Ka Hughes (Wilfong)

It is hard to begin telling about all the fun that went on this weekend. My emotions were definately stirred. I have not thought about so many memories in a long time.

The meal gathering, (Friday) rain excitement, and visiting in the back yard was all fantastic. I love it when grown men confess all of their sins!!!! HaHa.

Breakfast attracted a few new ones, as did the gathering at the Baptist Church. Thank you everyone that attended the events in Tulia.

Now, Lubbock, opened up another chapter to our visiting. There was so much shared in just talking, laughing, eating and getting to know the "real" being of each other. I will cheris it forever.

I need to express just how fortunate I feel being a part of such an amazing class. You took me in my Freshman year and accepted me as a "home grown" member. That move was very hard for me, but ya'll seemed to ease the pain. Now, years later, I am still growing in being just "one of the gang". Thank you all for being good friends and loved ones.

Thank You ~~~~ Char, Karen, and Dorinda for all the help in planning and making this year happen.

Char,
I had 57 sign in the book. I feel like I am missing someone. We will have to get together and check for just who that might be. I did not count John Goen since he was a teacher.

After a conference, Ka and I both have a count of 58! Probably the largest ever.

Again, thanks to Dorinda, Ka, Mike, Karen, Johnnie, Margie, Dian and all those that carried food, vacuumed floors, wiped tables, made cookies, etc. We can't forget those husbands that really worked hard especially Friday night: Tom (Dorinda), Ron (Dian), Cletus (Margie), Ted (Johnnie), Dale (Charlotte). I don't think most of you realize how much those guys did. They cooked, cleaned, and kept quiet (ha).

Ka has key chains left for those of you who did not get one. Let us know if you would like one, and we will mail it to you for a donation to the class fund.

Still working on total expenses, but I feel we will be fine and will have some left for the treasury.

Oh my...what a fine looking group! It was a delight to see your smiling faces this morning! And, so grateful there were names under the photos or I would not have known some of you! What a fun time!

AL

I would like 3 photos and keychains...I'll get a set to Sandy and Sheri. Thanks! (PS....check is in the mail!)

Posted the few pics that I took on my profile page - I need help identifying everyone...

I think everyone should decide who was most changed. ME was C.E,) Most interesting life (mine was Richard E.) Most kids and grandkids (can't remember, but was someone that told me she had 7 kids and numberous grands, who was it?) Funniest story (hard to vote for me between Kenneth and Mike) Or funniest memory (Mike on the bus after their basketball lossTraveled the longest distance (does Richard E win?) Or sweetest person (all of you). Any other firsts, bests or worsts we should remember? My mind is on overload trying to remember everything. Thanks for all the pictures. Love you all, Queenie (Old Princess to my grandbaby)

Sharon Stout (Curry)

Also who do you think was changed the least. (Me, it is Cliff, he still looks just like he did 40 years ago and that is wrong!)

07/20/09 07:45 PM #457

Charlotte Grantham (O'Daniel)

Aliece: will get your orders for you.

Jann: will see if I can help on identification.

Sharon: Sharla George Behan has 7 children and 17 grandchildren and still looks like a million! That is wrong.

I agree with least changed: Cliff. After looking at the picture in the annual, C.E. looked pretty much the same. I thought Richard Eggemeyer and Vickie Henderson had changed a lot....but cute as ever. All stories were great! I realized I missed a lot of stuff that was going on. I guess I was in my own little world most of the time.

It was too much fun!

Great pictures Jann. Too many to try to identify. I think I know most people in each picture however. So let me know which pic and which person and I can tell you who they are.....

Ka, be sure to send 3 keychains to Aliece. I have her on the picture list.

Hey, I see some of you that attended the reunion are reading and looking but not posting your thoughts. It is more fun when people beside Ka and Charlotte write.....

Post something :)

Be sure to read the home page info about the big 60's birthday party. We need suggestions.

