Thanks for the birthday wishes from everyone. I can hardly believe that we are all turning 60, just doesn't seem like it.

Yes Don we really do need that prayer , not just now, but every day of our lives. Try it and see what a difference it can make in you r life.

And yes, I celebrate all week long, especially since it's the 60. Rabun and I are going out to lunch Thursday and to see a movie in celebration of my special day. He had dental work today so we just took it easy today.

Hope everyone had a happy St. Pat day.

We received our 2010 U. S. Census form in yesterday’s mail. I guess we will have to comply with their request to fill it out or face a severe fine. “Big Brother” needs all the information they can get on me, especially since I write nasty letters to Congress and have the nerve to ask them to actually do the right thing.

Liz has not had the best of weeks. On Monday, she had an appointment to see her orthopedic specialist to have fluid drained off her right knee for the umpteenth time. She was informed that she will have to have surgery later in the year. :-( She wants to put it off at least until after we can have some kind of vacation this summer or fall. Diane… I know that you are all too familiar with knee surgery. And tomorrow I will accompany Liz for her early morning colonoscopy at Windy Hill Hospital. For those of you who have never had a colonoscopy, I encourage you to do so… it is something you should put on your “To Do List”. I had one three or four years ago, and for those of you who have also had one, you know that the preparation that is required the day before is much worse than the procedure itself. So today, Liz’s diet is limited to jello, chicken broth, apple juice and other liquid refreshments. And when I have dinner tonight, she has assured me that she will sit and watch me eat every bite and look like a poor little sad-eyed hungry puppy dog. And then she will have to take a prescription ‘Moviprep’ solution this evening. :-( And for you who may not be familiar with it, I will just say this… it is NOT preparation for going to see a movie.

I will send along my best wishes to Dick a little early for a HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow... the big Six-Oh! Sounds like you have a wonderful celebration planned with family and friends here in Georgia. I would suggest having some cake and ice cream and cookies with all the calories included. Somebody’s gotta do it. Have a blessed day!

Looks like some great weather coming tomorrow… for having a colonoscopy, or whatever you may have planned. Enjoy it!

Happy Birthday Dick!!! You are now and offical Old Fart!! (I can say that cause I've got a few weeks to go.) Getting older is strange. For instance, when are you old enough to not feel guilty when you park close to the front door of a store? Just wondering.
We lost another memorable character of our youth today, Fess Parker. Earlier this week, Peter Graves, Merlin Olsen and Willie Davis. I remember watching them all.

Born'd on a mountain top in Tennessee,
Greenest state in the land of the free,
Raised in woods so's he knew every tree,
Killed him a b'ar when he was only three.

(I hope that's correct. I did it from memory.)

Later.

I know this is Dick’s birthday, and I hesitate to bring this up… but I guess today is as good a time as any to let you know that he is a SEXAGENARIAN! Yes, I know that many of you are surprised… maybe shocked, to hear such a thing about our own Class President. I can hardly believe it myself. But many of you can sympathize I’m sure since there are other sexagenarians in the Class of ’68. It is a fact, and… no, I’m not one. But there are some I’m sure that would prefer to keep it a secret and I guess I can’t blame them. I won’t name names. I’ll share just a few facts for those who may not be familiar with the condition. It really can’t be treated, and I understand that most sexagenarians will remain so for ten years!... if they don’t die first. It really is sad. But Dick does have plenty of company. Many famous Americans are sexagenarians. With some it is obvious and with others it is difficult to tell. Bill Clinton is one (who knew?). And some folks think that Tiger Woods is one, but he is not. And those that have to live with sexagenarians may have a difficult time, especially if they’ve never lived with one before. I am sure that Diane will really have to adjust, and she should certainly be in our prayers. I really think she was expecting it. The fact of the matter is that there is a good chance she will be a sexagenarian herself. I know it’s tragic! I confess that I too live with a sexagenarian. Please don’t tell anyone! It is hard to imagine, but the plain truth is that many of the rest of us in the Class of ’68 will become sexagenarians ourselves, even before this year is out. That’s life, folks. Deal with it.

Hi everyone. Hope each of you have had a good Friday.

I saw Don's comments about our age. I want to share with you 10 good things about getting older.

10. It gives you the perfect excuse to forget things.
9. You know lots of good stories to tell.
8. Each story can be told many times, whether anyone
wants to hear it or not.
7. The view is better once you are over the hill.
6. You can amaze your friends with obscure facts
preceded by "I remember when..."
5. You can take bets on which part of your body will
conk out next.
4. Your kids finally grow up and move out (if you're
lucky).
3. Nodding off at inappropriate times is considered
quaint rather than rude.
2. Creative use of a hearing aid allows you to hear
only what you really want to.
1. Every birthday you have gives people another chance
to make a big fuss over you and say things like,
"how great you look!" (for an old person.)

By the way, where are you Inez, Judy, Gail, Kay, Ray, Pee Wee? Where have you all gone????

