Our quiet little website seems to be getting some activity, and I'm thrilled that it was JIMMY TILLER who has gotten it started! Jimmy, I can't tell you how happy I am to hear that you had a good 6 month check up! We were all so concerned about you. It goes to show that with modern medicine, prayers, God's intervention, and a positive attitude, great things are possible. You sure know how to make me homesick though, with your talk of jonquils blooming at home. Whenever I see one I think of happy days in Enterprise, when the crunch of gravel meant another car was pulling into Daddy's store, and every house around was occupied by someone I'd known all my life. I never see a jonquil that I don't get a little blue, because they framed a simple, but very happy life that I know will never be again.

Petition? Hmmm, I don't recall, but I will make a stab at it. Were you trying to get an early dismissal for us seniors or something? I can imagine something like that. After all, we had all worked soooo hard for twelve long years. I'll be eager to learn the answer!

I hope everyone has a happy Valentine's weekend. Whatever you do, who it does or does not involve, whether you are alone, or with lots of rowdy young'uns, remember how much each of you is cared about. I love my Class of '68 family!

Jimmy,

I am so delighted to hear about your good check up!  I thank God for modern technology & medicine and His healing hand in answers to prayer. Hope you got my birthday wishes. So glad to see some posting on the web page. Hope I haven't missed any birthdays this year, but if I have, I wish you a belated happy birthday. I mostly keep up with people through FB now.

I also do not recall anything about a petition, but I do recall how smart you were and the    challenges you made during our days of school atOCHS.                                                                  I wish all of you a Happy Valentines Day!

Hi everyone!  Sorry I made you a little homesick, Diane.(Actuually it was intentional as I have always missed you & Dick being here, as well as all of my classmates and schoolmates) and hope all of you move on back.

Except for service, I have lived here my entire life. I know I missed out on a lot, but just couldn't  call any other place home. ( as in where the heart is). As to my trivia question, no big thing now, but seemed awfully important back then. It involved something  we were  supposed to receive way before graduation, but were told they would be held until graduation due to previous year senior boys inappropriate use of them, especially on underclass men. I do remember that it worked, and impressed upon me the right of the people to address their grievances by petition to higher authority.

Jimmy, I gotta say....you are stressing MY BRAIN...that answer will give us a smile when someone figures it out OR YOU TELL US ....did I sign it ? lol.....I am really glad I checked out our website ....REALLY FUN TO REMEMBER OUR YOUNGER YEARS (-:

02/15/15 05:45 PM #3139

Jimmy Tiller

Yes, Judy you signed on the tp line right hand column. I signed first on left hand column, immediately followed by Charles Owens and jimmy willis( shows we were hanging out together that day  as usual, eh, Jim!) also I need to note this happened the day we officially became seniors, not 1968. It also involved the graduating class of 1967. It has 59 signatures, and the key word I am looking for is contained in one of my prIor posts. By the way how are you doing, Judy?

02/15/15 06:11 PM #3140

Judy Stewart (Findley)

Yes, that is exactly right about us hanging together (-: I AM GREAT and very glad to hea YOU ARE DOING WELL! I will go back to your previous posts and see if I can find that KEY word. I have been gone from our precious COUNTY since April of 1969.....just the way it happened. I love middle GA but always love COMING HOME...just never there long enough. Thanks for getting on the website and sparking an interest from all of us.

Diane Harris (Moore)

Jimmy, I logged on way too late tonight, and now your riddle is going to keep me awake! Judy is too smart, so she'll figure it out. One last guess from me, but it cannot be right....was it our class rings? It can't be, because we PAID for those. Besides I recall driving to the school on a Saturday morning in the summer of '67 to pick up my ring. It was the first time Daddy had let me drive our '65 Fairlane to school. Someone will probably tell me I am all wrong, and that I am confused with some other event, which wouldn't surprise me. Oh well, a fun memory whether it's imagined or real! smiley

In other news, I'm freezing. It's 4 degrees outside!

Goodnight, my friends.

