Happy Birthday to two very sweet, brown eyed ladies...Joy and Nancy. I am barely making it under the wire, but I mean it none the less.
Nancy, our memories go back so far. I spent lots of nights at your house, and shared much laughter. We were just babies back then, but we thought we were so grown up. I hope your day has been special in every way.
Joy, we didn't have many classes together, but I always liked you. I have our class picture when we were in either first or second grade together, and your eyes were as huge and pretty then as they are now. When we moved back to Athens in 1984 I went to the mall one day and saw you on the escalator.mI was so happy to run into an old friend!! We had been far away since '72, and I was thrilled to see a familiar face. We stood and talked a while. You were one of my first happy surprises after we moved home for three years. I hope you have had a special day, too.
We are sad that we can't be at the get together Sunday. I really mean that. Nowhere am I more comfortable than sitting at Connie's and visiting with y'all. There is just something very special about being with people you've known since childhood. Shared memories, common experiences...a chance to just be with others you've known forever. We have been traveling lots lately to see our kids, and we will actually be coming through GA for only a couple of days later next week enroute to Fort Lauderdale, where Dick has a conference to attend. We weren't exactly sure what the schedule would be for a long time, but as much as we wish we could arrange it, we just can't leave here that many days early to be with you. I care nothing about going to FL, but Dick wants me to join him, so naturally I will go. It is usually the prettiest week of Fall here, and I am not crazy about trading the cool, crisp fall days I love for hot Florida. We will be driving a rental car down, and flying back. We have to do the craziest things sometimes. Y'all have a good time, remember all the funny stories, and we will keep trying to make it "next time". Pee Wee, I'm really sorry we will miss YOU, but I'm very glad you'll be there. God bless you all. You are all so dear to our hearts.
