Obituary

Mrs. Jane Scoggins, age 78, a lifelong resident of Porterdale, Georgia passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021.  She was born October 28, 1942 to Plinnie and Eva Mae Bowen who have preceded her in death.  Mrs. Scoggins was a graduate of Newton County High School.  She was the transportation payments clerk for the past 23 years at BD, formally known as CR Bard, where she was very beloved.

Mrs. Scoggins enjoyed spending time and being with all of her family, she loved the beach and greatly enjoyed visiting Jekyll Island with her family. She also enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, praying with her great grandchildren, working with the jail ministry, attending church at The Potter’s House, where she was a longtime member. Mrs. Scoggins was an avid traveler, but her favorite place to visit was Jerusalem. Mrs. Scoggins has been preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bill Scoggins, her sister Nina Burnham, her brothers Roy Bowen and Troy Bowen.

Mrs. Scoggins is survived by her daughters Angie (Tim) Walden of Covington and Katie (Tim) Cannon of Monticello. Her grandchildren Timothy (Kimberly) Walden, Jessica (Chris) Bowles, Anastasia Cannon, Shae Cannon, and her great grandchildren Samuel Bowles, Kayden Walden, Jaxon Walden, Gracelynn Walden, and her sister Jean Garner, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service for Mrs. Scoggins will be Monday, February 1, 2021 at 3 pm at Lawnwood Memorial Park with Reverend Tim Walden and Reverend Ricky Bradford officiating.  Visitation will be held Sunday, January 31, 2021 from 2 pm to 4 pm at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home 2157 East Street SE Covington, Ga 30014.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in Mrs. Scoggins’s name to The Potter’s House, 1120 Crowell Rd. N, Covington, GA 30014.

Due to the COVID 19/Coronavirus Pandemic all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requirements will be followed.  There is a limit of 50 people at any large gathering, social distancing must be recognized, the use of mask is encouraged, and most importantly if you feel sick or have any symptoms of COVID 19 you will not be allowed to attend the service.  Please be respectful of the family during this difficult time and follow the requirements of the CDC.
