Robert L. Walsh, Jr. ("Bobby"), age 67, of Houston, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 2, 2021.

Bobby was born February 6, 1954, in Fullerton, California, to Robert and Rose Walsh. Bobby was the fifth of six children and was known for being the one and only blue-eyed Walsh baby.

Bobby graduated from Westchester High School in Houston, Texas, in 1972. He attended Southwest Texas State University before beginning his long career in the oil and gas industry. His children will always admire his ability, through hard work and dedication, to start his career as a young roughneck on drilling rigs and retire as a health and safety advisor for Chevron.

Bobby retired from Chevron in 2015 and became Grandpa full time. While Bobby’s kids were young, Bobby attended every practice, game, recital, and activity they were involved in as often as he could. The same was true of Bobby as a grandpa. His granddaughters, Caroline and Ava, were the joy of Bobby’s life. There was no distance too far for him to drive to be with his girls. He attended every birthday party, soccer game, and recital and made sure to be at his son’s house before the girls woke up every Christmas morning just so he could witness their joy and excitement for himself. The Saturday before his death, Bobby spent the entire day in the cold and rain to watch Caroline play in a soccer tournament. That’s the kind of dad and grandpa Bobby was. He lovingly and proudly gave his all for his kids and granddaughters – always with lollipops in hand.

The last four years of Bobby’s life would not have been possible without the heroic efforts of his longtime friend, Doug Shotwell, to save his life when he suffered a lower aorta rupture in December 2017. Doug saved Bobby’s life that day. Every memory we’ve made these past 4 years with Dad/Grandpa has been made with profound gratitude for Doug Shotwell. With all our hearts, Doug, thank you.

Life will never be the same without Bobby. Our hearts are broken but we do not cry without hope. We know our precious dad closed his eyes on this earth and opened them to the magnificence of Heaven in the presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We are comforted by the assurance that we will see Dad again, and we’ll spend every day missing him until we’re reunited.

Bobby was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Rose Walsh.

He is survived by his son, Robert L. Walsh, III, and daughter-in-law, Lori Walsh; daughter, Gina-Marissa Snelling and son-in-law, Edward Snelling; beloved granddaughters, Caroline and Ava Walsh; and five siblings: Patti (John) Gillies; Michael (Kathy) Walsh; David Walsh; Thomas (Elaine) Walsh; and Dennis (Reni) Walsh.

Bobby’s children invite all who knew and loved him to celebrate his life with them on December 9, 2021, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 p.m. and an on-site burial at 2:00 p.m. A catered reception for family and friends will be held on-site from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
