Inez Nation (Rogers)

Hello Everyone,
It is so great to be able to communicate with each other through this e-mail. I am ready for another get together.
How about Christmas? We could all set a time and reserve a place in a restaurant or I could check with my brother and see about using our church fellowship hall. I believe the charge is $50 to rent it if we clean up. We could all bring a dish and eat and enjoy each others company. We might even come up with some entertainment. Whatever we do it is Oct. we need to start planning. What do you guys think.
Hope to see you soon.
Gary I am working on those pictures.

It is with deep sadness today that I learned of the passing of Charles McGarity's father-in-law. Though small is stature he had a heart as big as his booming voice. I know many of you may want to extend your condolences. Here is a link to his obituary: http://www.legacy.com/OnlineAthens/Obituaries.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=118299225

Our condolences to Charles and his wife and family on their loss. May God bless and comfort you all.

It was good to see you again at the reunion, Charles.

Hi Friends,

We were sorry to learn of Mr. Poss's death also. Like all the spouses who were at the reunion, Elaine is a jewel and I am so sad for her loss.

Dick and I are back from our little trip to D.C. I am not responsible in any way for any of the goings on there last week. Neither credit nor blame can I take. Now we regroup just long enough to head back down to God's country (Georgia!) on Thursday for a nephew's wedding. We will be in Greene county, but sure will be hanker'in for Oglethorpe. Our kids and grandkids are all coming in though, so it will be great fun to be all together, even though brief. Now we have to round up car seats, etc. and arrange to pick up two sets of family at the Atlanta airport on Friday several hours apart. I am "plum wore out" just thinking about it. It's a good problem to have though.

Hope everyone is well. I can't get over the fact that our reunion has come and gone. It's like some dream that I wish I could have over and over again. What fun, and I am so encouraged by everyone's response, for I know in my heart it will happen again.

Time to go. Hope each of you has a good week.

From my heart to yours,
Diane

A dose of daily wisdom - - -

There are two roads in life, the twisty one is vastly more fun!

Reputation is what you are perceived to be, character is what you are, and REAL character means doing what is right when nobody is looking.

Common sense isn't.

Most folks look intelligent.....then they say something.

Be Careful when arguing with an idiot...folks watching may get confused as to who that is.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

LEARN FROM THE MISTAKES OF OTHERS. YOU CAN'T LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO MAKE THEM ALL YOURSELF!

The Purpose Of An Open Mind---Is To Close It On Something.

Thanks for your "dose of daily wisdom" Gary. I think our whole country could use a very big dose right now.

And... hope you and Sherron have a great trip to Kansas City... and a safe one too. Bon Voyage!!!

Gary, why don't I know about Kansas City? Did I miss something? Anyway, have a great trip.

I got my weekly Oglethorpe Echo tonight. Our group picture taken on the deck of the clubhouse, as well as a wonderful write-up about our reunion was in it. Thank you Diane for such a good job!!!!

I hope that things are going good with everyone. I think of you often.

I hope you enjoyed your birthday yesterday, Diane... wherever you are in your travels. It's about time you joined the rest of us 58 year old youngsters. Just a note to say you did an EXCELLENT job writing the article on the reunion in the Oglethorpe Echo! You really painted a picture with your words. It really brought back great memories! And it is so nice to see the wonderful color photo in the Echo. When I subscibed some years back, it was all black and white. Time (and progress) marches on!

And by the way, Diane... to add to my earlier comments on the Oglethorpe Echo article... I really appreciate you remembering (by name) Ron and all of our other classmates who have passed on. They are still the Class of '68 too... in spirit.

And finally, I am still amazed that 48 of our surviving 53 graduates were present at the Reunion! Wow!!! I imagine that there were many days when we were seniors in 1968 when the attendance was not that good. I remember early in our planning process when Jim was hoping we would get 100%. We were pretty close! It speaks well of our class 40 years later don't you think?

Oglethorpe, our Alma Mater... Onward we shall go!

Connie Morgan (White)

I agree Don! What a special group of people!!!!!!

I also thank Diane for using her amazing ability with words! Certainly those "no longer with us" remain in our memories, thoughts and hearts.

