1963 NORTH SIDE HIGH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

INTRODUCTION:  The newsletter committee would like to thank classmates who have sent ideas, jokes, or other communications in for publication.  This is your newsletter, and the committee looks forward to your input. Please send  any ideas, school pictures, or questions you may have to Steve Heine  or Pat Lewton Horoho.

  • Will you help us locate classmates in which we have lost touch? Thanks for your help, we have located 8 lost classmates, but are still missing information on eight more.  Will you please look at the list below and help us locate the remaining classmates? DID YOU KNOW: 

  • Jody Hemphill Smith, our classmate and host to many of us on the Friday evening of our 50th class reunion weekend at her beautiful Castle Gallery in Fort Wayne, is the featured artist at The Venue Fine Arts in Bloomington, Indiana.  Her work will be featured in an exhibit on Friday November 1 and for the entire month of November.
  • Marty Anspach, our classmate, has playacted as Santa Claus for many Christmas parties over his working years.  He enjoyed seeing the smiles and laughter on faces as he distributed presents and acted as the jolly Santa Claus and would like to continue this role in retirement.  He is offering to serve as Santa Claus for your Christmas parties, and it is free. HAPPENINGS IN FORT WAYNE:  For many of you, our classmates who no longer live in Fort Wayne, or who have not recently visited during the holiday season, this is a busier place than it once was in our youth.  Over the course of the next few months, we hope to share with you changes that are or have occurred in our city, our newest city park, for example or the changes to downtown and the area known as The Landing.   For this newsletter, however, we want you to see how Christmas is celebrated in the Fort today with a brief mention of a few of the many events which will take place in the months ahead.

November 16, 2019- mid March - Headwaters Park Ice Skating will be open daily.  Skate rental is available.  For daily schedule of time, Visit Fort Wayne or Headwaters Park on Face Book. 

November 22 at 5:30 P.M. – Christmas on Broadway will celebrate its 15th season with the lighting of a 40-foot Colorado Spruce (35,000 lights) in front of the Shine & Hardin Building on the Broadway Plaza.  Mr. and Mrs. Claus, reindeer, and refreshments will also be available.  This event attracts thousands so go early for a parking spot in the neighborhood. November 23-January 5 - the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory will present “Christmas Connection,” their annual floral presentation with a nod to the holidays.  For more information and photos check Foellinger-Freimann Botanical.

November 27 –The Holiday Fest returns with “Night of Lights” where we join together to light up Downtown with the iconic Santa and His Reindeer, fireworks at Parkview Field, and much more. For more information and photos visit Visit Fort Wayne.

November 27-December 3 – The 35th Annual Festival of Trees returns to the Embassy Theatre.  For more information check the Embassy web page or Visit Fort Wayne .  

November 29-December 15  - The History Center will be hosting their annual “Festival of Gingerbread.”  This is always a popular event for both participants and visitors.  Various awards are given for specific ages, groups, and individual efforts.  For more information about this event, check with the Visit Fort Wayne.

Finally, on December 6, 4:00-6:00 P.M. and December 7, noon until 5:00 P.M. – Christmas in the Castle at Brookside on the campus of University of St. Francis will be featured.  Tickets are required. For more information see Christmas at Visit Fort Wayne so you don’t miss this historical home beautifully decorated by local florists and designers. 

CHRISTMAS PARTY:  On December 7, 2019,1:00 p.m., we are inviting you to celebrate Christmas with your North Side classmates. It will be held at Pine Valley Country Club located at 10900 Pine Mills Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46845.  It will be held in the lower level of the club house. It is not handicap accessible from inside the club, but there is a sidewalk leading to the lower level at the left side of the building.

During the party, there will be a “fun” Christmas exchange.   Therefore, we are asking you to bring a $10 gift to share.  Please RSVP to Steve Heine by email or phone at 260-749-8737 by November 22.

North Side Alumni News Update:  We are asking you to consider joining the NSHS Alumni Association.  It is among the largest alumni associations in the nation and does some remarkable things.  It provides many scholarships for recent graduates, features distinguished alumni, and much more.  You can join by clicking NSHS Alumni
