HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DIANE!...

Hope you have a very special day!... Blessings from Don & Liz...

BTW, Connie... I hated to see the Braves lose that tough series againsst the Dodgers, but they had a great year and did more than expected considering all the injuries and adversity they had to overcome.  We have a very young team and I'm very optimistic about the future...  Now the Falcons are a different story, and I don't know what is going on with them...  But the Dawgs are doing fine... GO DAWGS!...

Once again I have had a wonderful afternoon of talking and laughing with folks from the Class of '68!!  Just good folks.

We did miss those of you that didn't make it.

Those who came:  Delores Tucker Heinz, Ralph Huff, Don Chandler, Kathy Wheless Little (Danny), Nancy Tucker Griffiths, Judy Stewart Findley (Ed), Beverly Bramlett Burgess (Donnie), Gary Grice (Sherron), David Landers (Linda), Kay Wheless Smith (Mike), TommyAdkins (Pauline), Ray Wheless, Linda Wheless Young (Carl), Joy Turner Brudon, Connie Morgan White.     We enjoyed having Sonja Armor spend some time with us also.

We are sending a get well card from our class to Mrs. Myrtice Carey who's health has really declined.

Ray told us about going to the visitation for Mr. Pryor.   So glad that Mr. Pryor and Betty Jo Veal Pryor came to our 40th. reunion...   (as well as the others that came)

Love to all.

CHAIRS ----    a blue and a red folding chairs were left here yesterday.    They are out under a covered area.   The owner can pick them up anytime.

I heard from several that had a distance to travel yesterday that they got home safely.   That is always good to hear!

First of all, thank you for the happy birthday wishes. It was a quiet but beautiful day. I bought groceries, got a prescription filled, and then capped it off with a nice dinner out. The weather was so nice we asked for a table outside, knowing that winter will be here before we know it so we need to relish these nice days.

I have loved looking at the pictures from the get together! I could tell who everyone was, except for Delores. I had to call Connie and ask about her, but I'm sure I had not seen her since June of 1968, and she would not know me either. How great she could come. It would have been so good to see her, and of course, everyone else. It was also good to see Mrs. Armour. We wish we could have come. Dick left for Atlanta today for the week, but as close as the timing was, we just couldn't get there. I have a root canal tomorrow, and you know I didn't want to miss that! Sure hope we can get there next time.

Better go. Take care my friends. Oh, and Linda! I'm glad to hear you've had a fun trimester. Tell me, what's the secret to your youth? You look great!

GREETINGS, MATES!...

It was a real treat to get together with all of you again on Sunday.  And thanks again, Connie, for being such a wonderful hostess and making your home available to all your rowdy classmates.  I think the funniest line of the day came from Gary's boss, Sherron, who was looking at the class photos of all of us dressed in our caps and gowns and proclaimed, "WHERE ARE ALL THE BLACK PEOPLE?"...  I'm still laughing about that one...  :-)

Have a great week, my friends!...  see ya down the road...

Today I was beaten up by a woman…I was in the elevator when this busty lady got in. I was staring at her chest when she said, “Would you please press 1?”

So I did.

I don’t remember much afterwards….Recovery time 4 – 6 weeks.

Later.

.....Gary, you can't help yourself, can you? I guess it was just a coincidence that I was listening to a thing about Dolly Parton on TV when I read this. You are a mess.

I was following news reports of the OBAMACARE WEBSITE failure and it brought to mind a great quote from a great American humorist named Will Rogers who once said, "I am not a member of any organized political party.  I am a Democrat."...   :-)

Another favorite:

Sea Fever by John Masefield

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

I've enjoyed the posts on here...

Fall has arrived and it is a beautiful one in Georgia.    (although I personally prefer warm weather)    Flannel sheets and electric blanket put on the bed today.

I hope that each of you and your family are doing well...   I think of my "old" friends often and with love..

I think I've posted this before, but at the October gathering here someone left 2 folding chairs - one red and one blue.  If you know who that might have been, please call them, or call me and I'll call them.  They are sitting outside under a shelter and you can be pick up anytime.

Happy "hump day" all...

I just wanted to stop by on this Veteran's day to thank EACH of you who has served in the US Armed Forces.  Whatever your experiences have been, and wherever you had them, it was for your country. I had a conversation recently with a good friend up here who forgot for a moment that I was the wife of a military retiree. She made some casual comment about military folks not knowing the "real world", because of the benefits they receive. She was talking specifically about commissary privileges. Well! I gently reminded her that my son was deployed when his wife had their 3rd child, and she was caring for a newborn and 2 toddlers while he was serving the country. No, he wasn't drafted I told my friend, but because he went willingly, her son could stay home with his family.  She's a good and nice person, but even good, nice people get it wrong sometime and need to be reminded of some things. I mean after all, if anyone knows the "real world" it's someone who has witnessed death, been afraid they themselves could die at any moment, or has seen life in countries where there is NO freedom, it is a veteran. I hope no one resents a young military family being able to save 20 cents on a box of cereal. Class of '68 vets, thank you!

