Thomas Albert Thompson, age 72, of Hideaway, Texas passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. He was born on Monday, August 27, 1951 in Tyler, Texas to Delbert and Regina Thompson.
Tommy graduated from John Tyler High School in 1969. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in 1975 and worked at St. Paul Hospital where he completed the Medical Technologist program. He was a proud lifetime member of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas and there married the love of his life, Sue, on Saturday, June 12, 1971. Tommy was a member of the CRMA motorcycle club, the American Society of Clinical Pathology and was a certificated recreational PADI diver. He worked for Coulter Electronics with the medical equipment sales team, then went on to Dallas Medical Center Hospital in the DRL lab for 11 years. Tommy proudly owned and operated THE Lab in Tyler, Texas since 1995, with his son, Todd, now leading his legacy. He was active in track and field club locally and in Dallas, Texas. Tommy was in the 10th World Veterans Championships in Miyazaki, Japan in 1993 and won 1st in the 200 meter dash. He enjoyed anything to do with traveling and seeing the world, especially with his adored family by his side. Tommy's favorite hobbies were water skiing, snow skiing, and of course scuba diving. He enjoyed coaching kids in baseball, football and basketball, and still assisted in coaching his grandson in his later years. Tommy loved being Papa Tom to his grandson, Trey. He will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sue Thompson; son, Todd Thompson; grandson, Trey Thompson; siblings, Julia North, and Delbert Kenneth Thompson; special friends, Johnny hills, John Moore, Glenn Sparkman, Craig and Randy Rogers; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Delbert L. and Regina W. Thompson; grandparents, Carrie Lee Thompson and Albert Thompson; and aunts and uncles, Laura Thompson, Dorothy Thompson, Roy Thompson and Henry Thompson.
A private family service took place on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Tommy's final resting place is at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery.