Have a great week end everyone.

Happy Spring, friends!

I don't know where to start. So many humorous entries that make me smile, but Don, your letter in the user forum was a serious counterpoint. So very good. I love to laugh, and know that laughter is a gift from God, but we do need to take national matters seriously. I'm thankful that when all is said and done, "this world is not my home, I'm just passing through" aren't just lyrics from an old hymn, but true words to remember each day.

We're back from Georgia as of yesterday. It was warm and springlike when we returned, but has grown cloudy and chilly this afternoon. We had a good visit, but it's never long enough to see everyone we would like. One of these days.

No news here, just saying "hi". Better see what my sextegenarian (sp?) is up to. Will report more when there's more to report.

Dick Moore

Don, all I can say about being a sexagenarian is that I've never been convicted. The fact is that like Kathy, it seemed that the party went on for days. Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. For those of you teatering on the brink of 60, passing to the other side isn't as bad as it may seem. I've discovered the joys of senior discounts.

Gary your posts continue to crack me up as they have over the last couple of years. I've discovered that we seem to find the same lines to be funny.

I share some of the expressed concerns about the direction of our country. I'm concerned about apparent lack of understanding about what it takes to boost the economy. After having intimate contact with both public and private sector organizations, I can't seen how having the government run anything can be good for the country. There is a level of built-in inefficiency and lack of incentives to improve.

Here's wishing the best to all!

Salutations Comrads! Use caution in what you post on this and all other sites. Big Brother is watching.
We have fallen to what I feel was to be in inevitable. Fiscal responsibility has been trashed. I am shocked at how many totally ignored this when every analayst and every other country was waving a red flag. PLEASE, PLEASE get a copy of AFTERSHOCK and read it.
We had a church retreat (on site) this weekend. The Lord blessed us with great weather, great testimonies and high spirits. It was a GOOD thing.
Dick, I'm glad to see you are enjoying the jokes and that Diane finally dug you up out of the snow bank. You do know she was under investigation for your non-appearance. Have you checked and updated your will lately?
Connie, I haven't forgotten the email. Just been busier than a one legged man at a butt kicking contest. We were pretty involved in the retreat and today Sherron is headed to Loganville to baby sit. Our oldest daughter, who is expecting her third child in September may have to have gall bladder surgery. She'll find out today. We already had a busy week planned. Tuesday evening we have a date for the Navy Band at the Classic Center, Thursday to Gainesville for my infusion and Friday evening to see Sherron's old frame, Hank Parker. She used to have to watch him every Sunday afternoon. For any that may be scratching you head, he had one of those fishing shows and now gives talks at churches around the country. A real fisher of men.
I guess I should go play like I'm working so I don't have to back up to the pay table. I hope you all have a BLESSED week. Later.

Good Morning, Folks. It's SNOWING in Marietta. Welcome to Spring!

03/22/10 10:14 AM #1421

Gary Grice

HA!! I understand that Bill Clinton said Spring arrived and Al Gore stated that was evidence of Global Warming.
Don, I've got to post my picture of me in a snow suit - in Valdosta. Again, further proof of Global Warming. We used to have to wear heavy winter gear in South Georgia!! or maybe it was because we didn't insulate and the houses were built up off the ground. You know, we didn't use to have air conditioners in our houses or cars either! Maybe he's on to something!!! Later.

I’m sure that many of you are as surprised as I am that my 32 letters to Congress against the Health Care Bill DID NOT influence our Representatives as much as Comrade Obama’s bribes, threats, arm-twisting, back room deals, executive orders, kick-backs, empty promises, shameless begging, and just plain lies. Of the 32 Congressmen I wrote (31 Democrats and my own Republican Representative Tom Price), EVERY single Democrat voted FOR the socialist legislation… all 31. Congressman Price of course voted against it. I suppose I am now on ObaMAO’s “Big Brother” list. Was it all worth my time and effort? What’da ya think?

Diane Harris (Moore)

Gary, I just saw your email about the Spring get-together proposals. They all sound great. It's always fun, comfortable and welcoming at Connie's house, and it suits us just fine at your home, too. I know you and Sherron would throw out the welcome mat. And, yes, it's still fine to come down to our place too on the afternoon of May 23rd. Now, our place is definitely the smallest, 'cause it's just a small place we have in a rental program. We'd probably need to meet at the Pavilion nearby, which has restrooms and is comfortable, but I need to make sure it's available. I'm not trying to get out of the invite, really, but there are some obstacles in case we have more than a few who come, and we sure hope to have as many as can come. If you'd like to come down, I just need to know before hand so I can reserve the pavilion, and let the folks at the gate know you are expected. All that may be more than you care to do, so to have it at Connie's or Gary's another time is super great, too. My feelings aren't hurt one way or the other, and that's the truth. Anyone is always welcome to come see us down when we are down at the lake, although we didn't even get there this last trip down. We stayed at my sister's. But for a larger group, I need to make a few arrangements that I am glad to do.

