I found a Sam Houston 1965 year book online that has been scanned in and has the entire book. I found the words to our Sam Song. Wish I could remember the music ~ I tried singing it but I don;t think I have the right tune for it. I also found my brother David Maxwell (jan.65 grad) in it.

                                                                      Black and Gold

Lyrics by Mrs. Louise C. Adams

Black and Gold,
We love your spirit on campus and the field.

Black and Gold,
Our hearts are proud, the tigers never yield.

Our men and women tried and true;
The courage that belongs to you.

Our colors of a radiant hue;
We Salute You Black and Gold.

Lead us on
That we may take each day in fearless stride.

Carry on,
In our hearts your memory will ever abide.

Be brave, be strong.
We’ll hold our own.

Sam Houston High
Our alma mater true.

Judy, back just a hand full of years ago, i spoke with an office worker there at the Sam Houston Campus, who told me she had several different years, Yearbooks.  She didn't have the year i wanted, but she quoted quite a few.   I'm thinking this was right at 10 years ago, maybe more, but i would call the main office and inquire.  :) Couldn't hurt.

Thanks Eugene ~ I found online as far back as 1927 (it was interesting to look through) and several more years up until 1960 then it went to 1963 - 65 - 66 - and so on. No 1964. I will have to see if my brother still has his from that year. He gradusted in Jan of 65.

Cassmates has several on line to look at and sell them for $99.95 ~ how much did they cost us when we were in school? I know my parents got us one each year. My sister Shirley and I were only year apart so she got hit double for a couple years there and with senior rings

Good thing my Dad worked hard!!

I hear ya Judy....   the only reason i brought up calling the high school, is that they would be in "new" status, no matter how many years had passed.  I have seen old year books copies on classmates dot com and yes, it is strange/fun to look through.  Found my aunt who grad in 1939 from the downtown Sam Houston High School.  Those hair do's, LOL  I didn't buy any yearbooks, while there.  Too poor and i would have never ask my dad.  About 10 plus years ago or so, i decided i would like a '72 book because i was starting to get friend requests on facebook, etc. and i couldn't put a face with the name. That is when i called the school, and the office worker took my number, and went in storage, and called back with the years that she did have.  .... As luck would have it, i got in touch with a friend from 4th grade!! who had an extra copy of the '72 book, and that i could have it if I promised to take her and her daughter lunch in NYC on an upcoming visit.  How lucky!, brand new condition 40 plus years old!!   Later, i bought a '71 yearbook off of classmates, and it's pretty good, but still not the real thing, and i guess i paid $99 for it.  Then not long ago, the '70 yearbook copy was offered for about $50.  I bought that one too, so now i have all three.   TMI??   LOL

Albert,

I'm still working on it. You may have known my brother ~ David Maxwell he was a January of 65 grad. He graduated and started business school and Uncle Sam took him and drafted him and off he went. Was given orders to go to Viet Nam and last minute by some miracle or the grace of God his orders were changed and he did he overseas time in Germany. Sure did make my Mom happy....I'm sure she was burning a hole in God's ear to get the orders changed, Oh well why ever it was changed we were glad, Thanks for your time over there!! Glad you made it back ok..

Judy,  I do remember David.  I am glad the prayers worked, Vietnam was not a vacation spot.  Not sure how I even made it back, Thanks to my Family I lived through it.  There were many close calls and could not wait to get home.  I even stayed longer to get an early release.  Leaving the Houston Airport was not pretty, I was so happy to be home, felt like a real American in my Army uniform, happy to have defended our Freedom, then i walk Outside to the protestors.  Spit, insulting words etc.

I am still proud of what I did for my Country and so happy to see how they treat our Military today.

Sorry, got carried away.  Look to get that year book.

Judy Maxwell (1971)

Albert,

So sorry to hear of your return trip and having to face that after all you had to go through!. I'm not sure why people thought it was all the soldiers fault ~ all you guys did was go over and do your best ~ When you have no choice in the matter you do what you have to do. I am PROUD of all the forces that went over and defended our counrty. Kinda like the protesters today against our police officers. They are putting their lives on the line to serve and protect us and people shoot and  throw stuff at them and disrespect them. It is a shame.

Glad to hear you remember my brother ~ he was on the track team for a while at Sam.

Mike

I will tell him hello for you. He is doing good ~ OUr mother is 94 and she lives with him in Humble. It makes it nice to know she is not at home alone since I no longer live in Houston.

Judy

Mornin' Albert....#3277...thank you for the cpompliment...just takes a little more "spacklin' compound every year.   LOL..It is such a good moring here...the last day of July and we woke up to 59°  (I get up about 5:30 AM)  It's on it's way up to about 83° today to.....still nice tho

Hope you can get your hands on a copy of the 1964 annual.  I didn't buy one my senior year...don't know why.   I have 62 and 63...don't know where the '62 one is right now...but it's here...I just used the 63 more when I got on Classmates...I remember names  but hard to know who is who nowadays without seeing an earlier picture of them.

Take care and be safe
