Jimmy,

I emailed Dan to find out where he was this afternoon! I sent it to his school email so he may be retired and not checking it. Thanks for the phone number! (The number on the class roster didn't work.)

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!

Dick

I was thinking the same, Jimmy. After everyone has had a chance to respone to the invitation, I would like to call or send a card.

I agree with Janie. Let's plan on dividing up the non-responders at the June meeting and assigning responsibilities for contacting them. I really would like to see EVERYONE at the reunion. It really has been 40 years since I've seen most of our classmates. I'll have a list of who has signed on to our reunion site. Ray should have a list of responders from the mailing (which I've got to do). If you can't be at the meeting and would like to help call, just post a response here and we'll see that you are included. I look forward to a most productive meeting.

Gary,
Count me in. I'll do my best to help with the calling and/or writing. And since Dick isn't here to say otherwise, I'll volunteer him too. So, if anyone is reading this out there who has not yet signed up for the reunion, "Don't make me have to call you!"
Love to you all,
Diane

I am having a blast reading everyone's responses and chatter. Who would have thought it, that I was worrying about my flab, wrinkles, and whatever else is not in place since I was younger. I am still picturing everyone as they were in school - gorgeous young ladies and handsome hunks.
I have already prebooked my flight and will, if God willing, be there with bells on - well maybe not bells. Love you all.

This weekend I watched with some amusement a commercial for Enablex - a treatment for overactive bladder. These water filled balloons, obviously representing bladders, are gathering for their high school reunion. Like I said, with some amusement until I realized that the overactive bladders were from the Class of 1968! Now, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Here's a link to the commercial in case you've missed it: http://www.enablex.com/info/tools/toolsprivate/watch_tv_commercial.jsp
I guess my response to the question, "Will you be at reunion?", should be ..... "Depends"!
Have a great week and special welcome to Susan!!! Everyone say hello!!! HELLO SUSAN!!

Connie Morgan (White)

hello Susan. Good to hear from you!

I haven't seen the commercial Gary, but it sounds hilarious.

I ran into Janet Whitlow today. She said she had gotton a letter about the reunion, but that she was not in our class. She finished in 1969 --- so you can mark her off of the list.

I called to see if we could go down to look at the Clubhouse on the 22nd., but they said it is being rented out that day. Maybe another time.

I hope that all of you who can will be here on Sunday afternoon, June 22 at 2 p.m.. It's been more than a month and I'm missing y'all.

love,
connie

Here I am in Colorado again, with my newest grandson, and I still have to break away from babyholding to check this site. Susan Peterman, I can't believe it! How great to read your post, and to know that you are now a Harris. Maybe you, Janie Etheridge Harris, and I can establish kinship. Donald Chandler and I already have. Can't wait to catch up.

Gary, I haven't seen the commercial of which you spoke, but I will check it out. I will maintain my dignity and not speak of my bladder, but let's just say that I dread all the hearty laughter that is bound to occur the weekend of Sept. 12-13.

Love again to all y'all.

Diane

Hello again...to Cousin Diane and all other OCHS classmates. Gary has invited me to take a "Sunday afternoon ride" from Marietta to Connie's House for the June 22nd meeting and I received a very gracious e-mail from Connie giving me directions. It sounds like all of you are having entirely too much fun at those planning sessions. It sure is tempting! And this website has become very addicting to me too. It is such a treat to be back in touch with all of you again. I only spent my last two years of grade school at OCHS...but they were the best!

Blessings to all,

Don

By the way...Connie told me she is right around the corner from the traffic light in Crawford (the only one in Oglethorpe County) which reminds me of a story. One day after school I was driving way too fast coming into Crawford in an old '59 Chevy (with the wings on back). The traffic light suddenly changed to red and I had to slam on brakes. With my tires squealing and rubber burning, I came to a stop right under the light. I sat there completely embarrassed hoping no one saw me when I looked in my rear view mirror to see the driver in the car directly behind me was none other than Mr. Gafford...shaking his finger at me. Oh well.

I hate that Janet (Whitlow) won't be attending. We had a lot of good times on the bus. I was always nice to her, now Ross on the other hand ..... I hope she understands that the invitation was to all who were ever a part of the Class of '68, whether they graduated in '68 or not. We may have to give her an unsolicited call to encourage her attendance. I'll even promise not to pick on her. I'm going to leave her on the site for now. Connie, maybe we could crash the function at the Clubhouse on the 22nd. I wonder if they would notice us? Congratulations to Dick and Diane on the latest addition. Nothing is sweeter than a newborn baby! Here's your Funny for the day. Do you know why there are no Wal-Marts in Iraq? Because they are all Targets. Look forward to seeing most on the 22nd and everyone in September.

Hello Donald, I remember your old Chevy. I can see you
guys driving into the school parking lot as if it were
yesterday. See you soon.

Hi Jim. I didn't think anyone but me remembered that old '59 Chevy. I have fond memories of it but those "wings" on the back were definitely not for flying. Looks like you're doing well with that Insurance Agency...and a nice family too. Congratulations! Hope to see ya soon.

