Gary Grice

COMMITTED!! Diane, you have to remember, Jimmy lives in Eatonton, halfway to Milledgeville from me!! Just kidding. My father spent his last days at the Georgia Veteran's Home in Milledgeville so I travelled that road several times. It was a great place for him. His only regret was that he didn't go there sooner. He only got to enjoy it for less than a month before he passed away.
Jimmy, let not your heart be troubled! I haven't received an update from Ray since our last meeting, so there may be more classmates attending than are noted on this site. As far as why not to attend - I could allow my youthful indiscretions to hold me back but I hope that those that I may have offended have forgiven me and won't allow what someone may think to prevent them from showing up. Let by-gones be by-gones and move on! One thing that life has taught me, I've never been as bright as I thought I was. Life is too short. Sorry for getting heavy but I watched "The Bucket List" (twice) this weekend and it really made me think about a lot of things. I guess I've had a bucket list of my own and this reunion will allow me to scratch off a few more items. I'm looking forward to seeing EVERYONE and to quote that Pulitzer Prize winning publication, The Oglethorpe Echo, "a good time will be had by all!" Keep cool out there!

Gary, you are the second person who has recommended "The Bucket List" in the past few days. I don't know why, but I had not ever heard of it, probably because I haven't had a chance to have any true recreation in a very long time--one reason this site has been such a refreshing lift for me. Anyway, Dick's out of town this week, and by George, I think I'll rent "The Bucket List" and see what I think. If two people I admire liked it, then I should too. I'll let you know.

So glad to know others have signed up. Seriously, I know people have all kinds of reasons for not attending reunions. We missed a few in years gone past due to distance. This, along with health problems and time conflicts are valid reasons. I just hope those who can possibly come will decide to do so. There's not a single person who I would not love to see. I've roamed around a good bit these past 40 years, and met super folks who I call friends, but the ones who shared that spot of Georgia with me known as Oglethorpe County will always and forever be in the tenderest part of my heart. I mean that, and am getting all teary eyed at that truth.

Sigh. Thanks again for all of you who are working on planning our reunion. I'm so thankful to each of you.

Diane

Diane & Gary,

Ditto on "The Bucket List". Morgan Freeman is one of my favorites.

Connie Morgan (White)

o.k. guys - I don't get out much (except for work)...
Is the "Bucket List" a new movie, or can I rent it? You have definitely sparked my curiosity.

Dale, so good to read your update on the "classmate profile" and to see the great picture of you and your wife! Looking forward to seeing you.

Gary, can this site continue to be available even after the reunion? I don't want to lose touch with all of you folks. My years at OCHS were such important years in my life - and just filled with so many memories --- more good than bad!!!!

Connie, since I still haven't checked it out, I probably shouldn't be the one to answer, but not knowing what I'm talking about has never stopped me before. "The Bucket List" is a movie, I know that much. I think it's about two men (Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson) who make a list of things they want to do before they kick the bucket and set out to do them. Hence, the "bucket list". Others who have actually seen it can elaborate. I am developing my own bucket list, and near the top is coming to our reunion!

Connie & Diane - Please report back to the class after you have completed your homework assignment - seeing "The Bucket List". I am anxious to hear what you think. On the subject of movies, and Morgan Freeman, has anyone out there seen "Evan Almighty"? If you enjoy a good laugh with a message, check it out. Freeman does a good job playing a difficult role - God.

Looks like I created a stir with "The Bucket List". I downloaded it (Direttv OnDemand) so I'm sure it is available through rental outlets also. It was recommended to me by a (much youger) co-worker. We both enjoyed it but differed on "the message". Diane, you have the basics of the movie correct - without giving away too much. Plan on watching it at least twice to catch all of the little clues and good lines. Again, without giving away too much, they go to get tattoos and Jack ask Morgan if he wouldn't like a tattoo of a Confederate Flag. I didn't catch that line the first time through. Don, I really enjoyed "Evan Almighty" also. I think there is a lot to be gleaned about ourselves and life from both movies. "Evan Almighty" for a good laugh at yourself (guys) and "The Bucket List" a more serious glance. Connie, yes the site can remain up. There is no time limit, it just has to remain "in use". As I understand the rules, it will disappear if it remains stagnate too long - whatever that means. Connie, I don't get out much either. I don't "go to" movies. The last movie I went to was "Wild Hogs" for obvious reasons. Another good philosophy of life for guys movie.

I did some poking around this afternoon and it appears that the maintaining of an Alumni site is a common thing. It appears they are building the capability to have a single site from which all of the classes can be linked. One site spawned 51 additional class sites. If we maintain this site, I would suggest a little redesign after the reunion and possibly obtaining a domain name. Something to think about.

Since it appears that several of you may be movie buffs, I thought I would try to create a survey about your favorite movie. Click on "Best Movie - Ever" in the column on the left and fill out the survey! I'm anxious to see how this works.

Gary - After some thought, I am having a hard time coming up with only one "best movie ever." I enjoy different movies for different reasons and it is easier for me to come up with a list of my "Top Ten" best movies ever. I'll have to work on narrowing it down.

