Hi Everyone-

My father - Philip Cobey - was an English teacher at Paris American High School back in the day. I have a yearbook that belongs to Christine Armstrong who attend PAHS - class of 1966.  If you have any info on how I might find her, or a relative, I would love to return the yearbook to her.  Thanks in advance.

Bettina (Cobey) Kennedy

Hi Bettina,

I graduated class of 1958, so your dad was not on the faculty then.  I had several favorite teachers at PAHS:  Miss Weinhoff and Mr Hull, both English and Mr. Harvey, history.  Very lucky to have had them.  I visited the school site in San Cloud in the Summer of 2014 with my wife and daughter.  It is now the American School in Paris, but the campus was closed fro the summer, so we just stopped and looked.  Pretty much as I remembered it.

Billie Slayden (Gnodde) (1961)

Hello Sethanne (and anyone else who cares to read this),

I am awful at this social media stuff, so if this works and I can get it sent, it will be a minor miracle. You posted a message in 2024 and I've been meaning to respond to it ever since. My name is Billie (Slayden) Gnodde and I also graduated from PAHS in 1961 and lived in PB. I attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and earned my BA and Ma in French Language and Literature. I also spent a fabulous year in Paris (65-66) studying at the Sorbonne. What caught my eye (beside the point that you are obviously brilliant!) was your mention of the US Naval Observatory. My father (a Navy Captain) had his last assignment there as Superintendant in 1961, which was my freshman year at G.W. We, of course, lived on the premises. Small world! After that I married my sweetheart from G.W., had a boy (lost to suicide at the age of 23) and a daughter who has blessed us with two lovely granddaughters. We have been living in Chicago since 1984. Before that were 5 years in Baltimore and 2 in London. I have taught French all my life. I fell in love immediately with Paris and in those days "la France profonde", and am still mightily smitten. We have been fortunate to return many times, as well as travel to many other countries. We are too old to travel much now, but our last trip was last year to Holland (my husband is 1/2 Dutch) and Paris, the Queen of all Cities! Where do you live in Maryland? AND, Dick Ely... how are you? Loved seeing your picture with your wife. I miss hearing from you. Cheers and best wishes to all of you reading this,  Billie

Mike Greene (1961)

Billie Slayden (Gnodde):  First of all, I'm still maddly in love with you.  I don't know who this Gnodde guy is, but he is a very lucky man.  I was sure you were going to end up with the football player (Foxworthy?) who took you to our junior prom at the George Cinq.  I was very lucky to spend a few days with you and your mother (and cousin?) at the Navel Observatory the summer of 1961.  To this day, I tell people that I stayed at the house next door to the Vice President's mansion (No one seems to be impressed).  My wife and I traveled quite a bit up until the last few years (when I decided to become a writer) but we only went back to France once.  P. B. was just not the same without you in it.  I was thrilled to see your message.  I hope life is treating you well. A bientot!

Berlin - August 2025

A bit different from PAHS Young Life trip Nov/THGVG  in  1962 ...

[No recent Cuban Missile crisis and DeGaulle in charge of France after finally defeating OAS and letting the Algiecs go and a year to go for JFK killing.]

Was it Shane Anderson or Tim Corcoran who hit a VoPo who had a PPSH 41 SMG in a partly cinder blocked window right in the face with slush/ice ball?

Am in a Hilton Hotel about 6 blocks from Check Point Charlie. This area was still WW II rubble and East Berlin. . Crowds here are not what Hitler,   Goebels, Stalin, Bresnev, or Ulbright might have remotely wanted or expected. Not all  Nordic/Aryans. Lots of Black hair and  not fair skinned. The  Gen Z  Berlin women are as tall or taller than I am

Huge rebuilding everywhere. Expensive restaurants.  Maybe, just maybe there is cash enough to protect themselves and arm the folks in some fight.

Sethanne Howard (1961)

Hi Billie and others.  They are right, all the guys were in love with you.  I remember you well,  I am delighted to hear about the USNO connection.   There cannot be many of us.  I was there from 2000 to 2004.  It was during 9/11 which was a really stressful event.  USNO was a secondary target.    Afterward the atmopshere at USNO changed a lot.  No more public tours.  The secret service took charge of security.  Access got strict.  But on the happy side, the Navy can put on a fantastic millenium party at the place where time starts for DoD.  They actually dropped the original time ball.  The time ball in NYC counts down backward from the original.   Currently the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Scientific Director are all aomen - the first ever to hold those positions.   You asked where in Maryland I iive.  I live in Columbia halfway between Baltimore and DC.  Over 40 PAHS grads live in Maryland.  I would love to meet some.  Have we ever had "local" reunions?

After retirement my avocation is the history of women in science,  My web site is hosted at the Univ, of Alabama http://www.4kyws.ua.edu  http://www.4kyws.ua.edu  the book is on Amazon called "the Hidden Giants".  But I still keep doing astronomy.  How are you doung?

Michael Coe (Coe) (1962)

Most of our reunions, starting in 1983, were held in the Washington, DC area.  Most of the local PAHS grads didn't attend,  so we began to move to Orlando, San Diego, and San Antonio to accomodate others.  Mickey Coe '62

Very early reunions were held in DC at a hotel on upper Connecticut Ave. in 67(?)  and '68 at Christmas break.  The cost of the bedroon, no meeting room, was $50 and we all chipped in.  Needless to say, it was crowded!  And a few spent the night there.  I was at Georgetown U and so went home.  Drinking age then was 18 and somehow the word got out about the party without cell phones, facebook, etc.  67w did we do it?  Any thoughts on another one?

Michael Moody (1966)

I only went to on reunion.  It was near Orlando and too near Disneyland.   It was held in a convention hall  with many of the folks there being of the older set.  I don't remember seeing anyone that I  remembered  from the Class of 66.

As I wasn't able to connect with anyone I was close to,   I left a tad early and went to explore some rivers and swamps nearby.  I checked out some old school fish camps and the land my dad bought " sight unseen' a bit south between West Palm Beach and Lake Okeechobee.

He purchased it in the late 50's. .  It was/is still a swamp.  The developers dug canals for the big power boats and piled up the 'spoil' into long  high rows back from the canals.  The land immediately adjacent to the 'big ditches' and between the higher ground was flat and kept well mowed....

Then the land/swamp was zoned to be and still is part of the flood control area to keep the wealthy land owners nearer the coast from being flooded.  I went down there to check it out.... using a canoe.  Awesome wet land with NO one anywhere near.  We still own it with taxes of around $70 a year.   A great place to camp and fish and ... evidently to hunt hogs.  Took the family there once after paddling the Silver River.  The float is a treat after leaving the crowded park.  FYI:  Tarzan films were made there.

Hi Tom  I was at a number of the DC events and helped plan a few / it was the Sheraton - Park. I also was at the Orlando event where I think I ran into Mike Moody.  The first post graduation reunion I attended, I seem to remember , was Don Nunes at a place ( maybe his parents) outside of DC along the Potomac.  Looking back, I too am amazed we were able to pull these off without all the electronics.  I think we were thrown out of the hotel at least once if not twice.

Yes, how did we connect?  Some sort of jumgle drums, I guess.  Even in Paris a lot of folks lacked phones.

Hi, Mike..  Only one reunion?  I seem to rember running into you twice,,,but?  We were on the Dutch rainy cycling trip in spring break 1962.
