Born October 9, 1959 in Mansfield, he was the son of Ottis F. and Barbara Ellen (Hurst) Pence. He graduated from Madison High School in 1977. A generous, kind hearted man, Richard always put other's needs before his own. He loved visiting back at the homestead in Kentucky and learned from his Mamaw how to cook in the good southern style. Richard was musically gifted, especially when playing the organ and singing old time gospel and classic country. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns and Indians. Spending time with his dogs Della and Beau was his favorite past time.

Surviving are his sister-in-law, Brenda Pence; nephews, Curt Pence, Shawn (Trina Bloom) Pence, Jeremiah Pence, and Travis Pence; great nephew, Cam; great nieces, Amber, Julia, and Kylea; great great nephew, Braylen; four aunts; one uncle; many close cousins; long time friend Neal Evans and his family, Dee Dee, Tabitha, Travis, Hunter; and Kim's daughter Mandy Partin.
