I too remember having Madame Peneau as my French teacher.  I started 1st grade at PAS and continued at PAHS through my sophomore year, 1967, when many of our families were transferred to Stuttgart Germany.

My French teachers were Mme Lunt ('64), Mr Baudoin (sp?) ('65), Mme (actually I think she went be Mlle) Ellenberg ('66). All three were excellent.

I was at PAHS for my junior and senior years, 1963-65.  I was fluent in Spanish after four years of classes in suburban Chicago but wanted to learn French since we were living in France.  Mlle. Hérault taught French I my junior year, and she was excellent -- very diligent, serious, and always very kind to me.  She cared about her students and wrote a thoughtful tribute in my yearbook.  I think she was from the south of France.  I have always been very grateful to her for getting me started on the beauties (and maddening eccentricities!) of French language and culture, and in fact I majored in French in college and still read a lot of French in books and on Facebook.  Mlle. Ellenburg taught French II, and she was superb in continuing Mlle. Hérault's hard work.  Someone posted on here a few years ago a lenghty and comprehensive tribute to Mlle. Ellenburg.  Mlle. Ellenburg was indeed from South Carolina.  The snapshot of the yearbook page a few posts above this one also shows another outstanding PAHS teacher -- Mr. Hull, who was a great introduction to Shakespeare in my senior year and always ended his discussions asking for "questions, comments, criticisms, corrections", as I recall!

Madame Peneau was our 7th and 8th grade French teacher.  Some in our  class unfortunately gave her a hard time. Saw her in tears once.  I felt bad for her.  But she was am old fashioned strict teacher but that fine as far as I was concerned.  Et je parle toujours bien le Francais.

My French teacher was Mlle Yvonne Taranger, later Mme Yvonne Lunt.  I believe I remember that she married an RAF pilot, breaking the hearts of many of us teenage boys.

Hank, my condolences on losing your younger brother. I lost my older sister Jayne to Parkinson's three years ago. She dropped out of Mary Washington to come to Paris with the family in 1960 and loved every minute of it. She never regretted that choice and even joined me for a class reunion in Washington DC, 25th I think. Scary to be past 50 now.

It is with a very heavy heart that I post the passing of my dear friend Janet Geary Baker, PAHS 62, on August 10, 2026.  Her obituary may be viewed on Facebook and also Legacy.Com.  She maybe listed as Janet Millard Baker on these sites.  I encourage everyone who knew this special lady to please sign the guestbook at Legacy.Com and write a note.  There is no formal funeral and I know her children would love to hear from friends of their Mom.  Janet will always hold a special place in my heart as she was part of one of the best times in my life.  I pray that she is finally resting in peace and has a wonderful reunion with all our other PAHS that have passed.💔🙏

The list of friends is long and the losses are mounting as we age.  BUT the good news is that we are left with not just friendships for life, but brothers and sisters that we have shared our entire lives with.  The first kiss we shared, learning to dance, hugging each other, litterly sharing our lives is so important and will forever be cherished by all of us, whether still here or passed on.  That happiness will never be replaced or forgotten.  Thanks to each of my friends for being there.
