Bruce Schneider

Bruce Schneider

Just read on Facebook that Bruce has passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Obituary follows.

It is with our deepest sorrow that we were informed of the passing of our beloved Maywood Firefighter and Former Chief Bruce Schneider, Badge 339. A man truly taken before his time.
Bruce has over forty-five (45) years of service with the Maywood Fire Department. During this time he has held the every position in the Department: Lieutenant, Captain, Rescue Engineer, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief and then becoming Chief of Department during 1983 and 1984. His leadership was influential in reshaping the Rescue program in Maywood which brought the first Jaws of Life into the Borough, saving dozens of lives from serious car accidents over the years. He is a role model for all new firefighters; always eager to share his extensive knowledge, skills and experiences in firematic activities, helping to cultivate the next generation for the Borough of Maywood.

Bruce has also served on Maywood’s Juvenile Conference Committee, which handled addressing non-serious criminal cases involving Maywood Juveniles and discussing/administering the outcome punishment if deemed necessary.
Another fact to show Bruce is a committed orientated Maywoodian is the time he has served with the Maywood Recreation Committee, helping with various programs that benefited the Maywood youth.

We have loved him in life, let us not forget him in passing

With  a  heavy  heart  i say  fairwell  to  Bruce . It was just only  last  year  that  Bruce  was the  Grand Marshalll  for  Maywood's  Fourth  of  July  Parade  and  we renewed  old  memories  of  growing  up in Maywood . We also  talked   about  how  much  life  ment  to both  of  us . What  a  joy  it  was to have  lived  and  grown  up  here  in  Maywood .It was a real  pleasure   to  see him  back  then and  to talk with  each  other . Bruce was happy  to  hear  that  I  bought   my  house  not  to  far  from  his  house and that  my son  (Peter ) made Eagle  Scout  and  was now an Assistant Scout  Master with  the  Troop and  that I was also a Leader  with  the  Troop . He  loved  life  and  said  that  he  enjoyed  just  being  a Maywoodian.

So   Bruce  I bid  you  a fond fairwell .To  Bruces  family  I  say  with  a heavy heart  I am  so  sorry  for your  loss . Bruce   was a great  man. Goodbye Bruce   until we meet  again  God  Bless you.

My deepest condolences to Bruce's family.  I haven't seen him in years, but always remember what a nice guy he was.  He definitely left us way too soon!

So sad to hear about Bruce.

Since I left Maywood after 9th grade, the Bruce I remember was the kid in the top right picture: an all-round great guy. His family lived two doors from ours when we were on Edel Avenue, and we were in various classes together throught the grades, and in extracurriculars like scouting. I think we were both in the Safety Patrol together too.

It's great to read stories of Bruce's life and to learn that he was a lifer for Maywood, the Fire Department and so much else. I hope to read more about him here.

Meanwhile, deep condolances to his family and many friends.

So sad to hear of the passing of Bruce.  When I lived in Mayiwood in the 60s, Bruce and I took the same schoolbus from Maywood to Bogota.  Bruce and I always talked while on our way to school.

I haven't seen Bruce in YEARS, but he was a good guy and we lost him too soon.

Sincerest condolences to Bruce's family;   he will be deeply missed.
