Robert "Bo" Eugene Burns - Class Of 1976

Robert "Bo" Eugene Burns

June 23, 1958 - December 28, 2021

Robert (Bo) Eugene Burns, age 63, of Katy, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 28, 2021, after living a blessed and wonderful life.

Bo Burns was born on June 23, 1958 to Robert Eugene Burns, Sr. and Shirley Ann Schiel Burns in Houston, Texas.  He lived in the Spring Branch and Memorial area as a child. He graduated from Westchester High School in 1976 and attended Southwest Texas State in San Marcos.

He met his future wife, Jana Cathey, in 1981, at the wedding of Bo's lifelong best friend Scott and Jana's sister, Diane. They were living different lives and did not start dating until four years later. Bo was a confirmed bachelor until then. They were married in the Spring of 1991 and were together 30 happy years.  Bo was a good provider and a loving husband and father. They had one son together, Travis. Bo was also father to Doug, Julie and Shannon Cathey for over 30 years and they loved each other dearly.

He spent his life raising his family and working in a profession he loved, which was sales. After college, he started out selling car stereos and found his calling. Then he went to Southwest Honda to begin his career and was there for many years. Finally, he was blessed to begin working for Richard Sanders at Wild West Honda in Katy in 1994, where he found his professional home and work family. He loved his job, his customers and his co-workers.  Bo was a people person, whether it was a famous celebrity or a teen buying his first toy. Many of his customers became lifelong friends.

In his personal life, he liked the country, the beach and the lake. He grew up loving the Texas coast, boating and fishing at the family beach house in Port O'Connor.  He and Jana had a ranch at Pearl, where they spent many hours hunting, fishing and enjoying the peace, beauty and amazing Milky Ways of Coryell County.  His first love was Lake Travis. He started going to Lake Travis as a teenager, with his buddies, camping with a lawn chair, beer and a wet bike.  When he became a family man, he upgraded to tent, popup, travel trailer and finally in 2020, they bought land at Lake Travis where the plan was to build their retirement home, until real life got in the way. He adored jet skiing and camping on the lake, hanging out at Phil's place, playing horseshoes at Bob's place, playing with the grans at Harry's place on the water.

Bo was a great cook and was famous for his brisket and ribs. He loved having huge Thanksgiving and Christmas family gatherings each year, frying turkeys for all to enjoy. It was a good life, cut short too soon.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Bob and Shirley.

He is survived by his wife, Jana and their children, Doug Cathey (Mitzi) of Cedar Park, Julie Meyer (Donald) of Mound, Shannon Falli (Moe) of Orange County, California and Travis Burns (Gabby) of Katy; ten grandchildren, Slaton, Tully, Shane, Ty, Heaven, Ocean, Summer, Angel, Charli, Evie and one great grandson, Tuff Meyer.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel, in Katy, with Chaplain Daniel Schramm officiating.  Following the service, luncheon will be catered by Nomad BBQ and served at Bo and Jana's home at 3203 Eula Morgan Rd, Katy, Texas 77493.  All are invited to join in a celebration of Bo's life.

Honorary pallbearers are Donald Meyer, Moe Falli, Barry Brunelle, Bob Hughes, Dan Drom, Nick Cavalcanti, Harry Proctor and Scott Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family has designated that memorials be made to City of Katy Police Department, 5456 Franz Road, Katy, Texas 77493.