02/16/15 08:02 AM #3142

Jimmy Tiller

Diane, you nailed it! The administration had decided we would have to wait until the end of the first week of school in fall 1967 to get our class rings to eliminate a tradition. On the first day of a new school year, the senior class boys would turn the ring over on the finger and rap the heads of underclass men. This was actually an affectionate(?) sign of imitation but was generally disruptive. I was the recipient of many such lumps, and looked forward to continuing the tradition! Btw, you missed being first by only a few hours as Junior Smith called me last evening withe correct answer. He did not remember signing either, but did remember driving to school to pick up his ring.  If I can learn how, I will post a copy of this petition for all to see. NEXT:  the class rebellion in 1966. I had enlisted 70 % of the class, but at the time of truth only Charles McGarity and I held fast and duly received a zero on that day.

Good Morninmg Mates,

Judy and a few others had questions about Medicare supplement Plans.

Most all the companys offer good supplement policys. I write thru BC/BS

mostly and they have been very good. They are pretty stable.

As far as what plan to choose. Over all I have found Plan F (which most

all companies will have) seems to give you more for your money.

Its just important to get what you can afford.

If you guys don't undwerstand something pick up the phone and call me.

I will help anyway I can. And if I don't know the answer to your question

I will know someone that we can ask.

Always,

Dang Jimmy,

I remember the "ring rebellion" now. And like you to this day

am effected by those lumps put on this ole head!

Now as far as this class rebellion. I am sure the reason I did

not held out was because I already had to many "O".

Always Jim

Delighted, I am, to see interest being stirred once again on our web site. Thanks for that Jimmy. I didn't remeber the ring petiton, but I do remember, very well, driving to school to pick up my ring. Did the 66 class rebellion have something to do with Mr. Gafford's class?

Hi cathy!  I may have told you earlier, but part of my memory in the hospital is foggy. Your daughter visited me in th VA hospital in Augusta, and I was astonished how much she looks like you. if i didn't before, let me tell you how uplifting that visit was! Please relay thanks to your daughter, I know this was not an illusion although I did apparently have some  regarding my former classmates. Re the little rebellion: although myself and many more had differences with rev. Gifford, he was not involved. It actually involved one of my favorite teachers who really surprised us. It was my impression that those who caved in received a failing grade anyway! Lest some of you think I have outstanding memory, I confess I came across this from a detailed entry I made every time something unusual happened. On that subject, sometimes I can remember occurrences from school better than I can from a few years back. I know what this is a sign of and it's not old age!

Jimmy Tiller

Danny, happy birthday! Thanks for signing the petition long ago. Of all of my classmates, my prognostication of our future lives missed yours by the widest mark, as I never thought you would sacrifice yourself to become a teacher! (And a good coach as well)

Good Morning Mates,

Glad most of us missed the mess last night. I do understand there

was some icing going on. But for the most part guess we missed

the real heavy stuff.

I have found it amazing how much we lose and how much of our memories

we retain. It's strange at times I remember every detail of an event happening

50 years ago. And then there are events, happenings that I have completely

blocked out. yet like Jimmy's partition memories flood back in.

Am I the only one this is happening to? These things seam strange.

Whoops! Guess I need a nap. Might be a good day to go to the woods and

find a big tree to lean on and sleep!

Wonder if that spot on Long Creek has been found?

Good morning all you guys & dolls,

Oh, the tangled webs of medicare & supplements we are facing! I want to say to you who are residents of Georgia, you have a much better insurance system than we here in the Carolina's do. About 12 -14 years ago, I was making some changes in my insurance & at the time my daughter lived in Ga. She even looked into what we could get if we lived in Ga., & we could get a much better policy than we could here. She even tried to get us to move back to Ga. at the time. Be thankful that you are a resident of Ga. The Carolina's are the insurance capitol of the US  (Columbia & Charlotte) & you would thnk we would get a break. Not so!! My sister who lives in Elberton is 73, & she does not have to pay a dime for her supplement & neither do some friends in Madison county. I don't know if it is the same way for all counties, but I would certainly look into it I I were a Ga. resident. I believe there are other states that have the same thing for their residents. We here in SC are not so blessed.

