I found the obit for Randy Leverick, who was my best friend in high school, and was a Class of '74 who died back in 1999 in a private airplane crash. I found an obit on him and his son Justin, in an online Albuquerque NM site. His parents and older brother Rick, who I think was Class of '71, all live(d) in and around Albuquerque. A sad mid air accident where a student pilot crashed into Randy's lane when Randy and Justin were landing. Pretty sad funeral for a father and 13 year old son.

Randy, beloved son, loved brother, cherished friend, treasured husband, and adored father was born March 15, 1956 in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended North Texas State on a full music scholarship and continued to entertain others with his love of music. Justin, dear, sweet and treasured son and grandson, nephew and cousin was born April 11, 1986 to Randy and Glenda Leverick in Dallas, Texas. He graduated 6th grade at Mckenzie Elementary on Thursday, May 27, 1999. Family of Randy and Justin include dearest wife and mother, Glenda Leverick, Alfred and Birdene Leverick, Bobby and Billie Lennox, Ric Leverick, Carol Watson, Jennifer Netherland, Alan Lennox, Doug Lennox and numerous family and friends. Services will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 1999 in RESTLAND MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Interment to follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 1, 1999 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m. at Restland Funeral Home
Many of you may remember Randy as one hell of a french horn player in the Westchester Band. He was also one hell of a guitarist and we were in our first band together. A Chicago type band with David Polstra. Mark Malliet, ? Smith, Doug or Dave (sorry) Mann, Greg Alexander, Robert(?) McGlassen and others from the Westchester band who's names I may forget right now but I still remember you guys. We sucked, especially with a band like Concord at Westchester, but we were young and having fun.
Randy went on to play in several other bands and if you Goggle his name you will find a fair amount of copyright listings for music he wrote with Azrock, his rock band in Dallas. He worked as a supervisor in an IT group at one of Ross Perot's companies in Dallas, or at least that is the best my memory provides me. Randy was married to a sweetheart named Glenda who's life was totally ripped away when both Randy and their awesome young son Justin were taken at the same time. I will never forget the call from Glenda's brother asking me to be a pallbearer for these two gents. What an honor. Lots of Justin's young classmates who attended the funeral had to grow up quick and at too early an age to experience, and understand, how fragile life is.
Just FYI, Justin was their $1/2 million son. He was born extremely premature and was in the hospital for almost a half year if my memory serves me, to the tune of about $500,000 in medical costs. Money never better spent as he was a bright, handsome, inquisitive, youngster with a huge heart. He has a little lisp and you can only guess how much we chuckled under our breath when he once asked my wife about her purse that he found near their couch. "Is this your purse?" and we were all rolling.
Lots of us at the funeral were musicians and there was a stack of guitar picks on Randy's coffin once the graveside service was over. I have not been able to track Glenda down in the last few years and we have lost touch. I can only hope that she has put a new life together for herself as she deserves it and so much more. Someday I hope our paths will cross again but I will understand if they don't and I'd never want my presence to bring back painful memories for her. She knew how close Randy and I were as he was the brother I never had. I think about her, Justin, and Randy often. He was one of the best of the Westchester Alumni if you ask me and I wish I could still go visit the Levericks in Mesquite as those were special times I will never forget.
I always wondered what happened to Randy, if he became a musician like he always said he was going to. We were friends, had a great time in our little band. The Harvey brothers and myself did give him a hard time occasionnaly, like on the Macy's trip when we sprayed deodorant in his french horn :)
Randy had a lot of talent, I always thought that out of our little group he was the one that might become a professional musician.
