Mr. Bodkin was one of my all time favorite teachers.  I was in his Algebra II class which was very difficult.  My Mom had hired a math tutor for myself, my brother and sister.  So when taking an Algebra test one day I felt that I had done okay.  After our papers were graded & Mr. Bodkin handed them back to us, he returned mine to me at the same time as to the person next to me.  He indicated that we both had the same problems wrong and got the same grade.  He was letting us know that one of us had cheated, allowing that person a chance to fess up.  Well, that person did fess up thank goodness and I was able to keep my grade.  He was a wonderful teacher.....may he rest in peace.

Mr. Bodkin was one of my favorite teachers and had a great sense of humor. His jacket pockets were always filled with papers of all kinds: notes, reminders, test papers and more. One day he jokingly said, "I hope none of these catch fire today or else I'll be a goner".

Mr. Bodkin was a great teacher and a great person. He had an approach that immediately commanded respect.

I remember Mr. Bodkin as a really nice guy. I was in his class when Mr. Pollison announced the President had been shot [although it was the wrong President.]

Nick, I remember that.  Mr Pollison was so shook up that he said President Roosevelt had been shot.  I was in Mr Recchia's chemistry class at the time. Two great teachers, Mr Bodkin and Mr Recchia.  There is a NYC State Senator named Recchia who looks and sounds like BHS Mr. Recchia'.    I wonder if they are related.?Need to check this out.    Happy New Year to everyone.  Pat

I remember that day as well. I was in English class with Mr. Quinn when Mr. Pollison announced that President Roosevelt has just been shot. Mr. Quinn said "why would anyone shoot a dead president?" He then sent someone from our class to find out what actually happened.

I hope Mr. Bodkin will forgive me for going off topic with Nick, Pat and Al. JFK often referred to those moments in life when traumatic events cause us to remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when we learned such events have occurred. As examples of this truth JFK would site Pearl Harbor and the death of FDR. Years later, when teaching Vonnegut's Slaughter House Five, I would explain Robert Pollison's puzzling PA announcement as an actual example of a person, "coming unstuck in time".

Very interesting comments about one of the defining moments in all of our lives.  I pride myself on having a good memory and was amazed that I didn't recall Mr. Pollison's verbal slip.  I was in Mlle. McCluny's seventh-period French class when the announcement came over the loudspeaker, but in my recollection he said that "the President" had been shot.  I guess we were all a little bit in shock that day.