Medicare plans are different for everyone & it really gets tangled if you are a cancer patient, because of the great expense of cancer meds!! Rabun's GP & Oncologist told him not to get part D. We have done extensive research & found out why. Believe me, you do not want part D if you have cancer if you & are in a situation like Rabun. It is very complicated & a long story, but I would be glad to share it w/any of you if you want to learn more. You can inbox me & I will give you my phone number. There is no one answer that would apply to all persons.

It is really good to hear from several of you on here!!!  I love our high school memories, but sadly, my memory is also suffering.   Jimmy, you HAVE to come to our next class gathering and remind us of more of those OCHS days.    It is so fun to sit around and talk and "remember" and laugh.

Kathy - I have absolutely no idea about the Medicare supplements.   I want to see a chart comparing different companies and their coverages/costs.. but don't think such a thing exists.

Jim, did y'all get ice last night?   I understand much of Crawford (and the county) has been without electricity.  Mine was only off for a short time, but I do have some limbs down.   I had a pipe burst outside during the last cold, cold temps. and a mess with that.  I'm always thankful when my house escapes damage tho!

Take care my friends..   You are forever in my heart.

Connie Morgan (White)

Well, I'm excited...   I just got some understandable info. about Medicare and supplemental insuances.   (you can tell how "exciting" my life is when Medicare / insurance info. makes me happy wink).

A while back I was introduced to AMAC (Association of Mature American Citizens).   This is the more conservative counterpart to AARP.   Anyway, I spoke with someone from there who gave me some clear, more understandable info.!  I think I have a better grasp of what covers what and some options and costs.  The conversation definitely cleared some things up for me, and I know more about which direction I will be taking 3 months before my 65th. birthday..    Just sharing cause I know several of us have talked about and had questions about this since we are becoming "more mature"...

Jim Willis, I appreciate your offer on here to help!!   I kept thinking I would get down to Eatonton to talk to you, but just have not yet.

02/17/15 03:52 PM #3154

Diane Harris (Moore)

It's great to see a resurgence of conversation here, even if some of it is about Medicarefrown Ugh. Connie, I am glad you got some info that you found helpful. I have not heard of AMAC...Association for Mature American Citizens. Do they have AIAC.... Association for Immature American Citizens? That's where I'd refer some folks I know.

To the two Jims (Jimmy T. and Jimmy W.), I don't recall a rebellion or a petition, but I was both stupid and in love back then, not to mention blonde, so I had a triple handicap. I totally understand the memory thing, though. Dick tells me I have an excellent memory, and generally I do. But these exchanges make me realize I don't remember so well after all. Plus, when I get together with y'all, there are things y'all remember that I do not, and vice versa. I certainly remember Mr. Gafford though, and I remember lots of y'all didn't care for him, but I can't remember why not. I'm sure I knew back then, but not anymore. I always liked him. Maybe because he was good to me when I went to him one day, crying, and telling him that I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, since I had finally decided not to go to nursing school with Connie and Nancy. Very melodramatic teenage girl stuff. He was so kind and understanding. I also remember one of his class assignments was to read the 23rd Psalm out loud. We all went around the room, reading it, and putting emphasis on the phrasing as we interpreted it. I can hear me now, reading it. However, regarding Mr. Gafford, there is one story that Dick recalls well. Our class had gone to the University to see a play one night. The play ran long, and Dick had to take me home after the bus got back to the school. His mother didn't really know much about me at that time, and although she knew he was taking me home, she had expected him home earlier than he arrived. She waited and waited, and wondered if I might be leading her son astray, so she finally called Mr. Gafford, and asked what time the bus got back. He mistakenly told her that it got back a lot sooner than it really had. When Dick got home, he was interrogated! He told Mr. Gafford the next day what happened, and Mr. Gafford appologized. She soon got to know me better, and I fooled her into thinking her son was safe with me. HA!

Y'all have a great evening. Stay safe and warm. I hope we all thaw out soon. Much affection to all.
