David Dave Figari, Jr.

Principal David "Dave" Figari, Jr.

February 16, 1939 – August 1, 2020

 David “Dave” Figari Jr.

Principal Dave Figari

David Figari Jr, better known as Dave, passed away at the age of 81 on August 1st, 2020 at home in The Woodlands, Texas.
Dave was born on Galveston Island on February 16th, 1939 to Dave Figari Sr and Theresa Junemann Figari who raised him to be a giant among men. Dave attended and played football at SMU and Sam Houston State University to become an educator. He was a teacher and coach, quickly becoming a principal and administrator. His devotion to his students and staff dictated every decision he made in his over 40 year career in the school business.
Dave loved hunting, fishing, golfing, and football, but there is nothing he loved more than his recliner and his family, especially his grandkids.
Dave, or the Big Fig as so many knew him, is survived by the love of his life, his precious wife of 58 years, Ruth Ann Scaperlanda Figari—who he went to the 8th grade carnival with and knew he was going to marry on the 3rd date. DAD is being remembered by his 4 children and their spouses. PAPA will be forever loved by his 14 grandchildren and 3, almost 4 greats! And BROTHER will be forever missed by his siblings "mate" and "sissy"
Due to social distancing efforts, there will be a private mass to honor Dave's life. We wish more than anything that all who have ever encountered him could be there to celebrate. Go to dignitymemorial.com to find the link to streamed services on Wednesday, August 5th
Please send donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to keep Dave's love for the kids flowing, and have a beer and some Blue Bell ice cream in fond remembrance.

Coach Figari was one of our freshman football coaches in 1966 at MSH. He was a great coach, teacher and principal. He taught us to never give up. "Try until you get it and move to the next phase but never give up." Rest in pease Coach.

Lucy Shaw   08/07/2020

Conway and I wish to offer our sincere sympathy for Dave, you and your family. Dave was a very special individual. He touched so many lives through his chosen field of education. We will miss him.

Dear Mr. Figari: On behalf of all of the Westchester Wildcats ('your kids'!) , we will always miss you, but fond memories will tide us through. We will be swapping fun anecdotes with memories of you for years to come! You were a friend and mentor and pillar of strength to all of us during tumultuous times. We will miss your kindness and seeing you at the reunions. I will be finally writing that tribute to you this fall (that you and I spoke of earlier this year), and I will be inputting comments and stories from many wildcats of all classes in your honor!! I'm glad I was able personally tell you that you are very loved, respected and an icon of us Wildcats! ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ On behalf of the Westchester Wildcats, Nancy Grace Smith WHS '78

Dave Figari made a mark in this world and had a positive effect on so many kids trying to become adults. He made a difference in so many lives. We all knew him to be a disciplinarian, but always with the students best interest in mind and underneath that big tough exterior was a kind man that earned respect. Thank you for sharing him with us Ruth Ann and for staying close to so many former students. All the Devine's have you and your family in our prayers.

PHILIP KLEIN   08/04/2020

He changed so many lives. May God be with you all. And when I am sent to the principles office in the sky - I know David will be there with his hands across his chest saying : "Come on in and sit down Mr. Klein." Blessings to all in his family and the Westchester High School family.

Terri Teeter Sprague  08/04/2020

We all have such fond memories of Mr. Fargari. I have a fun memory of going to Mr. Fagari's office to plead my case for having a freshman dance. He said there would be no freshman dance. I returned to his office on several occasions only to hear the same answer. After several trips to see him about this, he finally relented said we could have the dance but made it clear by telling me: Teeter, I don't want to see you in my office again! He just shook his head at me and smiled. He was a wonderful man. In later years it would bring a big smile to my face every time I had the pleasure of seeing him with his wife Ruth Ann at class reunions. I sure enjoyed those opportunities to reminisce a bit, catch up, and hug his neck. Mr. Fagari had an intimidating presence, a huge heart, and a great capacity for leading! He had a wonderful impact on so many young people who will always remember him fondly. You will be greatly missed! Until I see you again Mr. Figari, Terri Teeter Sprague❤

Michael Gerard Hogge  08/03/2020

Mr. Figari was our overall Principal @ Westchester Senior High School in Houston during the years I attended from 1970 until my graduation two years later. I remember him as a tough, strict, yet fair disciplinarian & leader who helped to instill some of those principles in me during my time there. I really enjoyed keeping in touch with him as mutual friends on Facebook & wish to extend my sincere condolences, sympathies & prayers to his wife RuthAnn & all of his family & friends. May God keep you all safe & may your loving memories of Mr. Figari sustain you @ this most difficult time. Westchester Senior High School - Class of 1972

Matt Pace  08/03/2020

Mr. Figari was a great guy. He was our Principal at Westchester High School and he helped steer us in the right direction. He always stayed in touch with us over the many decades and often came to our class reunions. Just a fine human being. RIP, Mr. Figari. Matt Pace (WHS class of ‘73).

Carol Gilley  08/03/2020

I taught at Westchester from 1976-1985, and I still view those years as the best in my 37-year teaching career. Dave Figari was strict, but he had your back when you needed him. I have always had good memories of "Mr. Figari", and I wish his family peace and comfort during this sad time. Please know that Dave was loved. Carol (Sussky) Gilley WHS class of 1968.

Meryl Grantham Crosbie  08/03/2020

Principal Figari was a true example of what a good teacher coach educator should be. He will be missed. I know my father would like to shake his hand when he meets him in heaven for keeping my sister and I in line. God bless the Figari family. Nancy McCloskey Moore   08/03/2020

When I was a school administrator, I often thought of Mr. Figari as a model. I graduated from Westchester in 76. He was strict, caring and showed respect to all. He was interested in his students. R.I. P. Mr. Figari. And may God's comforting arms wrap around his family and those he loved.

Mary Ann (Glass) Fordyce   08/03/2020

What a loss and you are so loved and missed! Dear Mr. Figari, Many thoughts and prayers for your family and friends at this time. What a great part you were to the Westchester Wildcats and our whole school. (1977 class) Your strength, leadership, and loyalty to the youth in 1977 helped us to become better people. Thank you for your service and you will always be beloved by many families for the dedication of your service over the years. Light and love to you forever and always.

Brook Boswell    08/03/2020

Mr Figari was a wonderful Principal when I graduated WHS in 78. During this time, he had some hard decisions but his policies were often fair and very clear. For example, I learned to be on time to class always because if you weren't you got a detention .. courtesy of Principal Figari. This has stuck with me well to this day and am rarely not on time.

Karen (Johnson) Hardin   08/03/2020

Mr. Figari was the best! He disciplined fairly and am sure enjoyed the antics of the Class of '76! The students of Westchester High School were fortunate to have a role model such as Dave Figari! My condolences to his family. It is never easy to lose a loved one, but know that there are many of his former students and teachers that will be keeping your family in their thoughts and prayers.

Cheryl (Glass) Charles   08/03/2020

Susan Overton Barre   08/03/2020

Mr Figari was one of a kind. He was a tough disciplinarian with a marshmallow, caring center. My family remembers him fondly. He even sent condolences when my father passed away. My parents were active in Wranglerette Booster Club. Mr. Figari will be missed. Praying for his family 🙏

Jerry Shannon   08/03/2020

Heaven has definitely gained another angel. I hope that Mr. Figari knew just how many lives he touched. Westchester would not have been the place it was without his influence.