Buttons Carlisle

What a wonderful weekend we had! Words are inadequate to express the gratitude to those who worked so hard to make another most successful reunion. I think it was one of our best.

I am awed by the group of professional individuals that make up the Tulia Class of 1969. I am not a teacher, PhD, pilot, inventor, builder, vet or any of the other impressive occupations of the Class of '69. This has caused me to ponder what role I play in the team that we form.

Here is how I have resolved that dilemma. After all the Walmarts are closed, I will (hopefully) still be here to put food on your table and a shirt on your back. "I live with nature: where brains and brawn and toil supply mankind's primary needs" (Levy).

Like Ka, I am a late arrival to THS, but I got there as fast as I could. Thanks for letting me be a part of your team. You are like family to me. I think many of us came to that realization this weekend when we shared our time and our thoughts. You could almost feel and see the bond drawing us closer as we spent those precious moments together. It was difficult to part company.

I love you all. Keep in touch.

Buttons, I could not have put it any better myself. We both know how it feels going into a strange school. I have really had some hard times when everyone is talking about the grade school years. But really and truly, it was High School that made the difference in who we all turned out to be.

All the funny pranks and not so funny lickings!!! It all adds up to be us ~ the class of '69.

Sunday morning was the best of all times for me. I really felt like we all were one with each other. I had to hold back my tears. But, why should I care if I cry?
I don't!! I really enjoyed my time this weekend.

I talked to Mary today and she sounded really good. I told her all about the weekend and she said it made her feel like she was there with us. (She was in spirit)
For those that would like to send Mary Williams a sympathy card:

What a weekend! How could it have been more perfect? To you gals (and BD) that put it all together, SALUTE! All the activities were well thought out and top notch. Only regrets are that all classmates could not be there, we couldn't spend a whole week together, and that one of my helments was a total loss after the storm fiasco (sp?). Oh well, I'm getting one that matches my bike anyway.

Just want everyone to know how proud I am to be a small part of such a fine group of classmates. Ya'll made Vivian feel right at home, thanks. I'm already looking forward to the 60 year birthday bash being planned for 2011. Let's all try our best to be there. In the meantime, let's be FBI agents and locate all the missing students that "played hookey" and get them signed up on this site.

I cast my votes for Roland and Princess for least changed.

Charlotte Grantham (O'Daniel)

I got up early to report about Fran and I took time to read the new messages. Ka, I am now in tears! I too was having trouble holding them back on Sunday morning, but they are flowing right now and I don't know why!

Anyway, back to why I am writing.

Fran Burton, our gracious hostess, is in Tulia hospital. She is getting fluids but seems to be dealing with possible Rheumatoid Arthritis. They will run more tests. Be praying for her and Dorinda in the upcoming days.

Also, Don Henthorn is facing surgery in the next few days. We will report how it turns out. Be praying for the Henthorn family as well.

As we age, so do our parents. Many of us are facing trying times with aging parents. I am glad your parents have you---such wonderful people to care for them.

Buttons, you are the root of it all. Couldn't do anything without you and your profession!

Love to all.

Becky Teel (Milner)

I, too, want to say a huge THANK YOU to Charlotte, Karen, Ka, Dorinda, and Mike (and anyone else I'm missing) for the hard work and fun times. Having lived in Tulia for the 20th and 30th, I am still dealing with feelings of guilt for not being there to help with this one.

I think the fact that those who became Hornets a little later (like Ka, Buttons, and Jann)and those who had to leave us before graduation (like Bev and Sharla) had just as much fun as those of us who were there from 1st grade through graduation says it all!

Jann, I love your picture of the handshake!

Boyd just experienced the big 60 - it was pretty low key and I found myself thinking I would want a little more excitement in a couple of years. The birthday bash sounds great to me!

Marcia Inglis (Nunn)

Dorinda - My thoughts and prayers are with your mother, she was so gracious to allow us to invade her home and made us all feel so welcome.

