Charlotte Grantham (O'Daniel)

Thanks for reminding me, C.E.! I bet you laugh about that for months! I am still trying to catch my breath....

Financial report: All food bills have been paid (that people would take) and I deposited $301.00 into the class account. We now have $461.00. Feel free to make a donation anytime you have extra cash laying around!
We paid $50.00 each to FBC and Calvary Baptist Church for use of facilities (it is nice to know powerful people in great places--it usually costs more for the use).

Some donations made by members:
Keychains: Ka and Ron Wilfong donated all money to the class
Snacks/sodas Saturday night in Lubbock (a beautiful spread): Mike and Donna Henthorn donated (I know that some of you helped him with that, but I do not know exactly who)
Munchies/dips for Friday night and wine for Saturday night: Dorinda and Tom donated
Sausage Friday night: Charlotte and Dale donated
Lots of Ice: Johnnie and Ted McGee

If you donated something or know of someone who did, please, please let me know. What a great bunch!!!!

Thank you, Ka, for sending the key chains and, Charlotte, for the reunion photos which turned out so good! I will be sending a set to Sheri. Sandy is still in ICU and I will be taking her set to her this week. As far as I know, no change yet. Keep sending those love prayers!!

Ok, I give up. Who is the gentleman between Connie and Ka in the picture?

07/29/09 11:16 AM #503

Charlotte Grantham (O'Daniel)

That must be Ron Inman. I never got a picture of him at the reunion---he must have been running from me!

Now that I look closely, there is a black spot on Jann as pointed out by Herbie. That must have been from the flash or something. I am diappointed in that. The daughter came to take our picture due to the photographer taking photos at a wedding. Probably she could use some more training! Sorry about that.

Here's an update on Sandy:

Jo emailed Saturday and said that Sandy was resting comfortably following a successful tracheotomy. She is still in ICU and there may be some additional procedures on Monday. Her main health issue right now is her lungs. Continue to keep her in your prayers.

UPDATE on Sandy:

In an early morning email, Jo shared that Sandy is showing signs of improvement!! She is (naturally) asking to go home. That won't be anytime soon, but it is FANTASTIC news to hear that she is responding to treatment! Please continue to remember her in prayer.

I just got word that Cynthia Quiroz passed away at Dumas (we think). Anyway, I will try to find out details (if you have any, let me know) and post what I find out.

O.K., through some searching, I found out that Maria Cynthia Quiroz passed away on July 31, 2009. She had been living in Dumas. I will see if I can get a copy of the obituary.

Hello Everyone:

Sandy continues to respond to treatment. Needless to say, after several weeks in ICU she is extremely weak. She has begun some physical therapy. Her progress isn't quite speedy enough for her, but her lungs are improving.
I will continue to share information as Jo sends updates.

Charlotte Grantham (O'Daniel)

Thanks again, Becky, for keeping us posted. Without your updates, we would not know how she is doing. So grateful to hear she is improving. God is good and He will watch over her as He does us all.

I just thought that everyone would like to know that Tommy Vaughn's Dad had another stroke. He is in the Swisher Hospital as of right now. Please keep them in your prayers at this time.

Update on Sandy:

Sandy is still hospitalized. There were some setbacks this past weekend, but she is starting to make some new gains. Please continue to pray for her and for the doctors and nurses caring for her. This is tough on Sandy's family, too. Please keep them in your prayers as well.

Hello all. Am finally back to checking into the Forum to see what is going on. Lots of prayer needs that will keep us busy--but what else are we here for?
Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts that have come my way these past few weeks. Am in Physical Therapy now and they say I am doing well. Took a little road trip to Taos this weekend and did ok, so I am looking forward to full recovery.
Keep those comments and updates coming. Later.

Dollar General just burned down in Tulia. It was 3 buildings down from Tulia floral I understand, but the other buildings were saved. News flash from a Tulia Flash.

Tulia took another hit! Tornado, fire at Conestoga, and now a fire at Dollar General. What else? Two buildings went down. A big mess...fortunately, no one was hurt. Thanks to all the wonderful firemen.

Aliece Sefcik (Lowe)

I hated hearing about Tulia's fire. Was that the only place to buy stuff other than the food store? I haven't been to Tulia for about 15-20 years and am unfamiliar with our town. It was so good to see a profile from Aniceto. I remember how nice his father was, sweetly smiling, as he cleaned up after all of us!! Good to see Shirley's cuties and Mark's cutie! (Oops...that sounds bad, oh well...I'm leaving it!) What happened to all the chit chat on here? I am gone a few weeks, working in the poo poo at the ranch and killing tomatoes and everybody's takin' a nap!! I initally thought it was because you guys were recovering from the reunion but that's been 6 weeks ago! Aren't you taking your daily dose of Viva Vivarin??

Charlotte Grantham (O'Daniel)

Aliece,
We do have a Family Dollar and did have a Dollar General (which burned). Dollar General is almost ready to move into their new building---thank goodness it is almost finished. So we do have a big competitive shopping mega center when you include the "Lowes" grocery--relatives?? Come sometime and I'll give you the grand tour.

