David Winston Bertram

April 9, 1965 - July 10, 2013

After a courageous, decade long fight against cancer, David Winston Bertram, 48, finally won. He went home to his Heavenly Father Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Born on April 9, 1965 in Sydney, Australia to Robert Bertram and Victoria McMahan, David lived in Houston, Texas most of his life where he worked in finance for Shell Oil.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, LaRetta Bertram and his brave children, Peyton Danielle, Benjamin David, and Lucas Campbell Hammer; mother, Victoria McMahan and husband Robert Campbell; father, Robert Bertram and wife Marina; brothers, Michael and wife Barbara and Richard Bertram; step-brother, Robert McMahan; step-sister, Kelly McMahan; mother and father-in-laws, Barbara and LaRoy Hammer; brother-in-law, Dan Hammer and wife Kim; along with numerous other loving family members and countless friends.

He was happiest coaching his children’s various sports teams; hiking or just relaxing with his family by the beach.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14th at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway with a Vigil Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. A Catholic ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 15th at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc, Houston, Texas 77024. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Please join the family for a reception immediately following the interment.
