Married late in life to a wonderful man with two grown children. Went to college late in life - had my junior year abroad in my 40's studying English literature in London. Left a technical field to get a teaching credential and taught elementary ed. for 18 years. Retired and am presently singing in choirs, birding, giving a chigung class at a women's rehabilitation center, and tutoring writing at a local junior high school. It has been difficult to find the balance that the deep engagement with students and their families provided in my teaching career. Mostly I wasn't prepared for the sense of loss I would feel. I was so exhausted I thought I would feel only elation. However, you hack around long enough and you pretty much figure it out.