I wanted to sign in especially today to say how much I appreciate those from our OCHS, class of 1968  (and their families) who gave of their time and lives to serve in our military for our country.  I pray that ALL people will understand this and NEVER FORGET!!!    Thank you, thank you!   I know that I am able to be sitting here right now, in a warm home that I am blessed to call mine, able to type a note on a computer.. because of the countless number of people who have served / are serving to defend this country and freedoms we enjoy.  I just do not know adequate words to express the gratitude in my heart.

Thank you Diane and Connie for your messages of gratitude. It was my honor to serve my country and I thank you for that opportunity.  Diane, you are soooooo correct!  I frequently receive some comment about my "benefits", usually out of jealousy.  I take the opportunity to remind them that they could have chosen the same career path but elected to "stay home".  While they accumulated a nest egg and added value to their home, I was transferring every few years and lost money with every move.  When I retired,  I didn't have much of a nest egg - and still don't - but I do receive a good pension. I would like to thank all of the spouses of veterans for their "service".  Their sacrifices are immeasurable, and their service uncompensable.  Their share of any "benefits" were truly earned.  Thank you to all of our veterans and their spouses for your service to our county.  God Bless America!

Diane and Connie -

You're both the sweethearts you were back in '68! Thank you for remembering the veterans on Veteran's Day. And Gary, I understand your story, and am glad you have a pension. I wish it were larger! I live in a 'military town,' Army and Air Force, and when I see the younger soldiers working night shifts at the convenience stores in order to buy Chrismas for their kids, it pains me. I'm sure they are making more than the $92 a month I made back in the late 60s, but I'm also sure they are making barely enough to live on - especially with young families. They're certainly not being paid what their service is worth.

Yes, those who complain are the ones who missed the boat when it took off for the 'real world.'

God bless American and the rest of the human race as well.

Roy

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass
He  hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his  brass.

'Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal  with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My  Church have you been true?'

The soldier squared his shoulders  and said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who  carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most  Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've  been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I  never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I  worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too  steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times  I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept  unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the  people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their  fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be  so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't,  I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the  throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited  quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

'Step forward now,  you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully  on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in  Hell.'

Well, as we've all heard the reminders on tv and radio - tomorrow is the 50th. anniversary of the death of President John Kennedy....    Definitely one of life's events that people "remember what they were doing when they heard the news"...

I was at PE in the old gymn in Lexington...   (no doubt, some of you were too)...   Someone came to tell Coach Vickers.   I remember that he went outside to talk to someone, and when he came back in, tears were running down his face...

Diane Harris (Moore)

Yes, Connie! don't we all remember that day, and to think it has been 50 years ago....well, that just cannot be true! My memories of that day were being in Mr. Pryor's room and Mary Hawkins (I think it was her) put her head in the door and said the president had been shot. Afterwards, like you said, we rode on the bus to the old gym, and during PE Linda Wheless's sister, Georgeanne (who was secretary at the BOE office) came to the door and told us that the president was actually dead. I didn't recall about Coach Nix, so I'm glad you added that. Then I remember riding back to the school, and we were all so quiet on the bus. Eighth grade girls...quiet. Probably hasn't happened since. Then I will never forget as we we left to go home, I saw 2 senior boys (whose names I remember, but won't say) clapping and laughing about  our president being murdered. Anyway, it really was a day indelibly etched in all our memories. Dick said this morning that then was "Camelot", and now we have more like "Camel Lot".

Speaking of the old gym...Dick and I were also remembering those bus rides there for P.E. Can you believe we did that? Loaded up on the bus, rode to the old gym in Lexington, unloaded, changed into those awful uniforms, ran around a while, changed back into our school clothes,  got back on the bus, drove back to school got off the bus, and went to the next class. How long could we have had to exercize...15 minutes, maybe?

Ah, memories. Y'all have a nice weekend, and an especially happy  Thanksgiving.  Count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.  Someone should set that to music.

Love you, and you, and you, and....

The rememberance of President Kennedy's assassination reminds me how short and fragile life is.  I don't think I have anyone out to shoot me (now Jim Willis may have a different story since he made light of someone posting a picture of a turkey), but no one is guranteed tomorrow.  With that in mind, here's a little wisdom that I appreciate and seek to apply.

Dont wait until its too late
