Professional Musician/Vocalist. I think I was born too soon, the 80s were such a funky crazy time. The professional music business, beyond playing clubs, had too much of a twist to it, demanded things I wasn't willing to do. So I stopped and thought that wasn't the reason I wanted to sing. So I bowed out for a while, moved to Cleveland, played in bands here and have been playing music, doing commercials, participating in private enterprise recording, events, Indians' games (anthem), all kinds of things. Even sang jazz for 10 years. So I'm still active in music.

My business is Averill & Associates Creative Lab, LLC, providing graphic design and production services, business to business mostly. I make all the graphics and associated pieces for the alumni association as well. I am President of our alumni association, VP for Cleveland Digital Publishers Users Group (CDPUG), webmaster for the Woods of Strongsville HOA. So I'm pretty busy these days, as I am preparing for the "off ramp" into retirement.

I'm happy in personal life, having fun with grandkids, keeping up with our house (moved in 2016) inside and out, socializing, being buddies with neighbors, it's all good.

My father passing away Freshman year. Someone getting physically hurt or worse.

That's really hard. To pick one, I'd say Forever Young, Father and Son, The Circle Game, Everything, More than a Feeling, OMG I could go on and on.

Donna Averill, my mom, passed away in February of 2002. She worked for Mr. King at CHS 1972 into 1973. She was the light for me, my sister and many of my classmates and friends who knew her and spent time with her. She still lives in my sister and I --- I swear I hear her all the time.

One of the best things I ever did was help to put the fire under Crestwoodstock and the Crestwood High School Alumni Association. The rewards are ongoing and I don't think I'm the only one to testify to this. The Glenn Owen Helka Scholarship Fund is our main focus, and it is a pleasure to read the essays and select the scholarship recipient every year. Now we're into digitizing ALL CHS yearbooks!
