Sandy originally went to the hospital (one week before our reunion) with some digestive problems. Before surgery could be performed some additional health problems were discovered and she developed pnuemonia shortly thereafter. Now there are many complications and her lungs are the most affected. Hopefully, there will be a new plan of treatment soon!

For those of you who are Cowboy fans, the new Cowboy Stadium is a must see. I, for one, am fearful of heights. My friend bought tickets and we sat on the sixth row from the top. The seating is extremely steep!!
It took me awhile to get used to the height. However, the stadium is very impressive. Actually, it is easier to get in and out of than Texas Stadium. That high definition screen is amazing. The color is wonderful. I love football, and I'm hoping the Cowboys and Longhorns due mighty well.

With Sports on the mind. After reading an article about Micheal Jordon and the Basketball Hall of Fame, I was reminded of seeing an action photo of Mary Williams on display in the Hall of Fame in a section for women's college basketball. This was several years ago ( about '86 ) while I was living in upstate New York (I do not miss snow ). So Congrats to Mary even if it is 20 some odd years late.

Okay, a quick story on the two "guests" that appear on our home page.....I neither invited them nor had them delivered, but I did hear an interesting conversation between them on the hotel elevator.

We all got in the elevator on the first floor along with an older gentleman wearing bermuda shorts and a black shirt. This poor guy had the worst case of dandruff I have ever seen. I mean his shirt was covered with white flakes. He looked like he had been hanging sheetrock all day. He got off on the second floor. As soon as the door had closed the "lady" in the blue tank top told the other gal "somebody needs to give that guy some Head and Shoulders!" As they were exiting the elevator on the 4th floor, the "lady" in the white tank top leaned over and asked her buddy "how do you give shoulders?" I'm still trying to figure out what they were talking about. Anyway, in the spirit of friendship, I invited them to our 60th bash. They said they'd get back to me.

Hope everyone is well and happy!

Big Dad

Looks like Big Daddy is back! Thanks for the laugh.
Saw dad, Don, the other day. He says he is getting better each day. I continue to pray for him and mom, Faye, too.

Hey, all. Isn't the internet great? I was spending some time the other day searching for possible "60 bash" locations, and found one I thought would be super. Seemed to have all the right amenitites. Anyway, I wrote to the nice lady asking for prices. She promptly returned with a price sheet. If you have jobs or retirement that pays---let's say in the way-up-there--more than teaching does---then I bet we could afford it. I choked. Needless to say, I am still looking!

After the first of the year, I will put up a survey to see what you might be thinking about time of year to go, where to go, etc. I have received some suggestions and some offers. Let's continue to think about it. Remember, we can't please everyone and anyway, we are going for the good time together, not the amenitites! We will just try to make it available to as many as possible.

Sandy Update:

I heard from Jo this morning. Over the past couple of weeks Sandy has made some progress in her new setting. She is breathing on her own more and they are adjusting her medications. She may still have quite a long stay in the hospital, but steady progress (even slow) is a good sign. This might be a good time for a new surge of get well wishes!

I have good news about Sandy!!

Jo emailed that Sandy has had a great week! She is now breathing completely on her own and the doctor said that it appears the lung infection is clear! Because she has been so inactive for many weeks, she will have to take it slowly and take advantage of some physical therapy to regain her strength. Now the doctors will try to determine the best way to treat her original health issues.

For your prayers and support Jo said: "Thank you, thank you, thank you".

To all,

Bev, Princess and I are meeting next week to discuss possible location for the 60s bash. Sharon will be visiting the area and will also be apart of the meeting. Since we all live in the area, we would be glad to check out any place suggested. Suggested is first week in June which will allow school personnel to attend and it will be before the weather is sooo hot. The Hill Country is beautiful and somewhat centrally located for people from all parts of the state.

I thoroughly enjoyed the reunion. I had great expectations and all were surpassed. I feel honored to have been a member of a great group of people.

I'm jealous! I wish I was there listening to all the tales you all will be telling. I hope you find the perfect spot for our gathering. Enjoy the meal. Have fun.

Not just good news - GREAT NEWS!

Jo emailed this morning to let us know that Sandy is now at home! After 3 months in the hospital she is home!
She has made great progress and she is off meds.

They are very grateful for the prayers and support of friends. Isn't it fun to celebrate with her?

I don't know about y'all, but I am lovin' this great fall weather!

Hey, I don't know about ya'll, but I AM FREEZING!!!!

We went to Floydada today for the pumpkin days and let me tell you, it was entirely toooooo cold to even be out side. We only stayed for an hour or two.

I sure hope Kelly, Pricess and who ever else met came up with some good ideas for our get-to-gether. I am ready to go anywhere where it is warm, right now!!!!

Hey, that is great news about Sandy.

In addition to Becky's post, I talked to Sandy on Thursday for the first time since she was admitted in July! She sounds great and ready to get well!

Has anyone heard from any of the other classmates that did not attend the reunion and have not completed their profiles?

