Rich was a great guy and a great, loyal friend.  I met Rich when I was in the 4th grade and we had continual contact over the many years since that time.  Rich, in fact, was the best man at my wedding in May, 1995.  I will miss him greatly.

I am sorry to hear of Richards passing. Hew was a gentleman, and I am sorry I did not get a chance to know him better. He was extremely friendly and outgoing. Another one of our class mates is gone. May he rest in peace.

I echo Peter's comments - Rich was extremely friendly & outgoing. He had a natural warmness built into his personality. I can also appreciate long-time friendships, such as John described. Rich was that type of gent that would make that happen.

There were a couple of commonalities Rich & I shared. After Nicolet, we both went "Greek" and were TKE's - Rich @ Eau Claire, and myself @ UWM. I do recall the "Tornado Watch" events that the Eau Claire chapter sponsored during Rich's tennure, and perhaps there are a few of you that knew (or were involved with this annual ritual).

The second parallel was somber - both Rich & my father both battled Multiple Myeloma. It is a blood cancer that can be somewhat controlled (in the early stages), but becomes progressively difficult to contain. My father passed in 2003, after being diagnosed in the late 90's. But life doen't play fair. Why does that happen to wonderful human beings like Rich - - who, like us, still have a few years before #60. If there is anything "kinda-sorta" positive in this is that (at least) our esteemed '73 mate is no longer suffering ...
