Kudos to Caitlyn

This weekend, Caitlyn Clark, women's college basketball star at Iowa, set a new all-time scoring record for college basketball, men's or women's. Her accomplishment recalls the name of Pete Maravich, who played for Broughton High School, our arch-rival during this class' years. I remember that we won a game at Broughton during that time, perhaps in'65. Our star then was 6'9" Randy Denton, who attended Duke with some influence I suspect by coach Howard Hurt, the former Duke star. In the rematch on our home court, I also remember Pete hitting a Caitlyn-like set shot from logo-land, as it's now called, early in the game. By game's end, he had set the court record of 40+ points (we lost). Pete died at the young age of 40 with an undiagnosed heart deformity. He's being mentioned currently by media since the record he set at LSU is the one that Caitlyn broke. I thought this story might be of interest to my classmates, given that both Pete and Randy went on to great college and pro careers from their days as our peers. What were just our lives then connects us to life now by way of memories and past events.