Hard to believe that October is nearly half over. I hope you all have a good week. God bless.

love,
connie

Good Morning one and all. We returned from KC late last night after a WONDERFUL visit with 4 of our 5 grand kids. The moonlit flight into Athens was beautiful! Thank you Connie for the Echo article. I'll try to get it posted to the website this week. My older brother had bypass surgery last week at Crawford W. Long Hospital in Atlanta and I'm headed out the door to check on him. He is still having some (diabetic) complications but hopefully they can resolve everything before sending him home. I had been working on putting together a DVD slide show of the reunion when wouldn't you know it, hardware failure! Inez, I'll call you later this week or the first of next week to get your photos. Hope you all have a blessed week!!!

Diane, what a good birthday picture that Dick posted on his profile. What better gift could there be for a mother than to spend her birthday surrounded by her children and family??!!

Many of you may remember Coile's Food Market that was a grocery store in Crawford during our high school days. Mrs. Rachel Coile died over the week-end. Mrs. Coile was Ralph Huff's ex-mother-in law. Condolences to Ralph and to the Coile family.

Thinking of all of you often...

Diane Harris (Moore)

Good Morning!

Well, we got home yesterday from our whirlwind trip to Georgia. We drove down Thursday, made two trips to and from the airport Friday, went to a rehearsal dinner that night, went to the wedding Saturday, made two more trips to and from the airport Sunday, then left Monday afternoon to come back home. We got such a late start Mon. that we stopped in Knoxville to sleep.

Somehow on Saturday Dick managed to surprise me with a birthday cake. And Connie, yes, it was a great day. Having my kids and grandkids with me on that day never, ever happens, so it was so special. Dick Moore (that's what I call him when he aggravates me)posted that picture without me knowing. He's a rascal. Oh, and thanks for the sweet birthday messages I received! Honestly, if earthy riches were measured by the number and quality of one's friends, then I would certainly rank among the world's richest! I am so very, very, very blessed.

Now I must tackle our suitcases and find out how many socks we left in Georgia, and what I brought home that doesn't belong to me. Not to mention the car, which looks like a wild party went on in it all weekend. (I guess it sort of did.)

Oh well, enough non-news from me. On a serious note, I was sorry to learn from you, Connie, about the death of Mrs. Coile. In my mind she is still the way I remember her from so many years ago.

Now, I hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday. Gary, I hope that we will hear that Wesley is doing well. Glad you had a great trip to KC.

Love,
Diane

Diane, so glad to hear you had a good and safe trip to Georgia. Speaking of leaving things behind - as Sherron approached security check in KC, she noticed that she didn't have her watch. Little Reece had borrowed grandma's watch to see what time it was on the way to the airport. We haven't started unpacking yet so still not sure what surprises might await us. Larry is the brother that had bypass surgery. He is doing well just looks like the looser in a very bad knife fight. We spent most of yesterday at the hospital trying to figure out what he was going to do when released. He will be living with us for several weeks when released later this week. This will be quite a burden on Sherron. She has been such a trooper looking after members of my family. She looked after Aunt Fannie for the five years she was in Heritage Nursing home and made almost daily trips to Milledgeville for the brief time that my father was at the Veterans Home. Just adds to the million reasons to love her. It came to me while at OCS in Newport RI (Jan - May 1975) that I needed a help mate. I prayed that God would send me a woman that I could love and would love me. I walked into the Winterville Methodist Church on June 1, 1975 and there she was. She truly is a gift from God! Hope you all have a VERY BLESSED day!!

Welcome home to our travelers, Gary and Diane. Sounds like you both had a wonderful time. I'm happy to hear your brother is doing well, Gary. I will say a prayer that he has a speedy recovery. Sounds like you have a real jewel there in Sherron. God has blessed you my friend.

It is a beautiful Fall day here in Marietta! Here's wishing you all a great day!

Diane Harris (Moore)

Hi Everyone,
Here's wishing all of you a great October week. I just love Fall! That windstorm a few weeks ago shredded the leaves off so many of the trees up here, including the pretty maples in our yard, that I don't think the colors are as pretty here as usual, but I love it anyway. Our furnace has come on this morning for the first time this season, and we had our first light frost yesterday morning.

