Ka Hughes (Wilfong)

Big Dad, I'm sorry, but I think you left everyone speechless!!!! What else can one say?

To me, I think your meds have you flying higher than a kite. Please come back to earth!! Hope it is in time for our reunion.

Ok, all you other folks, I know you are busy at this time of the year, but let's get something going on the message board. Wish I knew something "spicy" or "juicy" to write about, but when you are with grandkids all day long, one's language turns to mush.

And when you spend the rest of the day at a hospital, some of the terms there are not appropriate for the site.

I don't think anyone has tried to name the kids in the two newest pics posted on the photo gallery. Someone get started, please, because I was not around in those days. I don't have a clue who some of them are.

Ka, I've just been catching up --- so sorry about Ron. Hope and pray that he is making maximum progress each day.
Hope and pray that you can keep your sanity through all this.

Got this joke in email today --- make me think of you ---even if it is a little tame for your anticks.

>> Joke of the day
>>
>> Yesterday I was at my local COSTCO buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Biscuit, the Wonder Dog and was in the checkout line when woman behind me asked if I had a dog.
>>
>> What did she think I had, an elephant? So since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50
>> pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.
>>
>> I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter and a car hit us both.
>>
>> I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard.
>>
>> Costco won't let me shop there anymore.
>>
>> Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say.

Char

Here's a true story that just happened.
I bought a large older home in Huntsville recently from and estate to fix up and flip. It is in an exclusive area with lakes and golf course but had been unoccupied for a couple of years. On a corner lot it backed up to another house which has a 6' wooden privacy fence facing my property. The only thing I didn't like about this was that the fence had not been painted in many years and was and old barn rusty red and was badly faded. I thought a new dark tan paint on my side of the fence would offer more curb appeal so I had one of my guys paint it.
Within 2 hours the "rusty barn red neighbor" came by and was furious at me for painting "his fence" the new dark tan and demanded that I repaint the fence red within 3 days or else! I said OK! So........I let it slide till the 3rd day (yesterday) then went to Sherwin Williams and bought the "new" red paint. I believe it is called "French Whore Red". Soooo, it was being repainted red as the overly obnoxious neighbor requested. I gotta tell ya......as the new paint went on.....cars were slamming on their brakes in disbelief that anyone would ever paint a fence that color............as for me........I was just waiting.
First thing this morning here he came, furious, beside himself. I haven't made someone that mad in a long time and I was rather enjoying it. (I know, I've always had this mean streak) Now, here's what happened next.
He said "Are you out of your mind? Are you nuts? Are you just crazy? (Yes, he was screaming)Then he said....."who do you think you are?"
I don't know why I said this, but I said "I'm a Tulia Hornet" (Been on my mind lately)
He just stared speechless then said "Oh my God, no wonder!" We then started laughing, worked out a mutual agreement about the fence and the paint and parted friends. Turns out he was from Dimmit!

Now, I know this has been long and drawn out but I would like to add a little more if I may.
My family moved to Tulia in 1955 where we farmed 10 miles SE of town. I started school and rode the bus for many years with Joe Don, Lee Kesler, Charlotte, Marcia Inglis and Roland. I have had classes with probably everyone in our class at one time or another and made many friends who cross my memory more and more often these days. During the years I lived there our little town was at it's peak and somehow it seems that the very best people came to settle and live there. I know that I grew up at the best time, in the best place and with the best people on earth. Even just today, being a Tulia Hornet got me out of another mess and made me another friend. If I had a chance to do it all again..........I wouldn't change a thing. (well, maybe a couple of things) Looking forward to seeing you all.

Mark, that is a great story. Glad you had time to share it with us. I am glad he didn't ask you to paint it purple! It is great to share memories and realize how lasting those friendships can be.

See you in July.....

Mark!

You just made my day with a good laugh, then, brought a tear to my ol' baggy eyes! What a great story with a great message...My memories of growing up in Tulia are precious because of people I knew and laughed with like you!!! Mark, you never had to do anything in class, I would just look at you and you would make me giggle....then I would be the one that got in trouble while you had that "innocent" look on your face! (Did that happen to anyone else?)

PS to Jann...what a cute kid...Are those available at Walmart since I will never be a meemaw? My son just announced that he will never get married because women are too much trouble and expensive and try to change men after marriage and that he is happy with his dog and his awful green and orange bachelor pad that he cleans only right before Christmas so Santa can get in the door.

Y'all....Ka is right. We gotta stop watching the dreary news and get back to giggling with stories and antics on this forum. Char, maybe we should add another dimension to our profiles....our political views! THAT would start some heated yakkin', I bet!

AND...it is good to see BD awake again! Snirkle...

Just a note to ask a favor..... Can those of you who live close bring your portable outdoor chairs? Mother's backyard is very large, but we will need more seating. Her church is across the street. They have put in a volleyball court and have said we could use their kitchen if we need a "rain out" location. The "snow cone ladies" also want to make snow cones for us. We are looking forward to seeing everyone.

