Hornet football update as I understand it:
I, too, do not know the whole story. I know that the team was not doing very well---team of 1969 survived----and some of the kids and parents were not taking that very well. Anyway, some players were injured which didn't help the games any, grades got a few, and several underclassmen players began to quit. Finally, there were too few to play a big game against Muleshoe and those in charge decided to not play that game. Some freshmen/JV players would have to play and there could be some injuries.
The district leaders had the choice to allow Tulia to finish the season or not. They chose not.
I, like Ka, do not blame anyone person or group. It is a very complicated situation in which the results affect so many. I am so sad that this had to occur for the coaches, the kids (that wanted to continue to play and did what they needed to do), the school, the community, and even the other teams.
I do want to briefly comment that the students today often choose the easy way out. They want to win without having to put in the time, effort, or discipline. If they do not "like" someone or something, the easy way is to quit. I can see it in the classroom and in the other extracurricular activities as well. I hope it is not just a Tulia problem, but I hope it is not a generation problem either. I have some wonderful students that work so hard and do everything asked of them. I still love working with kids and seeing them mature and grow in many ways. However, the numbers of that type of student seems to be smaller than just a few years back. So many kids have so many negative influences in their lives--I don't know how they make it at all. I am not sure I could.
Please pray for our community, school, students, parents, and everyone. We are still trying to recover from 1999. As Ka said, they won't leave us alone! We were on the front page of the Amarillo paper this week again and have been in the TV news several times.