Here's saying a prayer for each one of you, that you and those you love are blessed with contentment and good health. Have a great week.

Love,
Diane

I was glad to get a card from Linda Landers (David's wife). In it she said they still talk about how much fun they had with everyone. She also said "It was such a pleasure to get to meet all of you. I had so much fun, I just love each of you. Please let everyone know how much I appreciate all your kindness, and I thank all of you for treating me as a friend"... They will probably be moving back to Ga. next year.

Well, to Linda and all of the spouses - Y'all were great! Everyone just seemed to fit right in and just be old friends.

I hope all are well. I continue to think of you often.

love,
connie

Greetings all!! I just picked up the pictures from Inez and noticed a theme. She did a great job of capturing couples and thought I would take a break and post some of them. All of the pictures I've received are GREAT!! I've gotten a little behind in assembling them for distribution but hope to be able to get back to that task soon. In the mean time, click on the "Couples" link to the left and enjoy!!!

Has anyone out there ever had an interesting experience getting a haircut? Well, Don, I’m glad you asked… When my barber (for over 30 years) retired a few years ago, Liz recommended that I try the Roffler Hair College here in Marietta where she goes. Students of all kinds and all ethnic backgrounds cut hair and do perms and styling there for men and women of all ages. So I tried it and liked it. They do a great job at a very reasonable price. I usually end up with someone different, male and female cutting my hair each time but I've always been happy with the results. Anyway, the last time I was in there a few weeks ago, a young fellow cut my hair and he looked a little familiar to me for some reason... a good looking guy, early thirties. We started chatting and I found out that hair styling was about his third career job. His name was Wade Carpenter and his first career was as an actor. He grew up here in Georgia. In the late 90's he was a regular on the TV show "Seventh Heaven." Do any of you remember it? It was about a pastor (Steven Collins) and his wife and their family of seven children. Wade played a character on there named Jordan that was romantically involved with two of the young girls. I think the show is still on in reruns. Anyway... Wade was an interesting fellow to chat with, and had traveled a lot and had many interesting life experiences for someone so young. He was in the music industry for a while too, playing and recording with a band. He talked and cut my hair for over an hour! I don't know how long his hair styling career will last, but he did give me a great haircut!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend! Go Dawgs!

Diane Harris (Moore)

Well,Don. Well done. What a story about your "brush" with fame. Yes, I used to love "Seventh Heaven", and now I'll have to see and figure out who this guy was who coiffed you. Hmmm. I'll give your question (any interesting hair cut stories?) some thought, and see what I come up with. Of course with me, it's more like "have I had any UNinteresting haircut stories". Anyway, both you and Liz looked great at the reunion, so you are walking billboards for the place you go to.

A wet, rainy, chilly day here in Ohio. I think Dick and I are going to see "Fireproof" tonight. We keep hearing it it very good. It will make our second movie this year that we have actually gone to a theater to see, the other being "Batman". Yes, we are raging party animals.

Thanks to both of you, Gary and Inez, for the pictures recently posted. Of course, Dick and I do look like we were fresh out of the sauna, but hey, unfortunately cameras don't lie. Seriously though, I do love this site, and it's so much fun to check in, never knowing who we may see or hear from. Getting reacquainted with everyone has been sheer joy, and I wouldn't take anything in the world for it.

Signing off for now. We'll be cheering the Dawgs on from up here, and thinking of all of you.

Love,
Diane

I have a beautiful barber that gives me very "special" and personal treatment. Sherron has cut my hair for the last 15(+) years. I told a barber once that I shouldn't be charged as much as everyone else since I didn't have as much hair. He said that was true but he then would have to charge me a "finder's fee". But Don since you started the "who I met" stories: I happened upon the set of a Benji movie when in Athens, Greece and got to watch him getting a treat. (Top that!! HA!!) I was finally able to sit down for a while last night and start going through all of the pictures (over 700). I was hoping to just dump all of the pictures I was given onto one CD. Well after considerable cutting of out of focus or non-face pictures, I still have too many for one CD and I'm waiting on Connie's. Looks like I will have to create two CD's of images. There are just too many GOOD shots. Diane, the camera loves you!! I hope you all have a great weekend.
