Vincent Dente, an educator, councilman, and community volunteer, died Monday at his home in Hasbrouck Heights. He was 69. A music teacher in the Bogota public schools for 36 years, Mr. Dente was director of music, led the marching and elementary bands, and taught individual lessons. "He taught me the clarinet," said Bergen County Executive William "Pat" Schuber, who attended Bogota schools. "A great man and a great musician. . . . A gentle soul." After retiring from teaching nine years ago, Mr. Dente ran successfully for the Borough Council in Hasbrouck Heights. During his eight years as a councilman, he held a variety of positions. Mr. Dente was commissioner for sanitation, building, and recreation, and deputy police commissioner in Hasbrouck Heights. Earlier, he served as fire commissioner and finance commissioner. He was on the Southwest Community Development Committee and was the senior citizens ombudsman. Mr. Dente worked as a part-time real estate agent for the Neil Parrott Agency in Hasbrouck Heights for 39 years. Mr. Dente was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4591, Hasbrou ck Heights, and the Disabled American Veterans. A 1949 graduate of Montclair State College, Mr. Dente received a master's degree from Columbia University in 1951. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 16 in Newark. He was a parishioner of Corpus Christi R.C. Church and a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, both in Hasbrouck Heights. He was a former president of the Hasbrouck Heights bowling league and a member of the Wood-Ridge Golf Club and First Monday of the Month Club, Wood-Ridge.