Have a great week!

Don

Okay, okay! How about My Favorite Movie(s)? I didn't mean to make it so difficult. Now I can go back and add some that were really GREAT! This will give me an opportunity to expand MY list. Enjoy!!

Jimmy Willis

You know Gary it is really hard to come up with one movie. Think about it, The "God Father series", "Star Wars", "Star Track series", "Home Alone" movies, "The Santa Clause Movies. There's just to many to come up with just one. And you know there seems to be something special about everyone of them that comes to mind.

Jimmy Willis

There is just one! "Gone With The Wind"!!!!!

07/28/08 03:01 PM #97

Gary Grice

Oh no - now we have a TREKIE in our midst!
Maybe this wasn't such a good survey question. Too many choices. Jimmy and Don have convinced me that this wasn't such a good idea. (Nobody mentioned the Indiana Jones series.)
So anybody got a good survey they would like to see posted? As you can see, it doesn't work as well with open ended responses. Works better with multiple choice or yes/no responses. Let me know what ya' got and I'll post it.
Hope everyone is having a good week! - even thought its just monday.

Here is the new survey question - Should this site continue after the reunion? This has been recommended by several classmates. So, what do you think? Register your response by completing the survey "Site Continued?" from the column to the left. Simple yes or no response.

A definite YES on continuing the website!!! Now what am I going to do with my top 10 movie list?

07/28/08 04:46 PM #100

Diane Harris (Moore)

Donald, since I am so far behind in my movie seeing, you can share your list of favorites with me. Because of the recommendations here I checked out "The Bucket List" last Friday, but STILL have not had a chance to see it. It had been so long since I last rented a movie, they couldn't even find my name in the data base at Blockbuster. I felt so insignificant!By the way, I'd love to see this site continued also. Gary, when do you plan to start charging us a maintenance fee for your services? I'll pay up to twenty-five cents per month.

Salutations,
Diane

Oh, I know I just posted a minute ago, but I just now found Kathy Carter Campbell's profile has pictures, and I loved seeing them! Kathy, you and your family are beautiful! Can't wait to see you in person! I'd better go back and see if I missed anyone else!

Connie Morgan (White)

I also rented "The Bucket List" last Friday, but unlike Diane, I watched it. Good movie!

YES to keeping the site going. Thanks Gary for all your work.

I'm like the others that had trouble narrowing the movies to one "best movie"..

Have a great week.

love,
Connie

Just a few on my movie list:

1. Lonesome Dove
2. Forrest Gump
3. Sleepless in Seatle
4. Almost anything with Tom Hanks (Big, Castaway, Bachelor Party ....)
5. Easy Rider

I really don't watch too many movies.

So far all responses are to retain the site (all four of us). I turned on the survey results so all can see. Twenty-five cents a month Diane? For something I enjoy!! How about some suggestions on how to make the site more fun so we could get more to drop in and enjoy the exchange and I'll consider all payments made. I enjoy the pictures too. I keep re-reading everyone's profile also to see if anything has changed. I hope I can get new pictures of everyone at the reunion to post here. Send along your ideas and I'll try to post them.

Gary…I wasn’t thinking in terms of made-for-TV movies, but “LONESOME DOVE” was a masterpiece indeed! Robert Duvall is another favorite of mine…a terrific character actor! I have the movie on DVD, along with “Return to Lonesome Dove” with Jon Voight (a great American). I have also seen in recent years the “prequels”…“Dead Man's Walk” and “Comanche Moon.”… And the sequel, “Streets of Laredo.” I enjoyed them all! Good choice!

Ok, Diane... since you asked... here are some of my movie favorites (I can’t decide which I like best so they’re in alphabetical order): Amazing Grace / Amistad / Braveheart / Chariots of Fire / Dr. Zhivago / Jeremiah Johnson / Little Big Man / Schindler’s List / The Lord of the Rings (Trilogy) / To Kill a Mockingbird. I love movies, especially those that inspire... and movies with great cinematography and music... and movies (with special effects) that leave me asking “how did they do that?” And by the way, Jim, even though they are not on my list, I enjoyed Gone With The Wind, The Godfather and Star Wars too. I’d love to hear what some of you other classmates out there like in movies.

Diane Harris (Moore)

It's quite late, and I'm heading to bed soon. Haven't been back long from a church event and then helped to clean up, but thought I'd check in. When Dick's gone I sit up way too late.

Donald, I've seen most of those movies, and liked them too. It's funny, but I loved Dr. Zhivago when I saw it when it first came out, but I saw it on TV a couple of years ago and thought it was the most depressing movie I'd ever seen. Excellent movie, but a real downer! I think I romanticized movies when I was really young, 'cause, well, I was really, really young. Same thing with "The Graduate". I loved the Simon and Garfunkel music, but when I saw it again a few years ago I found lots of the scenes offensive, and couldn't believe I wouldn't have thought so in the first place.

Hope all of you are having sweet dreams.