Ka Hughes (Wilfong)

I'm with Aliece, where has everyone gone to? I know some are back at work but where are the rest of you?

As for myself, I took some time to go to a golf tournament. (I got 2nd in my flight, by the way!) I really felt good about that since I have not been able to play golf allllll summer.

I also wanted to share with everyone that Sheri Love Merriman dropped in to visit yesterday. It was a total surprise. She has not been back to Tulia in over 20 years. Boy, did we have a good visit. She can't wait until we have our 60th bash. I hope everyone else is gearing up for it.

I was gone when the fire happened, but I was sure that the locals would help take care of everything, in which they did. Tulia is a tuff town, it can withstand tornados, ice storms, hail storms, 8" of flooding rain, winds with gusts up to 70 miles an hour, dirt storms, bad publicity and finally fires and that could all happen in just one day. I think the founding fathers of this town would be proud of us today.

Becky, have you gotten an update on Sandy lately? We still need to keep her in our prayers.

Ka

Charlotte Grantham (O'Daniel)

Aliece and Ka,
You might be surprised to know that many classmates are checking the forum pretty often----but no one is talking! We need some new viagra stories or something.

Mike's mom and dad both had surgery, so I know they are all busy. I heard that they are doing pretty well. Don should be coming home today or Tuesday.

Steve Barbour's mom had back surgery. I am not sure how she is doing, but I pray she is doing ok.

Sheri, glad you made it back to Tulia. Would love to have seen you.....maybe next time you are this way.

Let's start getting some 60's bash ideas. Be checking out neat places in your area.

Sandy Update:

I received an update from Jo today. Sandy's lungs have made some noticeable improvement recently. The doctors are trying to help her breathe on her own, but it is currently a carefully planned, step-by-step situation. She is still sedated much of the time, but she did get to see her grandchildren this past weekend. Heath Morris took his little boys to see their grandma! Jo and John (Sandy's husband)try to rotate staying with her at the hospital. Aliece has been a great support to them all! Please keep them all in your prayers.

"60th" bash:

If we plan something in the spring I think something along the line of Beverly's idea sounds great! If we wait until summer Cliff's idea of a mountain retreat sounds pretty tempting. I never thought I would be so anxious for the big 6-0 to arrive!

Charlotte...Personally, I don't have a Viagra story and pray to God I never will....but I received the following story that I hope makes some of you smile...(Put your clackers in first, though!!!)

The husband leans over and asks his wife, 'Do you remember the first time we had sex together over fifty years ago? We went behind the village tavern where you leaned against the back fence and I made love to you.' Yes, she says, 'I remember it well..' OK,' he says, 'How about taking a stroll around there again and we can do it for old time's sake?' 'Oh Jim, you old devil, that sounds like a crazy, but good idea!' A police officer sitting in the next booth heard their conversation and, having a chuckle to himself, he thinks to himself, I've got to see these two old-timers having sex against a fence. I'll just keep an eye on them so there's no trouble. So he follows them. The elderly couple walk haltingly along, leaning on each other for support aided by walking sticks.. Finally, they get to the back of the tavern and make their way to the fence.. The old lady lifts her skirt and the old man drops his trousers. As she leans against the fence, the old man moves in.. Then suddenly they erupt into the most furious sex that the policeman has ever seen. This goes on for about ten minutes while both are making loud noises and moaning and screaming. Finally, they both collapse, panting on the ground. The policeman is amazed. He thinks he has learned something about life and old age that he didn't know..After about half an hour of lying on the ground recovering, the old couple struggle to their feet and put their clothes back on. The policeman, is still watching and thinks to himself, this is truly amazing, I've got to ask them what their secret is.. So, as the couple passes, he says to them,' Excuse me, but that was something else. You must've had a fantastic sex life together.. Is there some sort of secret to this?' Shaking, the old man is barely able to reply, 'Fifty years ago that wasn't an electric fence.'

Snirkles to all and have a good day! AL

Aliece, that was a good one. We need more jokes and tales.

Becky, my mind is slow. Remind me of Beverly's suggestion. I think I remember about the mountains.

Let's all keep suggestions coming. We will have a perfect 60's bash wherever it is.....

Char - I think it was somewhere in the hill country. It sounded like fun, but I remember her mentioning it might be hot in the summer - even in June.

Beverly - where was it?

Sandy Update:

If you would like to send a card to Sandy (Carter) Valko, she has been moved out of MICU. She is now in the Specialty Hospital at Via Christi St. Francis on the 6th floor - room 6017. More than likely, she will be there for an extended time. I will let you know if that changes. Jo hopes to hear soon what the new plan for treatment will be. Sandy's doctors will all be back on duty tomorrow.

Dorinda Burton (Eargle)

Becky, thanks for the updates on Sandy's progress. We continue to keep her in our prayers. Remind me...is her illness the result of pneumonia and complications from that? Tom and I have started building a deck down by our pond. Too bad we are so far or you could all come for fishing and grilling down by the pond. I received several birthday messages. Thanks to all of you. I had almost forgotten what it was like being one of the oldest in our class (until Mac reminded me, Ha)
