Danny,  Thanks for the information on your last post.  I saw where Helen Smith from Edwardsport recently passed away.  This is Joe Koenig's Aunt.  Sue Ann Smith was Helen's daughter and was in the class of 71, I believe.  It said that Sue Ann had passed away.  Does anyone know when she passed and the circumstances of her death.  Just wondering.

Happy Birthday Debbie.

For the Freelandville crowd.  Mrs. Mallery sent me the following note yesterday on Facebook.  I couldn't say  I remember watching the orbit of John Glenn on TV in 4th grade.  I hope Tom Held responds because I am sure he probably does remember.

"Rich, do you remember watching John Glenn's orbital flight in the 4th grade classroom in Freelandville 50 years ago today?"

To anyone who is interested, I have posted on Youtube the video of my wedding reception from when I got remarried in 1985. The video can be found  at Youtube by searching for "The Corvettes - Bruceville Rod & Gun Club".

I am sorry the quality is not what it should be. The crowd noise drowns at the music for much of the video and lighting was not good. The shots of the band are also rather infrequent, showing Freelandville Dutchmen enjoying themselves a great part of the time. There are five songs on the 13 minute video.

Hey Tink

Just talked to Rex a while ago and he says he's doing great, he's retired from Industrial Supply, and he and Mary are enjoying semi retirement, he is working part time at Quick Kleen in Vincennes. I ( think)  a while back he told me he  bought a new Fender Jaguar, I'm going to check it out.

Grab,

Did you checkout the Corvette video on Youtube ? The quality was not to great, but still is nice to have the Corvettes on video.  It is ashame you got your dates mixed up that night and were not there. We had a hell of a time !!! Hard to believe there are not more videos that have been posted. Do you know if anyone taped  the reunion  dance in 2004 ?   I got a nice comment from Neil's wife and also heard from Bruce Stevenson. He has put several Corvette recordings on Youtube recently. Glad to hear Rex is doing well. I had heard around town that he was not.

Wow......one of the new Jaguars !  Guess he is returning to his "roots" of the early 60's ! I'm still debating if it is worth investing in a new Strat.....considering my "amatuerish" skills !

I don't get out much these days, other than a cookout at Grump's new place out at Pine Bluffs, so I am really out of touch with local happenings here in our "small village" (as Mrs. Hufnagel used to refer to it back in Jr. High !) LOL

I try to keep an eye out for you when I pass through Princeton each day.

Tom,  I enjoyed watching your video.  Thanks for posting it.  You looked pretty young in that video.

I saw the video, it's great that you have you're wedding and one of few Corvette vids for the archives. I sent you an email about getting ahold of Bruce Stevenson, had his phone # on it. He needs to talk to you.

Go ahead and get the Strat, were not young pups anymore!!

I took the day off from work today and decided to check in on the NK 70 site and to my amazement, there is a pic from way, way back.  Dick, you asked for an explanation, so trust me, there is a reason I am in the company of these two shady characters.

This is about 1977 and of course that is "Cinder City's" leading citizen Michael George Summers in the middle and my brother Bill "Fuzzy Farmer" Held on the right. The occassion was our return to Freelandville from a weekend of camping & fellowshipping at the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Championship Shoot (aka "The Black Powder Festival") at Friendship, IN. located just north of Louisville.  This festival is something akin to the Vincennes Rendevous, except with lottsa beer !!

As you can see from our apparel, "traditional pioneer dress" is the order of the day......unless you want to stand out like a first time "newbie".

The event also includes  "Traditional Indian Encampment" enthusiasts. First time i went here in 1974 with Sam Singleton, we walked out of our camping tent (located up on a hill overlooking the grounds) and to our suprise, the Indians had moved in over nights !  An entire village of Indian Tee Pees .  Everyone in Indian dress !!!!

For the party crowd that attend this annual event (of which about 70% fall into this category), there is a tavern in downtown Friendship that is a throwback to the days of old.  We secured a seat at the bar and enjoyed tunes on the jukebox from traditional artists like Bill Monroe & Bluegrass Boys, Hank Williams, Sr., & Ernest Tubb  (not your standard jukebox fare)........all the while sipping an ice cold beverage and wearing our coon-skin hats !

A goodtime was had by all.  You should consider attending sometime.

You asked for an explanation, Dick........you got it !!!!!

Dan,  I  do like my NC teams but still have a place for those IU Hoosiers.  That would be something if the Zellers would meet at the championship game.  I am working the next 4 days in late afternoon and evening.  Guess I will just have to watch the highlights.

Dick........OMG ! You are picking through the absolute worst of my old, old photos to post here !!

This was mid 1970's at Bill "Grumpy" Robbins' "party house" out on Hwy. 58 just before Judy & Joe Kirchoff's house.  Grump's parties were always the best and drew huge crowds. Can recall entire yard full of parked cars with cars parked along the side of the highway for a few hundred feet, also.  The more rowdy of Grump's  parties were two-day affairs, with some entertainment for the huge throng of people, such as the infamous "Burnout King" (a whole other story !)LOL

This particular photo was just a normal weekend gathering in Grump's living room of the regular Dutchman locals. (left to right) Randy "Rantoul" Miller, myself, Doug "Crisco" Walker, Mike "Summy Time" Summers, Rod "Little Bine" Harbin and Joe "Struckmeier/ Buzzard/ Corky" Robbins (he still answers to all three nicknames).

P.S. - Dick.....I have been getting several e-mails at NK1970 from classmates, but all say "bounceback e-mail".  Can you tell me what is wrong ?

Here is the email I received from Tara.  I am sure she would appreciate an email from anyone.

Hi! I think this site is so awesome! I found this site searching for my biological father's obituary. I know this is gonna sounds like a super weird request, but I am trying to find people who knew him. I never did, and as I get older I have more of a desire to know where I came from. His name was Phillip Rinsch. I have been in contact with his brother's wife, but it's not the same. I would really like a guest account on your page, so I post a message on the forum. Thank you for your time. Tara Franklin

Tom,  I am not sure why the emails are bouncing.  Are you trying to email members and cannot or what?  Thanks for the account of the party at Bill Robbin's house.  I am sure those were some fun times.

Tara (Daughter Of Phillip Rinsch) Franklin

Hello Everyone,

I really appreciate the chance to be a guest member on this site. My name is Tara, and Phillip Rinsch is my biological father. I never knew him, and as I get older I feel a desire to connect with who he was. I really know very little about him, and I am searching for .... well.... who he was. I would so love any personal antidotes or memories or anything at all that could give me a glimpse of the person I came from. It would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Tara

Your father was a year ahead of me in school. There were a few times we ran around together, not close friends, but friends. He had a great sense of humor in his own way, he had a unique voice, it's kinda hard to put a handle on his voice, lets put it this way, he did not get in a hurry while talking, not exactly slow but with a lot of emphasis on certain words. I know that is a terrible discription of his voice, but like I said, it's hard to describe. I'll try and come up with more later, just didn't want you to think we weren't paying attention. By the way, welcome to our forum.