Thanks Donald, if you remember I had a 1957 Ford. David
Landers had a 59 Chevy, and Owens, he had what ever he purchased that week. It could be anything as long as it cost less than $100.00, remember? I'd dearly love to have that old 57 today.

I know what you mean, Jim. If we had only known then what we know now. I was really sad to hear that Charles is no longer with us. He was a good one! Remember "The Only Ones"? I still have one of their business cards (Jimmy Tiller, Lead; Pete McGarity, organ; Tommy Adkins, drums; Charles Owens, Vocalist; and John Ethridge, rhythym).

I have enjoyed reading the recent posts about those cars that some of you guys had. I was envious of anyone who was able to drive a car to school, and I especially remember thinking how cool it was to be able to leave school and go down to the Minute Serve for a coke or something. My pal Nancy was able to do that lots as I recall.

Also, feeling a bit nostalgic as I do right now, I must give thanks to the parents of some of my best friends. Had it not been for Connie's sweetheart parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan, I would never have been able to even be a cheerleader. They allowed me to stay at their house every Tuesday that there was a basketball game, plus many Friday nights. Because I didn't have a car, my mama would come pick me up from their house. I loved my great friends, but their parents come in a close second.

God bless all you who are dads this day. It's a tough, yet most gratifying privilege to be a parent, and I pat you all on the back. My son is in Iraq today and has yet to see his 4 week old son. Yet, what a great time of technology we live in that affords us email, and the ability to send photos, and sometimes even Skype.

Here's to the Dads. The ones we were blessed to have, and the ones many of you have become.

Love,
Diane

On this Father's Day evening, I add my Happy Father's Day wishes to all men who have cared for and influenced a child..... and gratefulness for the memories of our dear fathers who are no longer here.

Congratulations Diane and Dick on the birth of your beautiful grandchild! I hope his dad is soon home safely and holding him.
Thanks Diane for your sweet words about my parents. They dearly loved my friends and their families and we often shared memories of those OCHS days.

I have always been thankful to have had the opportunity to go to a "smaller" high school where we could all know each other. We were blessed to have friends and "extended families".

It's been fun reading all the messages and about the guy's cars in high school. I never had a car - so I rode Mr. Boyd Andrew's bus. On the last day of school every year, he would stop at Mr. Boots Hurt's drug store and come out with an ice cream (I think it was a popsicle) for everyone. What a sacrifice that must have been for him, cause there was a bus-load of us.

Remember - there will be a reunion planning meeting this Sunday, June 22 at 2 p.m. here in Crawford. Call 706-743-5212 if you need directions. Please come if you can --- we are having so much fun.

Love y'all and am hoping to see you soon.

it's me again...

I just read Danny Gabriel's profile. I never knew about his and Dennis Helmreich's brush with the law! I look forward to hearing "the rest of the story"

Connie - I have to add to your comment on Boyd Andrews. I knew him very well. He was a fine man with a wonderful family (wife Lena and son Randall). In the summer of 1968, I worked for Boyd to make some extra bucks for college - cutting, raking, baling and hauling hay. It was very hard work but I was in much better shape then than I am now. I drove a tractor all summer, dreaming of a better way to make a living. But Boyd and his family were class people. I ate many, many meals with their family that memorable summer right out of high school. God bless all the bus drivers, teachers, administrators and school workers who helped us get an education!

Gary, I love the page of teachers. You are right, they were very special people. I wish I had gotton in touch with them when I got older to let them know how much I appreciate them....

06/17/08 10:51 PM #56

Diane Harris (Moore)

Gary, thank you so much for your thoughtfulness in remembering our teachers. You are so correct. Dick has often said that he knew he had good teachers at OCHS when he went to UGA and felt as prepared as the kids who had come from the really big city schools. When I saw the pictures that you posted of our teachers, I was reminded fondly of them all. Mrs. Crenshaw was one I loved too, along with so many others. Like so many people that have affected our lives, we don't realize what they meant to us until it is too late to say "thank you". The best way we can do that is to pass along their legacies.

Thanks again for all you are doing to keep this site so special, and such a joy to visit. I know I can't live in the past, nor do I want to, but I am looking very forward to visiting it again for a few days in September.

God bless you, one and all.

Hi Everybody,
Sorry I've been so tardy with my response to this wonderful web site, but my grandchildren (18 month old MAX, in Montgomery and 20 month old CAROLINE, in Woodstock), have needed Nana and Pop time quite a bit lately. Even the price of gas can't keep us away from them.

Gary you've done an awesome job with this site, although that's not really surprising. It's great to read everyone's responses. It sounds like most of us are holding on pretty well for our advanced age. I especially love reading Diane's responses. I can still hear her southern drawl--even in her writing. I'm going to go for now and work on writing some information to include in my profile. See you guys later. I am so excited about our reunion and thank those of you who are planning a wonderful weekend. So long for now.
