Obituary of Mark James Hamlin

Mark J. Hamlin, age 60, passed away on Tuesday, the 16th of April 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born the 14th of March 1953, Mark attended Westchester High School and South West Texas State University. He founded a highly successful Certified Public Accounting firm. His expertise in the areas of accounting and tax law, as well as financial planning, earned him an extremely loyal following. He was a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Valuation Analyst, Licensed Insurance Agent, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Houston Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, and a Registered Representative of HD Vest Financial Services. His clients, many of whom became his friends, will miss his expert guidance.

He gave generously of his time to the Houston Uptown chapter of the Exchange Club, most notably in the development of a charity golf tournament to benefit local charities such as the Palmer Drug Abuse program, the Escape Center, which works to prevent child abuse, and the Epilepsy Foundation.

As in business, Mark took a straightforward, honest approach to life, tinged with humor, qualities which never failed to draw people to him. While always a hard worker, he loved his downtime, especially vacationing in Florida and Arizona with his wife, Lisa. Their partnership was truly a perfect match.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Hamlin; his parents, James F. and Mae Hamlin; sisters, Mary Anne DeForke (Paul) and Laura Miller (Bruce); nephews Stephen DeForke (Lauran), Matthew DeForke (Sarah), and nieces, Sarah DeForke and Emily Miller; grandnephew, Michael DeForke; grandnieces, Sydney and Parker Vana; stepson, Douglas Corson (Serena) and their children Nathan, Logan and Jaden Corson; mother-in-law, Patricia Dozier; sister-in-law, Jana Dozier Sansbury (Tim) and their children Hallie and Will Sansbury; and brother-in-law, Scott Dozier and his children Jordan and Christopher Dozier.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock this afternoon until eight o'clock this evening Sunday, the 21st of April, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

A memorial service, in celebration of Mark's life, is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 22nd of April, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where Fr. Joe Moons, F. C.P, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.

Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
