I remember playing a lot of basketball in Daves driveway, but my memory says it was in Roselawn that we played. Dave and I joined a health club in Swifton in our senior year pumping iron and trying to out do each other in dead lifts ,curls and other weight related competitions. After graduation we drifted. It was good to see that Dave was a Rotarian, we were members of the same association, he in Fairfield , me in Marquette. RIP Dave , you were one of the good ones.
Barry was another Hartwellian that went from k to 12 together. Always up beat and up front. As has been noted, he was an amazing cross country runner. I remember being on the practice field in the fall, and here would come Gerry Saxon and Barry. Gerry loping along at a pretty good pace and Barry with much shorter strides running side by side not losing and inch. Mutt and Jeff we used to call them. My adled brain could never quite understand why people ran for fun. My frame of reference being running around the dusty rock strewn practice field while the coaches figured out what we were going to do next.
Barry was a life long friend and we would seek each other out at reunions and always sat together when we could. We grew uo together playing little league base ball, and pick up basketball at Hartwell park for lots of years. I was sorry to miss the last reunion, and my friend Tom Reiber came back and passed on comments from Barry. As I remember it had to do with my being a wimp to give in to food poisoning rather than seeing old friends. But that was Barry, giving you shot with tounge in cheek. RIP my friend I will miss you as I miss to damn many of us that have crossed over.
Rich was one of the good ones. Aways had a smile on his face always looking for fun and finding humor when it was to be found, He was a good b-ball player. Started form the Bulldogs his Jr and Sr years,As I remember he made the Enquirer Sports page on a special they did about good luck habits. If you remember Dick would aleays kneel down and retie his shoe laces even if they were not loose.Lost contact with Rich after graduation. He recently reached out to re-establish contact but my tardiness in responding has cost me that chance. RIP Rich ,
Chico was areally good guy, brought some of his California dash to us Bulldogs. Good ball player too. As I remember he came in our sophmore year and he fit right in, as if he had been with us since the 7th grade. I do remeber his Dad announced the TV games for the Reds and had a red Ford convertible, that George got to drive on weekends and when his Dad was on the road. It was a flashy car with lots of V8 horse power One of Chico's favorite things do to when he had the car was find other cars to drag race with on Wright Highway, now I75. Paddock Road to Lockland and then reverse back to Paddock road. This was one of George's California habits he brought with him. Not that we didn't have pick up drag races , but not the way he did it. I do remember his getting grounded by his Dad when in one of his Races at a pretty high speed was going from 2nd to 3rd gear and he missed putting the tranny into reverse at about 60mph. Needless to say that didn't turn out well. Can't remeber how long he was without wheels, But we double dated for several week ends. George was a fun guy and an easy friend. RIP Chico, we have lost a good man..
Tom was my oldest friend. we met in 1947 in Mrs.Harris'first grade class. We went through Hartwell, Woodward, Universitry of Cincinnati, both joining Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, buying Houses [unbeknownest to each other] 4 doors apart. Our kids grew up with each other and we had 70 plus years of friendship. Spending many years, after retirement, together in our time shares in Cocoa Beach Fla. In the same resort community. There is a hole in my heart for Tom's abscence. He fought a good fight but had too many battles at one time to overcome them. He is in a better place and I hope to see him when my time is up.

R I P Bill. Haven't seen Bill since our wedding days. Bill lived in Hartwell(Valley Dale) and we along with Dick Brown, David DeBoard, and Bob Wiggelsworth played a heck of a lot of Basketball on the courts at Hartwell Park. I remember one of Bills hijincks predriving days when he and Dick sneaked his fathers car out of the driveway and preceded to cruise the Hamburger drive ins where the older guys would hang out. Needless to say thay got caught and I remember Bills Dad sayting he wouldn't drive till he was 21. At 17 he got a snazzy red and white Ford convertable. I remember trying out for the Baseball team my senior year and couldn't hit Bills curve ball in batting practice.. So much for my career in Baseball. Go in peace Bill, one of the ggod people in this world.
I remember Jim well as a member of choir and ensamble, particularly our senior year. Lots of fun anad laughs. Jim had a great sense of humor and found the best in some not so good situations. I can believe that he would be a great minister as well as father and grandfather. Rest In Peace Jim.
So sorry to hear about Larry passing. Moose was a good friend, a good footballer and basketball player. A lot of what was accomplished on the gridiron was due to Moose blocking on the right side and Steve Clause (RIP Steve) blocking on the left. At the last reunion Moose told me the story about being raised in Pitts as a youngster prior to coming to Cincy, which is why he returned there after the service. He and Jim Braunstein(RIP JIM) enlisted together and Moose said that after they arrived at basic training he never saw Jim again and still felt bad about that when we were talking. I know he had really bad diabetes and had to leave the reunion due to a reaction of some kind. RIP Moose you were a good friend and had my back on the football field.
