Mary Theresa "Terri" Kirkpatrick (Boswell Neece) - Class Of 1973

Mary Theresa "Terri" Kirkpatrick Boswell Neece

April 26, 1955 - October 13, 2024

Mary Theresa (Terri) Kirkpatrick Boswell Neece was born on April 26, 1955 in Denver, Colorado to parents Janet and Lowell Kirkpatrick, Sr. Terri’s father worked for Shell Oil Company and her family moved around the country quite often as she grew up due to requirements of her father’s job. Terri had 3 siblings - sister Patti Zimmerman (Mark), brother Lowell Kirkpatrick, Jr. (Beth) and sister Carri Kirkpatrick.

Terri attended several colleges including Texas Lutheran College, Concordia Teacher’s College and she received an Associate’s Degree from Concordia Lutheran College in Austin, Tx. Terri’s faith in Christ and her church life were very important to her throughout her lifetime. Music was one of her passions. She played the piano very well and often played for Sunday School classes both as a child and an adult. She took organ lessons while in college and also self-taught herself to play the guitar. She had a wonderful Soprano voice and sang in various church choirs throughout her life, including Christ the King.

She married her first husband, James Carey Boswell in 1976. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children, Michael Boswell, Kirk Boswell (Jaime) and Jennifer Watson (Jason). She loved her family deeply and was actively involved in all her children’s activities including Boy Scouts, baseball, football, soccer and swimming. Just as she had experienced as a child, the Boswell family moved around the country frequently as a result of Carey’s job changes which made putting down roots a challenge. Terri made their home a wonderful and joyous place wherever they happened to live. Tragically, Carey passed away from cancer in 2006.

In the different locations in which they lived, Terri worked as an office manager and secretary for a number of professional organizations. Her predominate career role was in the insurance industry, and she worked at various positions for a number of insurers particularly for the State Farm company. After Carey’s death, Terri got her agent’s license and formed her own independent insurance agency. During this time, her motto was she was an advocate and friend to her clients and not just a sales person.

Terri married her second husband, Bert Neece in 2011. It was the second marriage for Bert as well, since he had lost his first wife to cancer. Terri and Bert enjoyed their years together immensely. Their time together spanned the time frame of their final career years to retirement. They loved to travel and were able to make many trips all over the United States and to 15 foreign countries.

Throughout her life, Terri’s heart was one centered around compassion and giving to others. She was a founding Board member of Family Promise of Lake Houston, a local non-profit which assists homeless families. Through the years, at various churches (including Christ the King), she led VBS, taught Sunday School, Bible study and new member classes, lead the Stephen Ministry team, and helped establish the Celebrate Recovery program. She never tired of mentoring others through difficult times and using her smile and helping hands to brighten their day. And let it never be forgotten that Terri was a mighty big Houston Astros fan – through thick and thin!

Terri completed her tasks on earth and entered the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 13, 2024. For the last 5 years of her life, she fought bravely against the cancer that took her life. Her courage and grace during this time of trial was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Terri was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Carey.

She is survived by her husband Bert; her three children Michael, Kirk and Jennifer; her two step-children, Kevin and Brittany; her three siblings, Lowell, Patti and Carri; 10 glorious grandchildren; and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
