Arthur (sometimes called Art back then) was one of the smart kids when we hung out at Maywood Junior High. He and I were both science nerds, but he was good at school while I wasn't. So it was hugely important to me that he overlooked my academic deficiencies while saluting my interests and actual abilities, most of which (such as ham radio) were outside the classroom. I'm also glad, and not surprised, to read about his professional and personal achievements.
Art was one of the many people in Maywood whI lost touch with after they went to Bogota while I was exiled to an academic correctional institution (actually a seminary for Lutheran boys). But I have never forgotten his kindness and talents. May his memory be a blessing.

In our senior year, he went by Art. We'd sit next ot each other in the balcony during study halls. He and I would discretely discuss all sorts of things. Eventually our talk would turn to the political implications of them all. We'd take turns staunchly defending Republican and Democratic points of view and then swap sides and continue. We enjoyed that so much it became something we looked forward to each day. Arthur was bright, quick witted and had a great sense of humor. There wasn't a bit of malace in him. We lost touch after BHS as we went different ways. Arthur's obituary paints the portrait of the man I knew he would become. I'm saddened he no longer walks among us. Peace.

Art was one of the BHS friends I reconnected with thanks to this web site. Each year, he sent me birthday greetings and updated me on his family, travels, and consulting projects. He was always busy; I don't think the word "retirement" was in his vocabulary. He was a collector, and especially enjoyed collecting US National Parks and showing them to his grandchildren. Art was a kind and generous person. I'm so sorry to hear he is no longer among us.
