Familiar Places

We are including pictures of the places we remember growing up on Holdrege. If you have any photos of buildings you remember back in the 50s and 60s please let us know and we will include them.

The Regal Steak House - Best fine dining in Town.

The Sunset Tower Motor Court - For more information, check out the article in the Class Lounge!

The Train Depot where many of us took our first train ride to Omaha for our Induction Physical into the service. Not a great way to enjoy your train ride, but just to experince the train ride was exciting.

The Swimming Pool was a great place to cool off in the Summer Time. Great setup with the Baby Pool, Middle Pool and the Diving Pool for the big kids!

OK, after a Saturday afternoon at the Pool, lets stop and get a Dilly Bar.  Gotta love it!

In the late 50s and early 60s, if you had 19 cents, you could stop by the Top Hat Drive Inn and get a hamburger and fries. Good place to work as a car hop during the summer. Next door was miniature golf, where you could also rent a tandom bicycle, assuming you had someone to be your back seat rider.

The Plains Motel was the roadside motel of choice for a reasonable price.

This Motel was around in the 1950's. Note they refer to Hwy 383 that as later changed to Hwy 183. I don't remember this one!

I never could determine the Time using the Sundial in the Park. But it was cool to look at.

We were just babies when this picture was taken of the Hotel Dale. Hilsabecks Sporting Goods eventually replaced the Plez Hardware store. However, not alot changed thru the years. I think I see Wayne Musils car in this photo! :)  More information about the Dale Hotel is posted in the CLASS LOUNGE, Articles to Read section.

Main Street (actually 4th Avenue) was where the action was downtown in the early 50s! Lots of things to see and places to visit.

West Avenue was another place to shop. The Hamburger Inn was located on one side and the Five & Dime on the other side.

I'll take one Greasy Dip and a Coca Cola please! Maybe I should have ordered two. I sure miss the Hamburger Inn.

Let's go across the street and check out my favorite Five & Dime.

Hey Mom, can you pick up a few extra donuts while you're at Sehnert's Bakery?

We could stop by the Sweden Creme later for a Chocolate Dip Cone, before they close.

Wish they would be open in the evenings! OK, come back Thursday night.

Better stop by Trenchards and get gas (Ethel or Regular?) in Moms car before we head back home. Only 32 cents for a gallon of gas! What a bargain.