Fall??? Snow and ice are in the forecast up here in no man's land! Time to snuggle with your teddy bear, live or stuffed!!

I had no idea everyone was still posting so much! I will check more often now...lots of news! I had to go back a page or two.

Princess served a lovely lunch on Thursday and we talked a lot about the birthday bash. Gary was there, too, and had some good ideas. Kelly will fill you in.

Sharon was to be in Austin for wedding and took a couple of extra days to visit in the area.

Princess, thank you! Sharon, so glad you came so we would have an excuse to get together, and Kelly, thanks for making the plans! Perfect afternoon together!

I was so surprised to see on the sports segment on T.V. that the rest of THS's varsity football season has been canceled this year. Ka, Charlotte, Karen, anybody from Tulia want to comment on this.

WHATTT????? Never give up! They need to go out and get their butts kicked every Friday like we did! Can anyone enlighten us as to why this happened.

Mike, I believe what I understood was Tulia didn't have enough players and the ones they had were not devoted. Do not take my word on this. Buttons, some of you guys, anyone from Tulia, we want to know the REAL STORY!!

O.K., well I'm not an expert on what is going on or has happened, but I will try and explain. The first announcement was that Tulia was canceling its game because of illness, grades got some, and then a lack of players because of some quiting. So, then, I heard that we had canceled all of the games. I am not going to tell you that is their fault, his fault, or anyone person's fault. I believe there has been some problems for awhile and it just finally came to a boiling point.
I think Tulia needs to "move on" and start anew. That is, if the Amarillo paper will let us. They keep bringing up 1999. They will never "let it go"!!!! Trust me, all of us here were stunned by this. We are proud of the Tulia Hornets and our Town. It will take us some time to build back that deep down pride and school spirit that we all felt when we were in school.

Thank you Ka. I appreciate your responce. Also thanks for all the Tulia people that helped make the reunion so special. I am sorry I did not make the Saturday events. There were so many people I would have liked to talk to. Aliece, I really looked forward to talking to you. Sorry you couldn't make it.

Things have gotten a little boring so I thought I might pass on a happening or two from Henthornville.

My next door neighbor stopped by this afternoon to watch me wash the bird poop off of my sidewalk and I immediately noticed that he had lost a bunch of weight. When I inquired as to the secret of his astounding success he sheepishly admitted he had finally tried Viagra for the first time and suffered from an unexpected but pleasant side effect.......food was no longer appealing to him. He had essentially lost his appetite. He went on to explain that the morning he took his first dose his wife said "Honey, you have made me so happy!! Let me fix you a big breakfast! I'll scramble some eggs, cook some hashbrowns, bake you some fresh muffins, brew you some coffee and squeeze some fresh orange juice." He said "I'm sorry dear but none of that sounds good to me right now."

Later that same day she said baby I'm worried about you. Let me make you a nutritious lunch of tuna salad sandwiches on wheat with fresh peaches and cottage cheese and some of your favorite chocolate cake for dessert! Once again he said "I'm sorry sweetie, but food just does not appeal to me anymore".

That evening she said "Darling, please let me broil you nice ribeye steak with a baked potato? I'll make a fresh salad and open a bottle of that expensive red wine we've been saving! He replied "I'm sorry honey, I'm just not hungry." She replied "THEN DO YOU MIND LETTIN' ME UP 'CAUSE I'M ABOUT TO STARVE TO DEATH!!

Strange how things work.....ain't it? She sure has been doing a lot of community service lately. She leaves early of a mornin' and might stay gone volunteering all day. I guess that might be another good side effect of Viagra!

Hornet football update as I understand it:

I, too, do not know the whole story. I know that the team was not doing very well---team of 1969 survived----and some of the kids and parents were not taking that very well.
Anyway, some players were injured which didn't help the games any, grades got a few, and several underclassmen players began to quit. Finally, there were too few to play a big game against Muleshoe and those in charge decided to not play that game. Some freshmen/JV players would have to play and there could be some injuries.

The district leaders had the choice to allow Tulia to finish the season or not. They chose not.

I, like Ka, do not blame anyone person or group. It is a very complicated situation in which the results affect so many. I am so sad that this had to occur for the coaches, the kids (that wanted to continue to play and did what they needed to do), the school, the community, and even the other teams.

I do want to briefly comment that the students today often choose the easy way out. They want to win without having to put in the time, effort, or discipline. If they do not "like" someone or something, the easy way is to quit. I can see it in the classroom and in the other extracurricular activities as well. I hope it is not just a Tulia problem, but I hope it is not a generation problem either. I have some wonderful students that work so hard and do everything asked of them. I still love working with kids and seeing them mature and grow in many ways. However, the numbers of that type of student seems to be smaller than just a few years back. So many kids have so many negative influences in their lives--I don't know how they make it at all. I am not sure I could.

Please pray for our community, school, students, parents, and everyone. We are still trying to recover from 1999. As Ka said, they won't leave us alone! We were on the front page of the Amarillo paper this week again and have been in the TV news several times.
