Rick #3024, Butch #3043,
My resting place is going to be in my self made, yellow pine w/iron fasteners, casket/box 6' under out in the back yard. The wood, nails and I will be good for the earth. No embalming for me. I did a cadaver lab once and the results of the embalming process is way too unnatural and gross for me. Check with you local ordinances; burial restrictions vary. If your homestead isn't adequate, check out the more rural properties in you areas; one could purchace land, for a family gravesite, for much less than what a funeral would cost. With the saved $$$, have your family throw a big party in your honor or donate it to a good cause. The natural decomposition of our bodies aids in the fertilization of our land and we are depriving it. Not only are we stopping this natural process we are replacing it with the addition of toxic chemicals. Embalming fluids can contain up to 35% formaldehyde and 56% ethanol. The United States has over 22,500 cemeteries. And every year an estimated 827,060 gallons of embalming fluid consisting of chemicals like formaldehyde, methanol, ethanol, antibiotics, and other poisonous chemicals are used in the burial process. These toxic substances get into our soil and contaminate our local water supplies.
FYI, I'm not a blue, HRC supporting liberal. Though, I have been known to hug a tree or two every now and then and thank the almighty God for our fresh air and water. Rember the Crying Indian ...?
