Lincoln Grade School was completed in 1923 to replace the East Ward Elementary/High School (built in 1890) that was destroyed by fire. East Ward included the "High School" grades for the first time. Lincoln Grade School was built on the same site as East Ward. At that same time the new Jr/Sr High School opened on Burlington Street to accomidate the "High School" Grades.
