Useful Zoom Tips

  • Find a neutral backdrop like a wall or a door. The focus should be on you.
  • The camera should be at eye level. If necessary, try using a stack of books or a tripod to get your computer at the right height.
  • You need good lighting. You might consider putting a lamp next to your computer directed at your face.
  • Maintain eye contact with the other participants. This means looking directly into the camera and not at the image of yourself.
  • Find a quiet space with a minimum of echo. Everyday sounds can be very distracting on video. For example, if you live on a noisy street, sit as far away from the closed window as possible.
  • If you use your hands a lot when you talk, try to keep these gestures to a minimum.
