Greg Sproston, beloved husband, father, son and friend, passed away at the age of 50 in his Farmington home, Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born Feb 7, 1957, in Houston, Texas to Kathleen and Ralph Sproston. Greg attended Westchester High School in Houston, and graduated from Texas A & M University. After completing his Master's of Architecture Degree from the University of Houston, he joined the planning department at Baylor (College of Medicine, and was involved in the initial design for the Children's Nutritional Research Center.

Greg continued his work for the Texas Medical Centers as a production architect with Bernard Johnson, Inc. He joined the M W Kellogg Company in 1988, and received many awards for his contributions. In 1995, he became a senior architect for Fluor Daniel, Inc, where he had the pleasure of designing a mosque in Kuwait. Other clients over the years included Hoffman-LaRoche, DuPont, Proctor and Gamble, Duke Energy, and The United State Postal Service.

In 2002 Greg founded his own firm, Insight Architecture, in Farmington. He was honored to work with the City of Farmington, Department of Parks and Recreation, San Juan Regional Medical Center, and the San Juan Country Club. He was most proud of the Lions Pool remodel, and the new Comet Cleaners on Sullivan Ave.

Prior to his illness, he was renovating the old Butler house on Hopi Street, and its completion stands as a testament of his commitment to the community. Although Greg was passionate about his work, he managed to find time for his many hobbies. If he wasn't in the garage, turbo-charging his lawn mower or building a new mini-bike from a discarded weed-eater, you could find him camping on Lake Navajo, hiking in Silverton, or building Lego skyscrapers with his daughter, Katie. During his illness, he was happy that they got to spend so much time together; Katie had already started sanding the frame for her first mini-bike. Laura and Katie plan to continue this project in honor of Greg, and have set aside the case of sienna-rose paint that he used to restore his 1960 Cadillac.

Greg had a special talent for friendships; his amiability brought together diverse groups of people. Whether it was a committee of business women agreeing on a color scheme or a team-trivia challenge at Sansone's Sports Bar, he was the spark of good will at the center.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Irwin Sproston, who is waiting in Heaven for her cherished boy.

Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Laura; their adored daughter, Katharine Louise; and his father, Ralph George Sproston, who set the standards of loyalty and devotion by which Greg always lived.

The family would like to express special thanks to Charlie Todd and the Rotary Club of San Juan, Rebecca Jasper, Tracy McFarland, Dr Victor Levin and Dr Amy Heimberger of MN Anderson Cancer Center, Dr R. Graham Smith, and the staff and administration of San Juan Regional Medical Center and Urgent Care.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Sunday, Sept 2, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E Ute St in Farmington. A memorial service will be at 10 am on Monday, Sept 3, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home. Directly after the service, the family will receive visitors in Greg's drafting studio, 615 N Butler Ave.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rotary Club of San Juan, PO Box 2105, Farmington, NM 87499
