Westchester Alumni Association
Scholarship Fundraising Efforts
One of our most successful and rewarding programs has been the development and implementation of the Westchester Alumni Association Student Scholarship program which was established in 2005. One hundred percent (100%) of every dollar donated to the scholarship fund is directed for use as a scholarship for a Westchester student.
WAA strives to maintain and grow this effort. It takes donations from friends and alumni to continue to offer the scholarships each year. WAIS produces many outstanding graduates and with the spiraling cost of attending a university or college, the WAA hopes to increase the funding for the scholarships. Our goal is to award scholarships to 6 recipients for the Class of 2020.
Please make your tax deductible donation using the Scholarship Donation selection on the link shown:
A donation of any amount is greatly appreciated.
This fairly unprecedented program for a high school alumni association to embrace, is the only one of its kind in the Spring Branch School District, and the effort is totally supported by donations and fundraising activities of alumni membership and friends of Westchester. There are no administrative expenses for this effort and every dollar collected is earmarked for scholarships to Westchester Academy graduating seniors. The scholarship program is available on a competitive basis to current Senior Class members attending Westchester Academy for International Studies. Our organization issued its first scholarships to six graduating seniors from the WAIS Class of 2007.
The WAA issued scholarship checks of $1,000 directly to the college or university of six finalists on May 25, 2007, for a total of $6,000 in scholarships. We held our first annual Scholarship Donor Appreciation & Awards Dinner on April 9. 2007. Joining in the festivities were Dr. Pamela Butler, WAIS Principal, and Beverly Martin, WAIS Counselor. Five of the six Class of 2007 awardees were in the International Baccalaureate program at Westchester Academy.
Class of 1972 donated $5,000 from their reunion funds, Class of 1973 donated $4,000 from their reunion funds and the Class of 2008 donated $3,000 from their prom fund! Thank you Classes of 1972, 1973 and 2008!!
Our total scholarships awarded from 2007 to 2019 is $78,000! We awarded 6 scholarships each of the last 13 years.
The Westchester Alumni Association has helped 78 deserving current Westchester students in furthering their education by presenting them $1,000 scholarships with your donations! Thank you!
WAIS is one of only 70 high schools in Texas approved to offer the International Baccalaureate degree to students. Each of the student scholarship recipients are bright, talented and dedicated students which our community can be proud of. Full scholarships are extremely hard to come by and the cost of higher education has risen drastically over the years. A $1,000 scholarship does truly make a significant difference to these students and their parents especially during that first semester away from home.
The WAA is a 501(c)4 charitable organization, we hope that each of you can remember this fund when you are making your year-end charitable contributions, or at any other time of the year. Donations made through the Spring Branch Education Foundation website link are tax deductible. Remember, your contribution to the WAA Scholarship Fund will make a difference to these students as they strive to earn their place in the American and International workplace and society.
