Diane Elizabeth Brodie, 61, of Galveston, Texas, formerly of Kailua, Hawaii, earned her angle wings on January 18, 2018. Although Diane’s life was unexpectedly cut short, the numerous people who were influenced by Diane throughout her passion-fueled and love-filled life would undoubtedly say that for Diane, no adventure went without being seized, no door went unopened, and the knock of opportunity to serve and help others was always answered.

Diane was born in Kansas City, Mo on March 29, 1956. She grew up on the island of Oahu in Kailua, Hawaii, where she loved to surf and sail. During High School, the family moved to Houston, Texas where she graduated high school and attended college.  Diane went on to become an oil and gas accountant for several companies, including Pennzoil, Halliburton, Hilcorp, and ENI. During that time, she often enjoyed listening to music at Party on the Plaza in downtown Houston. She also enjoyed musicals at Theater Under the Stars.

Diane lived on her sailboat, a Pearson named "Ultimate", for 18 years at Portofino and Watergate marinas in Clear Lake Shores, Texas. She enjoyed sailing and racing in Clear Lake, Galveston Bay, and the Gulf of Mexico. She raced on many boats, but enjoyed being part of the crew of  "Premium" and "Illusion", a Skye 51, the most. She was part of the winning crew of multiple Harvest Moon Regattas, enjoyed races to Vera Cruz, Mexico, and cherished her memories of the race to Cuba. She was always ready with a sailing story to entertain her friends and family.

When it was time to live on land again, she bought a condo on the Seawall in Galveston. She and her manx cat, Maui, loved both the live-aboard and ocean-front lifestyles.

Diane cared deeply about helping people and volunteered with the Gabriel Project, a pro-life organization that helps young mothers in need. She opened her home to a young mother and her son for a couple years.  She also gave back to the community through her volunteer work with CERT.  Diane had a strong faith and was active in her church.  She would often point many to God. Diane was also a passionate patriot and served as a Galveston County Republican Party precinct chair for the last few years and served a term as the chairman of the Galveston County Tea Party. She could often be found vetting candidates or block walking.

Diane was proud of her Scottish heritage, complete with Brodie Castle in Scotland. She often attended Scottish activities in Houston, especially with her Dad, and was always on the lookout for the Brodie Plaid. Family and friends were most important to Diane. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, niece, aunt and friend. After her father passed, Diane lovingly looked after her Aunt Sheila and enjoyed their evening conversations and visits. Diane enjoyed spending time with her mother and sister in Northern, California and her brother and his family in Kansas City.  She was extremely devoted to her family and friends and was cherished by all who loved her.  There are no words to express how deeply Diane will be missed by her family and friends.  We take comfort in her eternal love and devotion. Diane has become our guardian angel, watching over us from the heavens and sailing her days away in the blessed waters.

Diane was preceded in death by her father Ed Brodie, step-mother Gaye Brodie, brother Doug Brodie, and step-father Eugene Taylor.

She is survived by her mother, Peggy Taylor, Aunt Patricia Malloy, Aunt Sheila Brodie, sister Trish Brodie, brother Bruce Brodie and his wife Kathy and their family, which includes nieces Beth and her husband and children, Jeannie and her husband and children, nephews David  and his wife and children, Jeff and his wife and children and youngest nephew Danny.

Memorial services were held 10 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Galveston, TX.  Afterwards, a Celebration of Diane’s life was held at her favorite Mexican restaurant, La Brisa, in League City.  Everyone is welcome to share stories and their favorite memories of our beloved Diane.

Please consider making a donation to the Gabriel Project or your favorite pro-life group. Money or baby items can be sent to Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 with a note that the gift is for the Gabriel Project in memory of Diane Brodie.
