I am saddened to hear about Lenny. I was hoping to see him at the 50th reunion since I had not seen him since our graduation from MJHS. Lenny took me out a couple times when we were freshmen, a perfect gentlemen. Our parents knew each other from Bogota High School. Rest in Peace Len.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Len’s passing on the Bogota High School website.  Len had been a friend of mine going back to the days of Maywood Elementary School.  We hung out together as the years went by and we grew up and attended BHS.  Len was always a go-getter and willing to do whatever work he had to do—whether it be difficult manual labor or studying--to make it through school and get his engineering degree.

As we got older, we used to double date on occasion.  In fact we go back so far, my wife Carol and I used to double with Lenny and Joey.  We had great trips together to the Jersey shore or Jones Beach on Long Island.  Body surfing was a shared passion at the beach.  As we got older and I was home for college vacations, we took many trips to NYC with our good buddy Bill Wehmann to enjoy various libations unavailable in Jersey to young men under 21.  Although I ran with the big dogs, they both outweighed me by about 50 pounds and I could not keep up, and invariably would wind up being the sleepy passenger in the back seat.  I was looking forward to seeing Len again at our 50th high school reunion, but must deal with the reality today.  I’ll miss you, Len.

I am saddened to hear of Len's passing.  I got to know Len more after high school as we both would car pool from Maywood to Newark College of Engineering together together.  Our talks in the car developed our friendship and allowed me to see the strong, intellegent person he was. Rest in Peace Len.

I was very saddened by the passing of Len Henkel.  Len was a really good person and a great friend.  I first knew him from church as we were both alter boys at Queen of Peace.  We had a great time when we served together, especially when we were assisting Father Cook who was very short in stature.  As we were standing at either side of Father Cook we would turn our heads and look squarely at each other and grin because we could not even see the top of the priest's head he was so short -what a hoot.  Some people thought we were his body guards rather than his alter boys.  It was a story Len even passed on to his kids.  Later we used to hang out, play some Friday night tag football at a side lighted area of a factory down by route 17 and do other crazy things.  Will really miss him, RIP my friend.

Only knew Lenny in school but he came across as a nice easy going guy. May he rest in peace.