That was far too long. Bottom line--y'all get together anytime, anyplace that's most convenient for the most folks. If we can get there, we will. The place is not that important, it's the old friends.

Now, talk amongst yourselves. Love to each.

Understand Diane - maybe I should rephase that since I'm not sure I really understand Diane but I understand, Diane. Is that clear? Anywho, time for a little funny and an appropriate truth. Later.

*******
An Irishman was walking home late at night and sees a woman lurking in the shadows.
’Twenty dollars,” she whispers.
Paddy had never had a hooker before, but decides what the hell, it’s only twenty bucks. So they hide in the bushes.
They’re going at it for a couple of minutes when, all of a sudden, a light flashes on them. It’s a police officer.
’What’s going on here, people?’ asks the officer. ‘I’m making love to me wife,’ the Irishman answers sounding annoyed.
’Oh, I’m so sorry,’ says the cop, ‘I didn’t know.’
’Well, needer did I,’ says Paddy, ’til ya shoined dat bloody light in her face!!!

Wow, that beautiful day Saturday sure gave way to winter weather again!

I apologize ahead of time for this “sports report” but I need a bit of a break from politics.

Jim… that seafood sounds great! And… I am really looking forward to Opening Day for the Braves! If the pitching can be anywhere close to what it was last year, and we can get the hitters going, we should be in great shape and compete with the Phillies. How about these spring training hitting stats thus far… McCann (.478), Glaus (.444), Chipper (.391), Rookie Jason Heyward (.387), Escobar (.355), Prado (.355)… all hitting over .350! I know it’s pre-season, but… Lookin’ good!

Now about those Bulldog Hoopsters… you’re right, the Lady Dogs have always been good, but not the guys. But I’m optimistic with this new coach Mark Fox. I like him a lot. He really did a good job in his first year. I saw bits and pieces of a few of their games, and there were times when they looked like they could beat anyone. They came very close to beating Kentucky in Lexington! And they did beat Tennessee and Georgia Tech… very good teams. Most of the games they lost were very, very close… down to the last few seconds. I really think better days are ahead for Georgia Bulldog Men's Basketball.

By the way Jim… do you have one of those new Tiger Woods Collector Golf Ball Sets? I’m not making this up. They feature a dozen balls, each with a different full color picture of one of Tiger’s mistresses on it. It’s called the “TAIL OF THE TIGER” collection… with a slogan that says, “He likes to play a round with them… now you can too!” :-) You really should have a set, Jim.

Well that’s the Sports Report for tonight. Reporting live from Marietta… this is Don.

NEXT YEAR. IT'S HARD TO REMEMBER WHEN COX WASN'T IN
THE DUGOUT!

ENJOY THIS GREAT DAY WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH.

AFTER-A-WHILE

Yes Jim, I could stand a good belt of the tonic as well. I think I've come down with a severe case of spring fever! Went out walking a lunch and almost didn't make it back to the office. Just wanted to keep walking (away)!
Don, since you brought up Tiger, you know he is still mum about what actually happened last November with Elim. I heard that he got into his vehicle and she asked where he was going. Tiger replied, "I've got some running around to do" and that's when she hit him. Should have chosen his words a little better I guess.
I've only had a few replies to the get together email. Most are okay with any and all of the options. We'll keep monitoring the situation and start making plans soon.
Hope you all have a bright sun shiny day. Later.

HAVE TO THIS POINT BEEN UNANSWERED!

I FULLY UNDERSTAND NOW AND CAN GET A GOOD NITES SLEEP.
GOOD NITE-SLEEP TIGHT! (I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED? DOES THAT
MEAN IT'S OK TO HAVE A FEW? YOU KNOW GET TIGHT-TIPSEY-

Well here is the latest gossip! What eligible classmate was seen talking for an extended time to a handsome Navy Commander last evening at the Navy Band Concert at the Classic Center? Not that there's anything wrong with that. She doesn't post here but says she checks in frequently. If she would like to rebut or clarify this story, the floor is hers! I'm just saying...... GREAT concert too!!!
The scenery around the Classic City has certainly blossomed over the last several days. The shorts are getting shorter and the legs are getting longer as the spring mating ritual, disguised as jogging along Lumpkin, Baxter and Milledge, is in full swing!! (No pun intended.) Although this old bull, aah steer, is well passed his prime and can't participate in the ritual, it does an old heart good to observe this annual event. Soon, the young, virile, hairy-legged participants will emerge with beer in hand, assuming an nonchalant posture along the "jogging" trail as they watch the parade of participants, attempting to catch the eye of the other. Yes indeed gentlemen - some really gorgeous scenery around here these days!!!
Now your thought for the day (or something just to make you mad). "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that ALL men are created equal ....", unless you grease the right politician's palm and then you are some how ENTITLED to special treatment and priviledges. We truly DO HAVE the best politicians money can buy.
So Jim, how DO you money grubbing insurance guys (our President's words) like this CHANGE?
Later.
