Aida Leonor Martinez (Roberts) - Class Of 1975

Aida Leonor Martinez Roberts

November 16, 1956 - October 26, 2021

Our dear Aida Roberts passed away suddenly and peacefully in her sleep October 26th after a wonderful life animated by family and friends. Fully present to those she was with, Aida made every room she entered brighter with her willingness to laugh and her ability to engage in authentic dialogue with others.

At home Aida enjoyed the Hallmark Channel and her dogs that loved to cuddle up with her on the couch. She enjoyed family beach vacations where she was a spirited and victorious opponent during long nights of playing dominoes together. She was most relaxed cruising on the high seas with family and friends. She had many fond memories of skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer in Beaver Creek. She was timely and funny in expressing her opinions which were often wrapped in her special spice that made her fun to be with. She enjoyed conversations with family and friends while sipping her favorite wine or her favorite drink, a dirty martini.

Aida was a great encouragement to her husband, Bill, and his cycling accomplishments that included the MS150 for 30+ years. Aida always adored her daughter, Sarah, and took great joy in her responsible and prudent life decisions. Aida was always eager to hear about others and their endeavors. She cherished time with her lifelong girlfriends whom she called “her girls.” As the eldest of all her cousins, Aida was the childhood trailblazer of her immediate and extended immigrant family that embraced life in this great country while also retaining a strong sense of their Cuban heritage.

Aida was not defined by her lifelong battle with diabetes and she never complained about her personal plight. In the face of obstacles, she remained courageously committed to a positive and optimistic worldview.

Aida was warm and welcoming, friendly and outgoing, positive and encouraging. She had a boisterous and infectious laugh that would fill a room with good cheer. She faithfully and joyfully fulfilled her vocation as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, cousin and friend. We are greatly consoled to know the Lord has welcomed her into Heaven and reunited her with her adoring and loving Papi.

She is preceded in death by her Papi, Waldo M. Martinez, M.D.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Roberts, and daughter, Sarah Roberts, her mother, Finita Martinez, her siblings Waldo, Maria and Pepe and their spouses Vicki, Mickey, and Catherine, as well as aunts and uncles, many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews who are too numerous to list but were all an integral and cherished part of her life.

The family requests donations be submitted to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, www.jdrf.org,
