My first 4 years following graduation were at Oregon State University (BS in Education) 1963-1967.
Married to first wife Donna 1967, son Toney born 1967.
During the Vietnam era, I went into the Navy (1967-1973) 13 weeks of OCS, 18 months of flight training and 3 years as a fleet pilot (Vietnam cruises on the Constellation and the Enterprise flying F-4Js) and 1.5 years as a basic jet flight instructor.
Worked as a survey crew member for a year: 1973-1974

Back to OSU as a post-bachelor 1974-1977 BS in Civil Engineering.
Back to LaGrande as a staff engineer working for '63 classmate Howard Perry at Anderson Perry & Associates 1977-1982.
Back to OSU for a Masters in Civil Engineering: 1982-1984. (end of my semi-professional student career.
Married my precious Linda Lou in 1982.
"Exile Period" to San Ramon, Dublin and Pleasanton California as Project Engineer for Geotechnical engineering firm Kleinfelder and Associates. 1984-1988.
Returned from exile to work for Oregon Department of Transportation as a geotechnical engineer (two years) and then 10 more years in a variety of positions at ODOT: design project manager, right-of-way engineering supervisor, project leader (design teams) and construction project manager. 1988-2000.
Quit ODOT to go to Brownsville Revival School of Ministry together with wife Linda. Pretty cool having 24-7 together! I carried her books. :-) 200-2001
Rehired at ODOT as a project leader. Moved to managing consultants and still at that currently! 2001-2013. Still very much enjoying the work.
Live in Albany, work in Salem (past 12 years). Drive and administer a private van pool. Total I-5 commuting for ODOT between Albany and Salem has exceeded 350,000 miles (counting first 12 years also).
Plan to retire on January 1, 2014. Will be seeking volunteer positions as a mentor of young people, possibly a tutor. Not in a rush to get started. :-)

An early happy birthday to you, my friend. Thoughts of you always bring a smile to me. I broke my hip back in February, so that invitation to hike together down into the Wenaha Canyon no longer applies. I am getting back to walking at a gentle 2 mph pace. And I found that I can still stand in a river and fly fish. So life is still good and I hope it is going very well for you also. We are still pre-octogenarian! In the senior community where I now live, I am definitely one of the “young ones.” And I hope on July 9 you will have a blessed and joyful day as you celebrate your birthday. I celebrate you today, and intend to also celebrate you on the ninth. :-)
