Byron Wayne Small, 67, of Houston, Texas is now at peace after battling Parkinson’s for over 13 years. He passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones.
Byron is survived by his wife, Elaine, of 37 years; daughters Ginny (Small) Roelant, Michelle (Small) Gunning, Jamie Small and Nancy Small; 4 loving grandchildren Nathaniel Gunning, Emma Gunning, Renne Roelant and Tyler Gunning; siblings Carl Small, Nancy Sue Small, Michael Ursery and Mark Ursery and extended family. Byron was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend.
In early life, Byron was a skilled surfer, archer, gymnast and martial artist. Later in life, he enjoyed visiting the beach and the mountains with family, playing golf, watching baseball and movies, eating home-cooked meals and fishing with his grandchildren. He graduated from the University of Houston and worked in hotel management, insurance appraisal, and as a contractor in the Houston area for over 30 years. He retired in 2008 due to his health. He was devout in studying the Bible, participating in the church community, and sharing about God’s grace in his life. Byron went out of his way to help those in need and always went the extra mile.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Westland Baptist Church in Katy, Texas. A lunch reception will follow the service. Please bring your favorite side dish or dessert, and join the family in honoring Byron’s life and his love of a good meal shared with others.