Let me add my THANKS to all of you who worked so hard to plan and cause this to be such a special gettogether for the rest of us. Your spouses did so much too!!!! Dorinda, Ka, Charlotte, you are so appreciated and deserve the classmates of the Cenury award!

Please let me know what I can do for the 60th BD bash, am already looking forward to it.

I agree that Roland was least changed, and Vicki was the most. Time has been good to both.

Thanks to all who posted pics, they were great. Keep em cooming.

Mike, let us know how your dad is doing, Is his surgery to be in Amarillo? Does anyone know? Prayers are with you and Faye for him.

Favorite time was just getting to know everyone again as grown ups, well, some of you have partially grown up, others not so much!! Each minute was special. Thanks again to all who helped and all who showed up..Each person's presence contributed to the enjoyment of all.

Buttons, you do what is the most basic to our survival, and where we all pretty much come from. So thank you, too.
Hope to see you all soon in 2011.

Dorinda Burton (Eargle)

I agree with so many of the comments already. So many people working together pulled off a great weekend! I think one thing is for sure - the class of 1969 is first class! I spoke to several of our teachers at the Saturday lunch visit. All of those teachers were so pleased to see us all and each and every one of them told me they knew we were a special group.

Mother took lots of pictures and when I get a few minutes I will get them posted. To give you an update on her, she is still in the hospital today, but is doing so much better. Her joint swelling is down considerably this morning so she can move without hurting. They believe the root cause is colitis. She was diagnosed with that years ago and it appears to have flared up triggering a lot of inflamation all over. They don't believe it to be serious, just very uncomfortable until they get it under control. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers...I will pass them along. I doubt she will be in the hospital much longer. I have changed my plans and am staying until (at least) Monday the 27th. Come by!

My thoughts - Tom's comments and well as our teachers - what a great class!

Thanks to all who worked so hard to insure this delightful weekend. Dorinda, Charlotte, Karen, Ka, and Mike and those who were behind the scences thank you, and kudos to you all.

I believe everyone had a great time. Buttons it seems that you have to keep getting larger trailers for the parade each reunion. For those that I got to visit with, thanks for sharing with me.

I guess the "60 birthday" thing came after I left, but please keep me intune. It was truly great seeing everyone. Like Mr. Pollard told Ken and I just before he put the attact to our bottom sides. You'all really have a special class.

Gotta do a 'baldy' guess:
Ken Miller
Eldon McClurg
John Richards
and of course Ricky Cox. If I got it wrong-don't get your feelings hurt. OOPS?

Ka Hughes (Wilfong)

Well, you got 3 out of 4. Care to try again?

I know someone will get all 4. Let's have someone else try.

Beverly Burrow (Golden)

I agree...Princess and Cliff get the Dick Clark prize for least changed!
Everyone looked wonderful, though...it was just great to be part of the Tulia '69 bunch again for a while. A possibility for 2011 60th birthday party: Guadalupe River Ranch in Boerne. It was once one of Olivia deHavilland's homes...for real! It is a nice little hotel/retreat place with a good restaurant. See what you think: http://www.guadaluperiverranch.com/
But, there are MANY other places in Hill Country. It's hot, hot down here in the summer...might want to consider April or October...???

I had a great time. Let's do it again, or the 60th birthday thing.

Charlotte Grantham (O'Daniel)

I just saw Fran and she seems to be back to her wonderful, cheerful self. She is running some tests this p.m. I am glad she is doing better.

Yes, Don Henthorn is in Amarillo, but not sure where. Maybe Mike will have an update tonight.

I forgot to thank Buttons and Roland for the trailer for the parade again! You guys do a great job. Loved the hay ride. Maybe in 5 years you could get a covered wagon with air conditioning??? Just a thought.

The 60's bash: Boern sounds great. Just keep ideas coming, and we will get a group to make the decision and make the reservations at a later date. We were thinking about being out of school in June. Some of us are still shining the apple...of course who knows what we will be doing in 2011!

Loving the comments!
