When we were in the 8th grade David and Jim McNut designed a "Fort " which we built in the far reaches of Franke Park. Long before there was a zoo. It took six of us two weeks to complete the project but when it was finished it was a thing of beauty. We confiscated mutiple tools from our garages and extra supplies from the kitchen and planned our big overnight camp-out. Wouldn't you know, a thunder storm with heavy rains hit us sometime after dark and a dead tree blew over just missing us but destroying our work of art. We jumped on our bikes and headed for home never to return. I revisited the site while hiking with my grandson, but alas there was no sign of our weeks of toil. Dave had a great imagination and designed a summer dream for a bunch of energetic kids. He was always kind and had a great sense of humor.