I looked at the new photos....can't tell what grade it is. Must be around 5th?? I recognize several people, but certainly not all.

Thank you Charlotte, Mark, and Mike for acknowledging my birthday. I was wondering if anyone has heard from Mike Crawford lately. He, Tommy Scruggs, and Anthony used to come over and play pool at my house. I believe he is in the Dallas metroplex area and is a plumber.
I had to be one of the shyest persons that ever existed in our class. I recently updated my photo. You might want to take a look. Some of the shyness has left. Dancing has bought me out of my shell. Dancing with the Stars is my very favorite program.

Aliece,
You mentioned something about political views. I have plenty of them........one of which includes buying ammunition on a regular basis!

Marcia...What a great pic! Would love to see you dance...I do not remember your shyness...I remember a friendly gal with a great smile!

Mark...I hear you...we are doing the same.

Can't wait to see everyone in July!

I've retrieved some fun items from the attic...record album with picture of the TJHS concert band...the recording made at WT during contest...a bell rings in the middle of a number! Report cards, pictures, programs, GA stuff from church, Girl Scout stuff, Rainbow girls stuff - in all the years we moved around in the Air Force, I kept one box of childhood treasures and all these items made the cut every time. Amazing!

I still have my charm bracelet, too...it is such a treasure! I'll wear it, for sure!

Several years ago my mom found a Brownie camera with a roll of film in it. She had it processed. Pics are from the band trip we took in Jr. High to MacKenzie Park in Lubbock. You never know what you'll find in a box of old stuff!

I do wonder why they didn't have me take off those horrid glasses in class pictures after 3rd grade!

OK all, I am creating a trivia for a contest according to the class mate profiles. Read up on others and we will see who can remember such things as:
Name as many classmates as possible that are/were teachers. I will have sheets for you to fill out at the reunion....just something to help us all get "re" acquainted before the reunion.

I came in from chores to make lunch and had the TV on to Veria, a natural healing channel on DISH. I heard a familiar voice with a Texas twang, looked up and it was Dr. Nancy Bozeman!!! She is a holistic vet somewhere but could not determine where. The segment was about mange in dogs and she cured them with her treatment! Does anyone know where she is??

06/16/09 03:59 PM #391

Beverly Burrow (Golden)

I was curious, too...and, since my husband is a veterinarian, too...we looked her up!

Then, found this in a google search.

THE ANIMAL DOCTOR
Dr. Nancy Bozeman, DVM (Alternative Vet. Medicine)
5721 S.W. Green Oaks Blvd. (at I-20)
Arlington, TX 76017
817-572-2400
Specializing in: Classical Homeopathy, Chiropractic (VOM), Nutrition, Acupuncture, Herbs, NAET.

Some of us might remember when Nancy's mom was our girl scout leader. We had at least one sleepover in their back yard. I remember, too, that her mom had a kiln for pottery making. Crazy thing to remember, huh?

06/16/09 05:18 PM #392

Aliece Sefcik (Lowe)

Wow...thanks Bev! That was fast work!

Your memory seems well intact! I have not thought of scouts forever. I now remember Neatha, wife of Dr. Paul Stewart, was my leader. Wish I could remember what we did!

I remember the kiln too. We made many items over there. Nancy came to the last reunion. If anyone contacts her, tell her to sign on. Maybe she will come this time too.

Great, Aliece, that you saw her on TV. A celebrity among us.

Me and Fred Boston and Fred Evans used to go out to FB's place after church on Sunday and kiln lotsa prairie dogs. Can't figure out how the kiln wound up at Mrs. Bozeman's place or what kiln prairie dogs has to do with potties.

Befuddled.

I've seen Nancy B several times over the years at various veterinary meetings. She has not changed a bit, just older. Still non-conventional.

I remember her mother being very artistic. Clem, her older brother (2 yrs), won the Halloween costume contest one year as an owl, seems like when we were in second grade. Costume was made from a paper dry cleaning bag. Easily the best costume that year, as I recall.

Odd the memories we associate with names.

What I remember most about Nancy is that I never recall seeing her angry. She was always smiling. Regardless of the kind of day you were having, she could make you laugh......pretty unique qualities back then. I'll bet that part of her has not changed a bit.

I remember visiting Nancy at her house. I was amazed at all the oil paintings her Mother had laying out working on. I also remember Nancy being very talented at drawing. She must have inherited that from her Mother. Also I remember her wearing that cute little hat at our last reunion. I do not recall the name of the classmate that was selling the hats.

We just bought a 22 pistol yesterday. Guess growing up in Tulia has made a lot of us "radicals".

Judy Gunnels (Love)

Aliece, I was also in Mrs. Stewarts girl scout troop.
I remember we had our meetings in the apartment above her garage and making Christmas candy. Also we took a trip to Carlsbad Caverens one year. That is really all there is in this memory. Linda Smith was the one who made the hats that Nancy was wearing.
