It's great to see a resurgence of conversation here, even if some of it is about Medicare Ugh. Connie, I am glad you got some info that you found helpful. I have not heard of AMAC...Association for Mature American Citizens. Do they have AIAC.... Association for Immature American Citizens? That's where I'd refer some folks I know.
To the two Jims (Jimmy T. and Jimmy W.), I don't recall a rebellion or a petition, but I was both stupid and in love back then, not to mention blonde, so I had a triple handicap. I totally understand the memory thing, though. Dick tells me I have an excellent memory, and generally I do. But these exchanges make me realize I don't remember so well after all. Plus, when I get together with y'all, there are things y'all remember that I do not, and vice versa. I certainly remember Mr. Gafford though, and I remember lots of y'all didn't care for him, but I can't remember why not. I'm sure I knew back then, but not anymore. I always liked him. Maybe because he was good to me when I went to him one day, crying, and telling him that I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, since I had finally decided not to go to nursing school with Connie and Nancy. Very melodramatic teenage girl stuff. He was so kind and understanding. I also remember one of his class assignments was to read the 23rd Psalm out loud. We all went around the room, reading it, and putting emphasis on the phrasing as we interpreted it. I can hear me now, reading it. However, regarding Mr. Gafford, there is one story that Dick recalls well. Our class had gone to the University to see a play one night. The play ran long, and Dick had to take me home after the bus got back to the school. His mother didn't really know much about me at that time, and although she knew he was taking me home, she had expected him home earlier than he arrived. She waited and waited, and wondered if I might be leading her son astray, so she finally called Mr. Gafford, and asked what time the bus got back. He mistakenly told her that it got back a lot sooner than it really had. When Dick got home, he was interrogated! He told Mr. Gafford the next day what happened, and Mr. Gafford appologized. She soon got to know me better, and I fooled her into thinking her son was safe with me. HA!
Y'all have a great evening. Stay safe and warm. I hope we all thaw out soon. Much affection to all.
