HOFFMAN David, 61, of Fair Lawn, NJ passed away March 1st at home after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Maywood, NJ, David lived in Fair Lawn for 25 years.A graduate of Bogota High School and Rutgers College, David's distinguished law career began as an honor graduate of Brooklyn Law School in 1972 and post graduate studies at NYU Law School. Following law school, David accepted his first position as law clerk to Judge Sherwin Lester. Subsequently, Judge Lester was appointed Bergen County Prosecutor. Judge Lester asked David to join him as assistant prosecutor in his new office. David prosecuted many cases, most notably the trial of James MacKerer, who was convicted of first degree murder in the death of his business partner. Eventually, David became the head of the Pre-Trial Intervention Division and then Chief of the Grand Jury Section. He was also the former municipal prosecutor of the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department, in Alpine NJ. In 1977 David started his own private law practice out of Cresskill, NJ with Mr. Thomas G. Loman.David was married for 37 years to his college sweetheart, Paulyn (Goldstein), whom he met in 1968 at David's ZBT fraternity house on the campus of Rutgers College. Son of the late Stanley and Sophie Hoffman and brother of the late Judy Hoffman Lopata, David was the loving and proud father of his sons Benjamin Hoffman & Mark Hoffman, as well as Ben's fiancée Brenda Mol of North Haledon. David also leaves behind his two faithful and adoring companions, Pippy and Rocky.David was an avid sports fan and truly loved attending his two sons's sporting events in high school and college. David loved golf, summer vacations on the shores of Long Beach Island NJ, and cruise vacations with his wife and close friends. But, the law was David's true passion.A former member of Congregation B'nai Israel, David was a kind, devoted, and generous man. David was a great father and friend to all who knew him…he will be greatly missed. His family would like to express their deepest thanks to the Oncology Group at Englewood Hospital. Dr. Jill Morrison, her colleagues, and her entire staff, including the compassionate team of dedicated nurses and aides at the hospital, infusion center, and hospice unit all are truly and deeply appreciated for their time and efforts.Funeral Service: Wednesday March 4th, 11:30 am at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel (www.shoemschapel.com) located at Rt. 4 East in Paramus, NJ.
