David W. Cates, age 73, of Longview, Texas passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. He was born on Wednesday, June 28, 1950 in Tyler, Texas.

David graduated from John Tyler High School in 1969, then went on to the University of Texas at Tyler and received his Bachelor's and Master's degree. David retired from Delek as a master electrician, and was a proud HOA board member at Lake Devernia. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed volunteering with the special olympics for many years. He was a very talented Man, from all things electric to fixing anything you can imagine. David loved to fish, hunt, camp, and could build a mean campfire that was enjoyed by many friends. He loved to spend time with his grandkids by taking them fishing, hunting, building all things, playing chess, and teaching them everything he knows. David was a devoted Christian, Husband, Father, and Grampa. He was loved by so many people that knew him and will be dearly missed.

David is survived by his loving wife, Carleta Cates; two sons, Carl and Kyle Cates; two daughter-in-laws, Lauren Boyle and Nicole Cates; six grandchildren, Jordan Cates, Eveyln Cates, Ella Boyle-Cates, Sophia Boyle-Cates, Lane Cates, Lucia Boyle-Cates; two brothers, Dennis Cates and Dale (Cathy) Cates; and many well loved friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Flo Cates; brother, Danny Cates; mother-in-law, Edna Hathcox; and sister-in-law, Rhonda Cates.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. As requested by David, this celebration will be casual and will take place at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, 909 Reel Road, Longview, Texas 75604.
