Michael Henthorn

Hi folks,

Here is the latest on the Lubbock activities for your perusal, comment and approval:

I have reserved a block of 30 rooms (20 double queen and 10 king) at the Hampton Inn and Suites West. There is more than 1 Hampton in Lubbock, so be sure you have the correct one. Address and contact info appear later in this blog. If we need more than 30 rooms, there are 3 other properties within a half block of this one. They should be able to take the overflow. The price is $95 plus tax and includes a full hot breakfast on Sunday morning. We also have the meeting room for Saturday afternoon until???

I have reserved a dining room at Joe's Crabshack which is app. 1-1/2 blocks from the hotel. It holds app. 70 people. I figured we might need the space if visitors wanted to drift in and out. We will order off of the menu. Everyone will be responsible for their own ticket. Depending on what you eat and drink, prices can vary from $8 to $20 per head.

After we eat, we will make our way to the Cactus Theatre where Don Caldwell Productions is staging a special 1960's night for us. It will be golden oldies and 60's rock and roll and maybe a little THS trivia. It will be open to the public in case other transplanted Tulians want to crash our party. The discounted cost is $20 per seat. I have purchased 50 tickets, so those who want to attend can just pay me. If we need more, I can probably get them if I let them know early enough. I am still trying to work out transportation to and from the Cactus. We may wind up having to carpool. I'll update you as things firm up.

So here is the itenerary:
Saturday July 18,
2:00 - 5:30 Check in to the Hampton Inn and Suites
5614 Englewood
Lubbock, TX
806.797.9600 - James Barker
Ref. - Tulia HS Reunion
NOTE: This hotel is 1 block south of Lowe's Home
Improvement Center on west Loop 289. I will send driving directions once everyone has had a chance to critique the plans.

5:30 - 7:10 Eat, drink and mingle and Joe's Crabshack
7:10 Depart for the Cactus Theatre
7:30 - 9:00 60's/THS night at the Cactus Theatre
9:30 - ?? Mingle and visit at the Hampton. (BYOB is OK
You just cannot take it outside the hotel area).

Once these plans are confirmed, I will get a list to James Barker at the Hampton. You will need to call and confirm your reservation with them. Remember, this will be first come, first served on these rooms. If we run out, I will help the late-comers find a place close by.

Let me know your thoughts/suggestions.

Be blessed, Be happy!!

Big Dad

Charlotte, I have to say for the fortieth time how neat this website is and participating in this forum has become my drug of choice for my daily snirkle. (MH, don't start with me!) I really love reading about everyone's families. When y'all mention your parents, I visualize their faces in my mind's eye 40 years ago which would have been the last time I would have seen most of them. I remember with fondness when some of the parents would go on school trips to "try" to keep us in line. Hah! It is so good to know about them and it makes me miss my parents, who left this earth way too early. At earlier reunions, I always regret that I can't get around and learn everyone's stories and this is a great tool for that dilemma! So, keep adding to the profiles and keep the nuttiness alive on the forum! AL

Princess!

Welcome aboard this conductor-less train to who know's where!! I did'nt know what I was starting with the "name that tune" gig, but you have certainly upped the ante. It would be interesting to know how many hits Wikipedia gets tonight referencing those lyrics.

Glad you joined in. Hope you and yours are well.

Big Dad! You did good! Thanks for your hard work! I need to take some of those vitamins to get ready for that Sat. night that Lucille Ball was taking and getting tipsy...remember? Vitameatavegamin..hiccup, hiccup...

Hi, Princess, have you been to any reunions of the Hockaday School For Wayward Girls?

02/26/09 06:51 PM #130

Michael Henthorn

Okay Aliece,

It's not the 40th time it's the 45th time (but who's counting). Please enlighten us dear, how does one "snirkle"? I'm learning all these new words for conditions of the aging and some of the associated noises they invoke, but "snirkle" got under my radar.

How's your ankle?

Big Dad

Aliece Sefcik (Lowe)

Snirkle...On the Carol Burnett show, Tim Conway's character, portraying an elephant, snirkled. Type I snirkle involves putting your tongue behind your top teeth and kinda blowing out your nose but you have to crinkle it just right to make the appropriate snirkle noise. Type II snirkle involves emergency surgery at your local ENT hospital. I can't believe you did not know what a snirkle is!!!

Aliece Sefcik (Lowe)

Ankle is better! If I snirkle enough, I forget about it!

02/26/09 07:50 PM #133

Michael Henthorn

Thanks a HEAP Aliece!!
I just attempted a Type I snirkle which promptly caused me to swallow my chewing tobacco! I thought I was going to have to call 911 until a couple of neighbors who saw me flopping around in the driveway administered the Heimlich manuver and saved my life. They kept asking me what I choked on and all I could mumble was "snirkle, SNIRKLE". They backed away, wide-eyed and locked themselves in their houses. Now I may not get invited to the 4th of July block party and BBQ. Your instructions need to be more specific. Can you imagine what would have happened if I'd had a mouth full of double-bubble?

Glad to hear about your ankle.

Oops sorry, I forgot to tell you a snirkel works only if you are wearing Bob Boze Bell's Mega Bright upper dentures. They are special dentures that have a hole inserted in just the right place in order to snirkle. So sorry about your driveway accident. AL

Hey gang,

I am already getting some pushback on the Cactus Theatre show. Many feel that we are trying to cram too much into one day and night. I tend to agree. What if we moved the meal at Joe's Crabshack to 6:30 - 8:00 and just went back to the hotel to visit and catch up? Those who are not spending the night could have more time to visit. Those who want to take the bike tour would not be in such a rush to get to Lubbock. The Cactus show really needs to be everybody or nobody, but I need to know ASAP so I can cancel without financial penalty.

Let me know your thoughts or tell me to make an executive decision.

Ka Hughes (Wilfong)

Hey, BD, go ahead and make that executive decission. What makes me think that you don't really need our OK to act on your own!!! HaHaHa I do remember a lot from HS.
I don't think anyone argued with you then and I am sure they are not going to argue with you now.

Everything sounds great. I think the more time we set aside for visiting, the more people we will have attend.

Ok, now, let's get going with some "good music". Anyone have flashbacks with this one?

Has anyone figured out Princess' song? We can't let that slide........Help classmates!!

Can you believe Aliece snirkles? I'm not sure I would have divulged that AL.

Most of you have probably seen this little guy, but if I ever get the blues, I bring him up just to watch his facial expressions.

Enjoy!!

Princess,

Is it any part of the
"Alice's Restaurant" medly? Arlo Guthrie was the singer or story teller, or, am I totally off base?

Your plans sound great, Big Daddy. Save me 2 for the Cactus.
Jann, I was bit by a duck in college. Butt became so sore I had to use a donut in class to sit. Not pretty.

Okay gang,

Thanks to all of you who responded concerning the Lubbock plans. The large majority of you feel that, by the time we have breakfast, ride in the parade, have lunch and pictures at FBC, tour the school and ride scooters to Claude Crossings and back and then drive to Lubbock, we will have had a pretty full day (hell, I got tired just typing it all out!). So we are going to cancel the Cactus Theatre show. Thanks for letting me know so promptly.

Here is the new Lubbock itenerary:

Saturday July 18:
2:00 - 6:00 Check in to the Hampton Inn (west)
Be sure to reference the THS reunion
to get the $95 rate.
6:30 - 8:00 Dinner and drinks at Joe's Crabshack
(We should have plenty of room, so feel
free to invite family or other Tulians
in the area to join us).
8:30 - ???? Catch up and reconnect back at the Hampton.
We have the meeting room, the pool area and
patio area, so there should be enough room
for all of us. It would not be out of line
to bring family pics (old and current) and
any old THS memorabilia that might be of
interest. Ice and setups will be available.

If some of you wish to go out for part of the evening while you are here, just e-mail me and I can update you on what is going on in the Hub for that weekend. I know that the touring production of "Guys and Dolls" will be playing at the Wells Fargo ampitheatre. Not sure what
groups will be playing at the clubs.

I am really looking forward to spending some time with all of you!!

Thanks John, I've been trying to remember the name of that superhero from KPUR. Chicken Man and a run to the Spudnut shop that was a good hall pass.

Hello to all the '69 classmates. Thanks to those of you who are responsible for the website and planning for the reunion. Sorry that I won't be able to attend. I have the good fortune to teach in Spain during June and July.

Best wishes to all.

02/28/09 08:23 PM #147

Ka Hughes (Wilfong)

Hey, I am so glad you found us, but I am so sorry that you will not be able to make it in July. I'm sure we could all go to Spain with you!!!! We are going to have a great time. Maybe you can make the next one.

I am getting ready to post your Sr. Picture. Check in a little bit to see it. Remember the site will be down in the morning for some major upgrading done by its creators.

Keep in touch.

Charlotte Grantham (O'Daniel)

Thanks, Mike, for all the legwork getting the hotel/eating arrangements made. Sounds like the perfect place to me. I am glad we will have the meeting room. Looks like we might need a pretty large one!

So sorry about the problems with the sign-in. I don't know about that. Nothing I did---I don't think. Anyway, I hope everyone is back in touch.

Welcome aboard, Walter. Hey, keep us all posted on Spain this summer. I am sure you will have plenty time to blog all your experiences....have a great time.

Chicken Man---boy that brings back memories. He's everywhere. I was in OKC last year and KOMA has a truck that plays oldies and has a live DJ at the "Affair of the Heart" (a chick craft wonderland) at the fair grounds. I love it when I pass in that area. Great music.

Keep writing.....

O.K. you chicken lovers, here is your hero. In this one he is trying to find a costume to wear. Enjoy!!
